Average, average, no complaints but no big shakes either. Went in to the Halifax bank, was seen within 5 mins although was reminded 3 times i should have made an appointment, i was supposed to feel guilty i think but didnt!!! After all i was giving them money and encouraging my daughter to save.
I was given no infomation about the intrest and the account, so was interested to read the above reviews re amount you can save. As it is only a pocket money and just a starter account i will cross that bridge when i come to it.

I find the Halifax Childrens Savings Account really straight forward but was not told that the maximum was £5,000.00. I wanted one account for my baby until he gets older. Soon I will have to change the account as he will have maximum money in.

My experience with Halifax Buildings Society has always been good, therefore it was a natural choice when finding a savings account for my child. This was further encouraged by good financial reviews of childrens savings accounts. The interest rate was quite high at 5.05% and the Save4 it card (which accesses the coin bank) for my child is excellent in making a child understand that money just doesn't come out of
'a hole in the wall' and that it has to be saved.
Although, I do worry at times that it may encourage the use of a card and present the danger of developing into a strong dependancy on credit cards.
My only real problem is not with the savings account itself but the actual welcome into the building society itself. If I had not been with this building society for a long time I probably would not of hung around. Start to acknowledge customers who walk through the door Halifax and you'll probably be successfull in attaining over
2 generations of savers.

I agree - children should be encouraged to save in a traditional fun way. Unfortunately, the do gooders in this world have decided that the saying "piggy bank" is offensive to Muslims. How very, very sad. What's more to the point, NatWest the originator of the 'Piggies' have condoned these views. It is actions such as these that stir up racial prejudice.

Disappointed in the service I received from Halifax. Initial enquiry to open two childrens savings accounts was made prior to the Easter. Took 10 days for appropriate paperwork to be sent out. As I was ill I was not able to get to a local branch to verify identification so Halifax 'closed' the account as no funds had been paid in, when in fact the account had not be fully opened in the first place. Halifax do not have a policy whereby they will contact you within a given period to inform you that your account 'may be closed' if no funds are credited to the account. Their policy is just to close the account. Disappointed with their customer service. Local branch had little information on childrens savings accounts, kept waiting while a member of staff ran around trying to find information.
