See it is now closed but was on this site for many many years from about mid 90s to 2015 with profile visible or not depending on status. This is a great, little site. I have been a member for a few years now and have made lots of friends. At one time their were frequent meet ups and I certainly made life long friends with many. The forums are lovely. althoiugh you will occasionally have a troll come along to try to ruin it, with multiple profiles, all giving the same style of long winded comment. It is however very easy to block them, so that you do not see their postings. Other than that it has been great fun. It is also an extremely easy site to navigate and everything very straightforward. And the best thing of all is that this is a free site. Wpould definitely not hesitate to recommend it. Do give it a go.

I signed up to Midsummer's Eve one Friday afternoon. I wrote my profile and uploaded three photos. They weren't made visible as they were 'being reviewed' but the site said this usually takes 2 hours. Saturday afternoon and they are still 'under review'. I message customer services who say they will get back to me rapidly in their automated reply. Sunday, I decide to take the risk of sending messages without a profile pic. I explain in the text that my photos are 'under review'. I search within 30 miles of my address and in the end send out conversation starters to nearly 30 women. Monday late evening - my photos are still 'under review', no reply from customer services and not a single woman has opened any of my messages. Is this dating site real? Clearly there is nobody reviewing photos, nobody answering customer messages and the profiles of other users appear to be dormant. Midsummer's Eve has been a waste of time. I will try elsewhere.

I find it difficult to write an objective review on Midsummers Eve. I was a non paying member of it for over a year, met the love of my life on it, find most of its users very pleasent - and some very intelligent. Yet I have taken the decision not to have any further dealings with it. Despite many of its members being on benefits, probably for very genuine and good reasons, there are frequent threads chastising 'benefit scroungers'. Right wing views seems to dominate. Anyone on the left expressing thoughtful views is quickly shot down and seems to disappear to some sort of cyber golag. My personal difficulties with the site centered on the number of smutty threads comming from a few readily identifiable individuals. I am not a prude,have no strong religious belifes and am not a 'family values' crusader, but I found them quite offensive, distasteful, and something that should not have been allowed on its open forum (MSE has a number of 'closed' forums where this sort of filth could have been housed) - and posted my views on the site in no uncertain terms, critical both of the lowlife posters and MSE admin for not exercing greater responsibility. Judging from the expressions of support I got from many members, I was not alone in my opinions. Nevertheless, after about a day of being on the board, my messages were removed and I received two emails from the sites admin informing me that this was because they were 'unfriendly'and advising me to read their rules or risk lossing posting rights. I have not done done so - but it would seem that there is no rule against posting degrading and offesive smut - so far as I am aware the thread is still there. Why? Money? I did not pay for MSE services. I suspect the smut writers did. Cannot upset the paying members can we? Since I am not prepared to heed admins advice,I have decided to sling my hook.

Been with this site almost since it's inception and am still with it so perhaps that speaks for itself. At first I didn't use it a lot but over the last 6-8 years have used it a great deal. Predominantly friendly people, by far the friendliest site I have come across, although as other reviewers have said there are trolls and troublemakers as with any site on the internet. Yes there are cliques and over the years I have seen troublemakers come and go. Some leave voluntarily, others are 'helped off' by admin, ususlly due to nastines and others marry/partner up and leave. Some of these I can honestly say I am glad to see the back of. If you are looking for dating, believe me, plenty goes on in the background but sensible ones keep it to themselves as there will always be some jealous enough to try to make things difficult, cast aspersions or attempt to break the friendship. However, I stay for the friendship and the meets. Have travelled all over to different meets and met so many nice people and if this is what you are looking for then I urge you to join and go to the meets. Ignore the fora if you don't like the content. Everything is what YOU make it. Good luck!

yes "dull & drab" thats how this so called dating site is now percieved to have become.thats been put up by a member on a thread."So" how has it become like that.simple answer is admin and their cronies have simply just banned so many colourfull character's out.now its their own fault.and their own doing.haha i say.what goes round comes round.the site is a total scam.a bucket shop dating site.now they are left with all the long term members.anyone new is just trolled out.if you think i am telling porkies go look off line at the "DULL & DRAB" thread in the common room.it will tell you all you ever want to know about this so called dating site.not pleasent reading for the admin of this site.but very true.

A friend of mine recommended 'Midsummer's eve' as one site that allows you to browse lists and even comunicate with others before paying out any subs. I though this sounded great as I have tried other sites and wasted my time filling out pages and pages of profile sheets and personal info only to discover that I could not see anyone who had looked at my profile until I forked out. ( Those sites then bombard you with emails telling you that loads of people have looked, but to find out, you have to pay a fortune. Another scam.) I looked at Midsummer and filled in my profile and 'hey presto', I was away and really thought " This is the one thats going to find me someone special" after years on my own. Within a short time I found a few ladies who had similar thoughts and desires to myself and so I started to email them. One lady, I thought , was perfect and so I sent her a lovely email or two and sat back hoping she would reply soon. While I was quite excited I decided to pay my subs so I could see larger pictures and access other areas of the site. To my HUGE disappointment, once I looked at her profile pictures,IT WAS ONLY THEN that I discovered that in fact she has been on the site for 4 years and that her profile info was probably 4 years out of date. It felt like I had been dumped before I had even communicated with anyone. Great. Another scam. I only paid my subs to see the bigger pictures and now feel like I have been ripped off. Can I have my money back please? Had I known that most of the postings have been on for years, then I would,nt have bothered to look at those and would have selected more recent postings and not wasted my time creating nice , funny, inviting emails to these ladies. I'm quite a shy and sensitive person and its taken me a lot of courage to do this. Now I am feeling embarrassed. If only, when one searches for the 'latest listings' , we could actually see the 'latest current listings' and not 4 year old listings that are out of date. One's that might actually be in the market for dating today. Not how they felt 4 years ago. I do hope your getting my message here. So far I am disappointed. If we could see from the offset what date the profiles where posted, then people would have less chance of being disappointed. I will leave my posting up to see if I get any response. If I do and I have some success then I will be more than happy to pay and I will go out of my way to recommend them to others. If I don,t, then I will go out of my way to recommend to people not to use this site. Sorry about this email. I hate being grumpy, but I hate the feeling of being scammed too. Can they not have a rethink about how their site sucks people in. I know its just a business trying to make "Loads of money", but they,re playing with and preying on peoples emotions here. This site is a great idea to help people find mates. I thought it looked great and would have sent it all over FB had this not happened. Free advertising for them and ‘ not a rip off ‘dating for members……no need to charge a fortune to pay for tv adds like others. If only they realised that doing the right thing, in the longrun, could net them a regular ongoing income for years. INSTEAD THEY GET TRASHED BY PEOPLE THEY RIP OFF.........Take the money and run...Blocks to them.

as a dating site it must rank as a joke.hardly anyone in my area.in fact there where 3 people.i checked them out and they had not logged on for two years.a total waste of typing.the owners its obvious are not brave enough to put when last logged in.i did not bother with the forums,to me it was just a clique.

I joined about 18 months ago, and found a nice bunch of people. The site has a social aspect which is I didn't notice on any of the other site I joined, so you can get to know members in real life before going on dates. I have been to two of the meetups, I live in Birmingham. Everyone was very welcoming. Have not paid any money yet, still using the free services.
