“Very good bike”

Problems with the gear box are annoying but that is the only problem i can find with this bike, parts are hard to find that are cheap, bike would be better with a rear hugger as well

is the gearbox problem that its hard to find neutral?
a full oil change fixes this issue, ive found mine start the neutral plays up every 1500 to 2000 miles but is perfect after an oil change

“big looks and not too slow”

★★★★☆

written by on 12/07/2011

i have a black hyosung gt125r with stubby carbon can and stainless pipes and also rear wheel hugger, bike looks fantastic and feels like i big bike,it seems the only people that complain about these bikes being slow are people who have actually never ridden one or have thrashed it early in its life and not run it in properly,my bike easily keeps up with traffic around town but really comes too life out in the open.1st gear is a little short and second gear isnt much longer but 3rd is where its at,20 to 60 mph is quick for such a big bike with a small engine, but the bike just wants to go faster and faster when on the longer roads, ive owned a few 2 stroke racers and this just feels better! and grips the road like it should.others in its class were the honda shadow 125 (overpriced and too cruisery for my liking) the Honda Varadero 125 ( same power and great looking but a little too pinchable looking for its off road ability) honda cbr (wheels from a bmx nuff said) other 2 strokes aprillia nsr cagiva (too costly to restrict and keep fixing) so all in all for me the hyosung gt125r was the perfect learner. and its korean and uses loads of parts from suzuki not Chinese rubbish

One word AMAZING! I have only had this bike for a few days and its amazing. Its not like any other 125 on the market. I am 17 and have just come from riding a scooter (yamaha aerox 50) and its not the most simple bike to learn on. The main thing that attracted me to this bike was the size of it as i am 6ft 3 and weigh 13 stone, its is the same size as my dads mates 850 and also not too much smaller than my dads 1100. If I didnt have 'L' plates on the bike no one would know it was only a 125. People are saying that it does 0-60 in 15 seconds which in my case is not true as it is about 10 which I know is not as fast as the small unreliable 2 stoke lawnmowers but it is quick and i can still leave cars off the line. I have looked at aprilia's, derbi's and many other 2 strokes and nothing looks as good as the Hyosung. Long story short this is the best 125 on the market and I would advise anyone to get this bike.

The difference is, you don't have to spend a fortune on 2T oil with the Hyosung, because let's be honest, you can't put cheap crappy oil in a Derbi or an Aprillia. You, are evidently a midget, because anyone over the height of around 5'7", makes the Derbi and Aprillia look like a minimoto. The Hyosung is a full size bike, and the only alternative for someone of my height (6'2") is a motard style 125, which offer absolutely no wind protection. No, the Hyosung isn't as well made as some of the other bikes available, but second hand, which is how most 17/18 year olds are buying bikes, there isn't a better bike for the money. And it sounds damn good with a race can.

if you've never ridden a gearbox bike, then your cbt doesn't allow you to ride one, so, you're on the road illegally. as for changing gears, run it to the red line, around 10500, then change gear, it's only a little engine, you need to rev it to get to the power, the red line's where it is for a reason, changing gear there won't hurt it

i think my black & white GT125R is a brilliant bike to ride,& the same with the road handerling.
iv had this bike since 5/3/10 to date,it let me down on a cupple of occasions with a proble with the petrol(valve) the bike cut out on me. manufffactural problem.the dealer where who i purchase it from changed the part & every thing is good now,had a hyosung before just after thay came out loved the bike as much then as i do now.top speed is 75 can get 80 out of it at a push,i find the seat a bite bad on a longish ride.i would recommend this bike as a first time bike, looks as big as a 650? happy & safe riding to all

I inherited this bike from the wife - it was too big for her? I am 6' 2" 21 stones and this wee bike is just fine for me. It goes just fast enough for me to enjoy the ride, great wee starter bike. I went to an upholsterer and had him adjust the pillion seat, he shaved it down so that my legs could stretch out and the pillion seat not dig into my bum, now I sit back relaxed and enjoy the trip. If you are thinking about getting a starter bike you'll not go wrong with one of these.

written by on 06/01/2010

i have owned my Hyosung GT125R since new in 2007. I have ridden the bike through all weathers and clocked up over 13,000 miles. The has never skipped a beat. There have been minor "faults" that have caused irritance rather than full blown breakdown. firstly the battery died on me (my fault it was left for over 3 weeks with alarm enabled, it never worked the same after so i replaced)

secondly i have had an issue with the sidestand switch. this is a noted fault by some hyo owners. dirt and grime causes the switch to behave irratically. with a good clean this stops the issues, but i chose to just remove it.

the paint on the gas tank is good, but not suzuki/honda/kawa good.

other than that, the bike is fast, big, stylish, and sound beuitiful.

more and more aftermarket parts are becoming available as these bike get a good reputation.

i love this bike so much, i have created a website about my dealings with it.

these bikes have a switch on the stand so that the engine cuts out if you put the bike in gear with the stand down, what happens is the switch gets fouled up due to dirt getting in and the bike thinks that the stand is down even when you put the stand up.try removing the conection to the switch and shorting the pins together with a bit of wire if thise cures your problem clean the switch with wd 40 ore replace it ,hope this helps

I have a little question with this. :)
When I put on stand and it is in gear the engine cuts, just as the others.
the problem is when I wanna start it the bike acts like the battery is flat, so I changed the battery but it happened again. Its like this switch on the stand sucks all the power out of the battery :(
I tried everything...start the engine without the stand with the stand...really everything.
Please help me if u know whats the real problem :)
thanks a lot

written by gatekeeper on 29/09/2009

hi everyone,my Hyosung gt125r is a 2007 model and when i saw one at a bike show i had to have one.after some research i discovered that they were built under license from suzuki and thought they would be a good buy.so far it has been back to the dealers four times all with engine trouble, the shaft was replaced then the valves went,i put a scorpion end can on and it sounds good but top speed is only 67mph {checked by mate on a 650 bandit].its a good wee bike for back roads, but take main roads at your peril!,they also rust at the first sign of rain especially the exhaust,so i dont want to spend money upgrading the engine in case it goes again!,maybe i got a bad one, so i cant recommend them, for now its all show no go!

The Hyosung GT 125 Comet is simply the best 1st bike on the market. Purchased after completing CBT for a great price and is now providing me with miles of fun. Like every bike you have to look after it.Great sized bike that should make the transition to a more powerful bike a little less daunting.

written by on 03/08/2009

if your going to buy one of these Hyosung GT 125 Comet new try and make sure the dealer is fully qualified to work on these bikes. these bikes do take a bit more looking after than say a honda, but their worth it, easily modified, lots of after market kit at cheap enough prices. with 20yrs on bikes i wouldnt buy another one of these but i wouldnt get rid of the one i have. over all a desent enough wee bike.

“Hyosung GT 125 Comet looks Great but has 'Cheap...”

★★★★☆

written by Matt the awesome on 30/04/2009

Hyosung GT 125 Comet looks Great but has 'Cheap issues'. For instance for £1200 you could get a 07 hyosung or 57 yamaha ybr. Looks is a no contest, performance is a no contest the hyosung has massive tyres for proper leaning and racing positioning - meaning the footpegs are less likely to hit the floor with intense leaning. On smaller bikes your positioning with your knees high can be arkward and look silly.

BUT, mine had a lot of small problems and it was only 2 years old. The bike rusts quickly. The forks have very thin chrome plating leaving it vunerable to pitting ( £300 for new set) gearbox is shakey and sounds dodgey, unlike Honda's. Carb can get blocked thus flatspot.

This can be solved by buying new not running when roads are salted in winter as leads to massive rust. Keeping on top of maintainence. Choose low mileage over age and most importantly bring someone with no how. dont make the same mistake i did.

Hyosungs are amazing truly living the dream on a buget for 125s they are perfect but pick the perfect bike, properly well looked after. Oh and i got 85mph out of my comet, standard - downhill mind but it can be done. They have good reliability always starts no problem, its just the little things

★★★★★

written by tomo2607 on 09/03/2009

I have owned my Hyosung GT 125 Comet for a week now, covered over 100 mile and am lovin it. Its a big bike for a 125 and dosent look out of place next to larger engined bikes too. I have a few mods on mine such as a blue-flame exhaust, crash bars, rear hugger etc. all of which only add to the bikes presence.

It has a good seating position allowing good views above traffic, responsive acceleration for a 125, it can easily carry my 16 stone around.

If your looking into honda's CBR or yamaha's YBR then get a gt125 instead, there much bigger and will and cheaper too, mine was £1400 for an 07 plate with 1000 mile on the clock.

If you looking to do your full licence like i am then this bike will allow you to ride a full size bike on l plates while you learn.

written by dowensy on 17/02/2009

The handleing and size of the Hyosung GT 125 Comet bike are surely amazing. I've had my bike over onto the footpeg and it was still happy to hold its self there and its an easy bike to drive. Bad points are: chain and sprockets and mounting bolts rust/anodise, had a tiny problem with the electrics behind the dash which caused a short but was an easy fix :) I've managed to buy parts for my bike to increase it too around 30-35 bhp :) and increase the lower end torque and i love this bike i would recomend it to nay new rider

i bought a full exhaust system from blue flame setting me back 480 pounds and had my carbs changed too the t250 ones then had the airflow increased whiich helped the toque quite a bit as the engine runs naturaly two lean if you have a spare 400 quid you can have a turbo installed, i changed the sprockets to a lower tooth and renthal chain which made acceleration alot better aswell
