“Today show was a nightmare”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AYEaves on 13/08/2021

Today show was a nightmare aubergine purple and bumblebee yellow on the walls really this designers designs if you could call them that are atrocious. They never seems to want to design for the people that are having the make over. it’s more about their personality it is so bad I’d have nightmares if it was in my home absolutely horrid. One designer always wants to put in a color the person doesn’t like. Then another designer is a Fien for green then there’s this designer who has a bohemian sense of style That wouldn’t be so bad if she had taste. I’ve Seen this one designer on five shows and i’ve only liked one room in all the rooms.

“Anorexic ? ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 06/10/2020

Catherine Gee is painful to watch. She’s practically catatonic and seems to be forcing herself to talk. The carpets are awful, usually dreadful stripes . I realize the rooms are minutely tiny but WHY does every room have a door !? Bedrooms need them but the kitchen ? The living room ? Take the doors off and make the room look bigger. And so much furniture in these tiny rooms! I realize we Americans are spoiled for room but a 10’x10’ living room doesn’t need a huge leather couch and chair and three tables. I guess this was before wall mount TVs were available . It’s all rather sad . And all the running up and down stairs getting in the workers way. I am amazed it gets done at all . But do considère removing useless doors and putting down better carpet.

I don’t think you really pay attention to what is being said on the shows intro concerning the people that are receiving the gift of this makeover they can’t do it nor can they afford it shut up you.

“Horrible is being nice!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by spDavis284 on 09/10/2016

We recently watched an episode where every room had wallpaper. Oversized floral in the parents bedroom, psychedelic in the kids bedroom and stripes in the narrow living. The rooms where painted black. The before photos looked bright and airy so there was potential to get the perfect finished result... Horrible! Misplaced furniture. TV at opposite ends of armchair whilst the 2 seater at the other end. The rooms looked depressing and dingy. Black curtains on black walls. Kids room lacked any character. What where the designers thinking of? You can still deliver amazing results on a budget. Come on!

“Designers???In their dreams!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Allhamm on 03/09/2016

Worst make overs...worst wallpaper, worst colour schemes, worst mis match of designs. Why ket these delusionists loose on peoples' houses? Owners all smile......but all must gi out and buy pots of paint to cover up the horrendous 'makeovers'! Dark brown or dark green carpet a nightmare to keep clean, patterned carpet ombined with garish wallpaper and even more garish curtains would give most people a headache. Hope the so called designers' don't give up their day job. At keast the TV shiw identifies which 'designers' to run away from.....thr only good thing about the show.

“unbelievable”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jopablo on 09/03/2015

I am amazed by this show. It is so funny to me that people in England think that horrible wallpaper and bad painting and bad carpet constitutes a show. If you tried this nonsense in Australia you would have your throat ripped out people do not want feature wall wallpaper (so 1980's) cover up floor boards in Australia you would be shot at dawn and bad workmanship my god you would be fired. I find it hysterical that people in England let their homes be ruined by out of work actors. HYSTERICAL

“60 minutes is not enough time”

★★★☆☆

written by Ryann130 on 17/06/2014

I like the idea of the programme but paint takes longer than 60 minutes to dry. Where does all the dust go? The camera often reveals poor workmanship and how can good work be done with so many people crammed into the room being decorated? Is it fair to leave owners to finish, or patch up jobs because the time ran out? As I look now, there are about 7 people in the room and the designer is timing them. The new window curtains are about 2 feet too long. The surplus is tucked out of sight. The presenter pleasant but I hate that whistle. Whatever the state of the room there is always time for last minute touches to distract the eye.

“DISGUSTING PRESENTERS (and not much better designers)! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/01/2014

I watched the 60 min makeover many times - as there is not much on TV at this time on my day off. I am HONESTLY DISGUIST WITH THEIR PRESENTERS - I am pretty sure they were instructed to try to be sexy to increse the viewing but it only Put me off watching it - it is all quite tacky. I uderstend this should be rather a family program or aimed on renovating the family homes as a well deserved surprise for the family member who very often have been ill or sufferd some loss. That is why I can't understand why the blondy squeaky presenter wears the see trough blouse with low decolte so half of her breast are poping out while she speaks to the widower who has lost his wife recently?! She also spreads her legs as wide as possible when lays down to try the bad. On todays program the another presenter was wearing the light blue jumper where the niples of her plastic breast were clearly visable and at one point they were in full screan (I guess a special from camera man). If it is not sad would be funny!!! Ah yes and some more example of this rubish program presenting - by their woman designer (sorry no name) she also makes sure to spread the legs wide in front of camera! What sorts of entertainment they offer to me as a woman?! I feel sorry for the people who ask for teir services. I would never invite them in my house nor would I like to see them in front of my house on the way back home!

“Leave The Girl...Alone!”

★★★☆☆

written by septic. on 03/06/2013

Amanda Gee May not be everyone's ideal female presenter. There is no denying she is pleasant to observe flitting from room to room, keeping the show ticking along. Good on her, I say. If you want fat. Go look inside K Mart.

“Major design fails”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/08/2012

The "designers" are woeful at best. The work done to people's homes is so half-baked: painting ON TOP of old crappy wallpaper, putting up garish wallpaper (badly - there are always bubbles visible even on camera??), overloading cramped rooms with tacky accessories and just generally doing a big, massive design vomit behind each door. The walls will be peeling as soon as the crew leave, and then the homeowner will be forced to fix up the poor workmanship with money they probably don't have for a decor they probably don't want. I watch it purely to see the diplomacy of the homeowners (henceforth known as "victims") who claim to say that things are "beautiful" just because they are so shellshocked and are going to be on the telly. I wish just one victim would say what they are really thinking...

I have renovated many homes and recently built one. My father owned his own construction business. The work on this show is appalling! The wallpapering, sub-sub standard. The painting shocking. The tiling makeovers always a mess...this is a make over to disaster and costs to the owners to fix up the botchy jobs. Cannot believe that they actually produce this show! Not sure how they can legally get away with it when some of the owners of the homes are not actually aware of the mess these guys are making of their homes!

I totally agree, it's on now I watched it once long ago and the overall colour of the whole house was vomit greeny making me sick + very massive furnitures that takes all the whole space.
You can definitly see bubbles on camera for the wall paper, you can see the crew not knowing what they're doing and why they're doing it but stressing to waste time and not being done on time!

But I can't imagine gving away my own house just because a team is going to come to my house to turn it into a nightmare and feel good about it! And faking to be happy when the job is crapply done! That's the weirdest show ever!

“Gee is not a good role model!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 03/08/2012

Catherine gee is so painfully thin it's shocking, she is not a good role model for young women. I actually like the show and would have given it a higher rating if it were not for the visually shocking presenter. Please sort her out or just get rid of her!!!

I heartily agree! I watch the show in Australia and find her emaciated frame and painfully thin arms a total distaction from the content of a rally grat show. Either get rid of her or dress her better!

“Horrible!! They need better interior designers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by madeover on 02/07/2012

I really feel sorry for some of these people that have their homes "made" over. I mean black walls? Walls match curtains, rug and lamps... total joke. Sometimes I think the designers are more suited to designing night clubs.

“Better with Catherine Gee”

★★★★☆

written by on 17/05/2012

When this programme relied on just a Voiceover or the designers explaining their choices direct to camera, I was really surprised at how the pace of the show was dragged down. I really don't understand why so many people here have the knives out for Catherine Gee. Her size aside (it isn't really relevant), I find her polite, warm and honest. I don't remember the recipients of the makeovers being courteously escorted from their vehicles by the presenter in previous incarnations, and it's nice to hear someone with a decent vocabulary who doesn't gush over everyone. My only gripe with the programme is the tedious "begging" video at the beginning where the relatives and friends ask for the makeover. It's so bad it's embarrassing. Does everybody " always put others first and never think of themselves" and/or have to have a story of misery, tragedy or illness to deserve it? It casts a pall of icky, and almost false, sentimentality across what is supposed to be simply a feel good programme, which is why I have slightly marked it down. I get so many ideas and find out about so many great stockists and suppliers from watching this. Now all I need is more than two pennies to rub together.......

“Ditch the white tops Catherine”

★★★☆☆

written by on 04/05/2012

I love the programme but am distracted throughout by mentally criticising Catherine Gee's attire. Ok, she's too slim (maybe anorexic, poor girl) but does she have to wear white tops under other tops on nearly every show. Would love to see her in full skirts or feminine dresses - not the skinny jeans and layered tops she wears to death - better still, would love NOT to see her at all. I agree with other reviewers - she lacks what it takes for this kind of show. Bring back the designers - they did a good presenting job before.

I AGREE, GOT NOTHING AGAINST HER BUT SHE IS DREADFUL IN THIS SHOW. SHE IS ALWAYS GETTING IN THE WAY, SAYING MIND DUMBING STUFF, AND NEVER LIFTS A FINGER. ALTHOUGH HAVING SAID THAT, HAVE SEEN HER DOING A FEW SECONDS WORK TO CAMERA THEN PASSING BRUSH BACK TO SOMEONE ELSE! THE PROGRAMME SHOULD BE RUN BY THE DESIGNERS OR, SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY AR TALKING ABOUT, ITS BECOME BANAL!

“60 Minute Mistakes getting worse!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 03/05/2012

The basis of the programme is sound but why can't the reearchers find more deserving recipients of this free makeover? I would like to see people who really can't do any work on their house because they are in physically unable rather than families who can't be bothered. Whilst I like Catherine Gee, the presenter, I do wish that she showed more consideration when trashing the lucky recipients existing furniture and decoration. There are many people out there who can't afford expensive furniture and interior designers to fit out their houses and usually the furniture they throw out looks as though it is still servicable. All too often the finished makeover is totally impractical; storage space has been significantly reduced, comfortable sofas replaced with hard chairs, family dining tables replaced with tables barely big enough for two people for example. I realise they want to make a style programme but they lose credibility when they don't think practically. Come on 60MM ..get real!!

just watched the show it was disgusting that they chose people who live in a big house in the countryside in colwyn bay that some people can only dream of living and quite clearly have the money to do it up, there was nothing wrong with the interior or furniture, surely there is more deserving people who canˊt afford or physically can not do their houses up, would rather see the surprised faces of them then the ones who take it for granted
