The comments below repeat most of the good points of this robust phone however....for those looking to buy one second hand, by 2011 standards its very think, bulky and heavy. Has many useful features but is missing at least 2 very important basic functions such as ability to copy phone book to SIM and NO INTERNAL LOUDSPEAKER!. So cant be used hands free. You need to plug in a separate external speaker which is easy to loose and damage. For a phone that cost so much, the omission of such basic yet important functions is difficult to comprehend.

The Samsung D500 is a really good phone I like it very much.. the one and only bad thing is it only has 96 mb to share between photos, video, MMS, MP3 files and doesn't have a card slot that I know off. It's very durable and you have the sound mate mini external speaker which is good.

My Samsung D500 phone has been in the wash and it has taken lots of batter, but it still works perfectly......

The Samsung D500 is the greatest phone so far, beats any new phones as well. Its great, simple easy to use and you can drop it a million times and it will still work, and doesn't dent easily either, best ever phone, lasted me 4 years and still going.

I just thought I would let people who are thinking of buying a second hand D500, just how good they really are. I use mobile phones as a prime communication tool during my normal working day and not as a fashion item or toy and I can honestly say that I have used in excess of 15 to different models of phones over the years and this is by far the best.
I have just had to change to Sony W910i which if you read my review on that you will see that I am not impressed.
Anyone thinking of buying a Samsung D500 can't go wrong, and the D600 is just as good but the styling is not quite as practical.

All up? I love it! Disregard all those knockers who won't be satisfied until a Samsung employee feeds them grapes while another dials the numbers for them. It's sturdy, stylish, feature-packed and a few admittedly quite bewildering shortcomings aside (WHY CAN'T IT RING AND VIBRATE AT THE SAME TIME??????) I love it to bits and you probably will too.

Cool look, easy to hold and navigate with, takes pics you can enhance and change, videos, cool ringtones and songs. It's a cool phone. (I know this isn't really review topic but... can anyone tell me the MP3 song on ot that isn't the sunshine baby one? I renamed it and now i want it on my ipod, so if anyone could tell me the song...

Everything else about it is great. It looks good, feels good, is durable and solid, good reception. Unlike the D900 the screen does not crack when you sign on it a bit to heavily. Great stuff, more of these please Samsung.

I love my mobile, just one problem. It wont turn on any more. I don't know whether this is because I need a new battery or just a new phone, I have had my mobile for quite a while now and have dropped it a load of times in water and such things but it still worked!

When I first got this phone I was ecstatic. I thought it was sexy, small, and would last me for ages. The phone's interface is an extremely basic one consisting of nice clean and tidy menus and buttons but with no room for personalisation. You could change the wallpaper, however, it had a tendency to crop the pictures. It is easy to find your way around the phone and it is pretty fast so does tend to keep up with you when using it. The camera, even by today's phone standards, isn't too bad and with the Bluetooth function you have the option to print your photos. There is a video recorder on the phone which can record up to an hour of footage, however don't expect DVD quality footage. The player itself is quite nice with a pause facility which opens up the way to experiment a bit. My main problem with the software is that if you are someone that likes to mess around a bit, personalising the phone, breaking free of the barriers, then this isn't really for you. If, however, you are looking for a phone that is simple to use but has all the essentials then this is the one for you.
With regards to the design itself, it has a nice large screen and a smooth, sleek design. It has a loudspeaker built in but if you want that extra boost, you can plug in the included mini speaker that attaches to the side and makes that difference. It has a wonderful sliding motion and was one of the first to incorporate this design. It provides comfort, looks and ease of use; however, this is also its main downfall. Unfortunately the sliding mechanism on this phone makes for a few problems. During the year that I had my D500 the screen stopped working 3 times, each time getting sent back and mended.
The phone is good for those who want a simple phone with a video camera that fits neatly into a pocket or purse, but beware you may find yourself spending more time in phone shops than you expected.

It's now perhaps quite obvious that I speak in very high esteem of both Samsung and this particular model. The design, reliability, service and quality are, so far, unmatched to me. If you want a flashy phone more for the Media and ''DJ's out there amongst us, well... there's probably better, but for everybody else? Go for it.

Basically, if you want a smart, neat phone which can last you for a few years then this phone is ideal.
There aren't many clever or inventive features to this phone apart from the screensaver which has a brilliant way of showing if you have had a message etc. This particular feature makes this phone twice as good.
The camera and video is impressive quality and can be used as a normal camera for going to sport events etc. When I went to see Chelsea play Fulham I videoed Drogba's goal and it came out brilliantly.
I love the way the phone looks and it is a very neat object which slips into your jeans pocket without any problems.
For technology lovers this phone will probably be obsolete because the features are really not at all cutting edge.
I have awarded 9 out of ten because all I want in a phone is a phone, and as a phone the D500 is excellent and I think it will be a future classic.
Also, I have never experienced technical problems with this phone.

I wouldn't ever have a Samsung again and I definitely would recommend this to anyone. Get a Sony Erricson instead you can't go wrong. :D

Overall good phone

I have owned the Samsung D500 mobile phone for about 3 months now. It is a good all round phone with good memory, excellent quality 1.3 Mega Pixels camera with Zoom and video player, excellent voice recorder that can record for 1 hour, the colour display is also top quality, and there is enough memory to store loads and loads of pictures and a very good MP3 player to listen to your tunes on.
It offers excellent style sliding action, and among other phones the Samsung D500 is top of the range when it comes to style, quality, value for money and ease of use!!
This is definitely worth a try if you are looking for a new phone with features like Bluetooth, Infrared, MultiMedia Messaging and a fully scheduling Calendar to store all your key dates in, like Birthdays, Anniversaries, Reminders with an alarm, and a To Do List! And also others...
As a phone, the Samsung D500 is all you will need, whatever your job, lifestyle age or preferences. It has something for everyone!! I recommend it fully 10/10. A+.

Firstly, a lot of good things have been justifiably said about this phone. Now it's become so popular, prices have dropped online, so it's a real bargain. Since the good points are probably so well known, I'll focus on the points that are making me change from this to another phone.
Firstly, the user interface is not particularly intuitive. For instance, when starting a text message, you never know whether it's going to start on normal text mode, or predictive. Additionally, when you've finished inputting, it seems to assume that you're always going to enter a number manually, rather than more logically assuming you're going to go to your phone book to find an already saved number. Sony Ericsson phones go one better than that and actually put the last 5 or so texted numbers at the top, correctly assuming you are more likely to text someone you have only recently texted, in a 'text conversation' of sorts. Samsung seem to assume it'll be a new person every time!
Secondly, when using the predictive texting, there is the option to spell your own words that may not be in the dictionary (names, abbreviations, etc). However, the spaces in this user-defined-dictionary are limited, and I find that after a time words I previously spelt out are no longer recognised, and I have to respell them, thus knocking another word out!
OK, I admit, these two points are pretty niggle, but for someone who texts a lot, its a major part of my phone use, and such is more important to me than what MP the camera is, whether it has a memory card, etc. If it doesn't do the basics, the extras don't mean much! I'll be upgrading to the Sony Ericsson K610i when I can.

This phone was great when I first had it, it was stylish and had everything I needed in a phone, with a great camera and easy access to everything on the display, on the screen.
I found it very easy to use and the next phone i get will be a Samsung phone probably the D900.

I have had the phone for almost a year now and its the best phone I have ever had, I must have dropped it a least 30 times and it still works perfectly well! Also, everything is very easy to find and it has a massive memory for videos and songs. All in all, an amazing phone!

The Samsung D500 is a really gorgeous phone. I love it soooo much, and I have had loads of other phones so I would know. Honestly, this phone is so lovely I would choose it over practically any other phone. It is way better than its more popular sister (The Samsung E370), because the E370 breaks so easily (the slider part).
I would totally recommend this phone. And Orange Rocks!!

I have the D600 and the sturdiness of these phones are exceptional. On one occasion when getting out of my car my phone slipped out of my bag flew across the road, then it was promptly ran over. Guess what two tiny scratches on the side, thats it. Great phone, great brand and great review.
