“Amazing!”

The breed itself has a reputation for being vicious and uncontrollable but ive never known a breed more loving.Ive grew up with Rotties all my life and have been around them since I was 3 days old. He weighed around 82kg and treated me like his best friend..slept next to my crib every night and even used to put my dirty diapers in the bin. Unfortunately due to his size he contracted crippling arthritis which is the only downfall of the breed. They need long walks and runs every day,if they don't they will pile on the pounds due to their diet and appetite which will put more pressure on their joints. My family payed around $1000 for him when he was 6 months old in 1996 and was about the same size as a cigarette packet, strongly advise you do your research when looking to buy this breed as many breeders wont provide you the correct information about your puppy. Best to check the mother and fathers health records too so you know what your getting yourself into. Never a dull day with a rottie! hope this helps.

“A Whole Lotta Love!”

Our 5 year old male rotti Oreo is the most loving, loyal, quick learning dog we have ever had he's very good with cat's & other dog's & luv's luv's luv's children & his people, he does need daily exercise a daily 2-3 mile hike & play time or he gets a little pushy. you have to be stern but loving because they are opportunist and will test you at all time's. The only issue is that they are so big Oreo being 150 Lbs. that just trying to show there love can be harmful to the elderly & young children by nocking them down. and there average life span is 8 year's

“A great breed ”

I have a male rottie. And he is by far the sweetest most goofiest dog. They do require a lot of attention. They are quick to realize who their owner(s) and once that is set they will be the most loving companions. My rottie follows me everywhere I go when I'm in the house. Sometimes it's a pest to deal with but it's mainly because they like to be close to their owner and with them at any given time. They do need exercise daily since they are meant to be strong and powerful dogs. Their instinct is to do any kind of work or be active so don't be surprised when a Rottweiler is busting a door down to go play outside. My husband and I took Memphis (our rottie) to every event we could go to. His younger sister played soccer in high school so we always took him to those mainly so he would always be around children and other dogs while he was still a pup. He love love loves children and acts very well around other dogs even if the opposing side is aggressive towards him. Now I am not saying your dog will be just like mine obviously everyone has different circumstances but it is really all About how you treat them from a young age and while they are growing. Overall, I seriously have nothing bad to say about Rottweilers. Yes, maybe people might already have a bad impression but that just goes back to the old fashion "how u raise them" type of deal. You could have a chihuahua that is aggressive because their owner did a poor job of raising it. My point is With just about anything it's important to raise and train them right. With those key principles you will have no problems owning a beautiful strong willed dog. Be stern but gentle. Always show them love but show them who the boss is.

Tyson hates been on his own for long amounts of time as he loves attention!!!! Rotties aren't the bad dogs people out there think they are!!! If they are trained right with proper owners they are the best dogs in the world!!!!

As a dog lover myself, I can appreciate how loving a Rottweiler can be to its 'family', however, you only have to encounter one of these on the sharp end to be put off.

They have, in my experience, a major design flaw. While they are able to chase a fleeing cyclist quite competently for a short distance, as I found out while on holiday in Mississippi recently, their bite orientation is directionally limited while running. After dog has caught cyclist it turns head to savage furiously revolving ankle (on pedal), however Rotty physiology means that with head turned to left it slows down, meaning it drops back and has to point head forwards to catch up to sweating, cursing cyclist to have another go. Cycle repeats itself. Luckily, for cyclist, dogs heavy build does not make it a great sprinter.

Wouldn't fancy my chances doing same thing thing with a Doberman, though.

What if you weren't on a cycle and in a closed space..i bet you would be able to fight off a doberman much more than you would be able to fight of a rottweiler.

One thing we found with our Rottweiler is that training is a must, as they can soon get out of control and turn your home upside down. They love cuddles and chewing, so all good shoes must be kept out of his reach.

Hill, you could well be writing about my grandson's Jack Russell/Patterdale cross -- he's the same.
You're absolutely right about the training of course and it's a great shame that certain Rottweiler owners don't do it properly. I hope you continue to enjoy him.
Mrs Harvey.......lovely pic. Is he/she yours?

To my surprise our friends male Rottweiler is very kind, sweet and friendly. He does require a lot of attention though, and plenty of exercise, otherwise he can be quite (knowingly) naughty.
He is also very protective over my female Collie cross, even though she is the oldest of the two. Expect to have huge food bills though, as they eat loads.

I have been privileged to have been the 'person' in the lives of five Rottweilers during the past 20 years, and have found the breed to be the almost-perfect dog, its only drawback being its not-too-long life-span.

All five of my Rottweilers, while having their own characters, soon developed the typical breed traits of loyalty, protectiveness and courage.

The good part is that the only effort needed to bring out these qualities is the application of large amounts of kindness, firmness (not harshness) and dog biscuits!

I had a female Rottweiler for about 9 years. She was one of those dogs that love people who she grew up around, but she did not like new people at all. She would try to attack all of my friends and she didn't like other dogs either. This is probably just because she didn't grow up with much exposure to other people. I think Rottweilers are great companions, but they can get pretty big.
