This film is a cinematic masterpiece in my opinion. The fight scenes and the views are genuinely awesome. One example is when two of the men have a fight on a lake. They are actually walking and running on water and it is great to watch. The vivid colours are brilliant also, one scene in particular is when the two women are fighting in the woods with the leaves everywhere.
I think for the colours and images this film is unrivalled. Unfortunately though, I thought the plot was a bit dodgy. I think the director or writer was trying very hard to make the plot so that at the end of the film, the viewer would just sit down for ten minutes and think about life and stuff, unfortunately he/she has failed. I am mainly talking about the bit at the end. I won't be specific so I don't ruin it for anyone, but the main character's 'on the spot, in the moment' decision' was in my opinion a bit far-fetched and you would have thought the best warrior in China would have made vital decisions like this one before he left to do his job.
As you can see above, I can't really explain my point clearly without giving the story away so I will just say; loads of bits of this film are simply ridiculous and you wouldn't get away with it with any other film. But, the special effects and scenes are so vivid and beautiful that I would enjoy this film immeasurably if the plot was about someone painting a fence.
I think this film therefore deserves to be watched because it is very rare that a film can be worthwhile for the scenery and special effects alone.
I saw this film on FILM4 (on freeview) and it is probably repated every few months.
