Had a iRiver H320 MP3 Player for over a year now. Great for keeping me amused when contact grass cutting, keeping us all entertained on long journeys with talking books, Acts just like a external hard drive on Windows so really easy to tx/organise music/video/audio. Also has radio and a dictaphone built in. Supports other files than MP3. Great Iriver community on the WWW for updates, ideas, downloads. Worth every penny.

This iRiver H320 is my first MP3 player and I have nothing but praise for it. The features and sound quality give it the edge. The transfer of files is quick and simple, and with the newest firmware it supports video playback. The H320 is recognised under Windows XP as a mass storage device and can act like any 20 gb hard drive. The clear colour screen is a little on the small side for video compared to dedicated MP4 players, but more than enough for the other information. I have also used the supplied microphone to record with good results. You can also record the included FM radio which is an added bonus.

“The iRiver H320 is a lovely unit. So many people seem...”

★★★★★

written by vocrobot on 04/11/2005

The iRiver H320 is a lovely unit. So many people seem to go for the ipod for style rather than functionality, and really this model wins hands down.

I have read reviews that say that the H320 is complicated to use. Is it heck! I am no computer expert but this took very little effort to use. It uses the method I like the best. Copy music onto your computer via WM. Then drag and drop the music onto the player. Dead simple even for a novice like me.

The file tree search facility is very easy to use and does not take ages like several reviewers have said. I love just putting the unit into shuffle mode and then seeing what it chooses for me to listen to.

I stated battery life as a bad point. I have to say I have only charged the battery twice, so it's optimum condition may not have been reached yet. However I am very confused about what is the best way to charge it; from flat every time or regular half charges. There seem to be lots of differing opinions, and as it is fixed in the unit and I am not confident to change it myself (it is possible), I want to make sure I get the best life out of it.

Definitely worth getting if you can find one!

I forgot to mention in my original review the most important feature; the sound quality. It's excellent.

My music is encoded as WMA at 128kbps and even at the normal sound setting (there are quite a lot of sound settings), the music sounds superb. Good sounding bass and everything very clear.

“I bought the iRiver H320 in June so I could take my...”

★★★★★

written by Bumsoft on 23/10/2005

I bought the iRiver H320 in June so I could take my music on holiday with me. It isn't actually that big, in fact it's smaller than an ipod, but, the leather carry case makes it huge, and makes the buttons harder to press. It does offer amazing protection though.

The screen is amazing, it's monitor-quality LCD, with backlight. and it turns off after about 20 seconds, so there's no battery drain either. despite being such a small screen, it shows pictures in fantasticly high resolutions, but can't zoom in, annoyingly.

If you go into the options menu, you've got more buttons to press and things to twiddle than in a jumbo jet. It's amazing, and you can change anything on the player. haven't experimented much with the radio yet, so I can't really comment on that (but it does definitely work).

I bought it from my local Dixon's store for £200. People say this is expenive, but it's £20 more on Amazon, and unfortuantely iriver doesn't have an RRP.

The only really bad thing I can say about this 'player is the battery life. It is claimed that a battery will last 16 hours, but I wouldn't believe it. using skills of conservation, I can make a battery last about a week, or longer. sounds Ok you say, but that isn't listening to it that much. The battery icon in the corner is also very misleading. as soon as one of the little batteries has gone, it's about half empty. and the 2nd and 3rd little batteries seem to disappear in about 5 minutes. Hmmm. looking at pictures is the biggest battery-killer by far. NB: remember to drain the battery empty before recharging, otherwise the battery gets destroyed.

What you get with the player isn't too good either. the instruction manual is very uninformative, and claims you get a remote with it. Which you don't and they cost £15 to. The free headphones are rubbish also, so I use ipod headphones I got from apple's website free too.

Despite minor drawbacks, I thoroughly recommend this player, so just because of how amazingly amazing it is, but also becasue you look different to all your friend's with their identical ipods. You will not be disappointed...

“After buying a Sony MP3 player and tangling with sonic...”

written by wadepayne on 11/07/2005

After buying a Sony MP3 player and tangling with sonic stage I began to wonder if an MP3 player was for me. Quick review search on the internet showed the iRiver to be a popular player. However I am a big beliver in hands on so off to Dixons to pretend to be interested in the iRiver h320. As soon as the demonstration began I was taken.
1. The players functions are slightly diffrent to other players. When searching for music the menu is vary much like a windows menu, i.e. music is kept in folders. So Oasis would be the main folder, then sub folders contain albums folders and then album folders con tracks (easy peasy).
2. To transfer music is so easy, simply drag the music or album across onto the irivers hard drive and thats it!
3. When you have transfered your selected music from you pc. You can delete should you require unlike the iPods.
3. The sound is absolutly outstanding compared to other players I have tried. The operator can adjust the music settings as they wish or use on of the many predetermined ones.
4. The iRiver comes with an FM radio, which surprised me and works very well. I have now got most of the popular radio stations preset and often listen to the radio in the garden via travel speakers.
5. Might not be important for some but the player has a voice recording facility with a microphone supplied. This can also be used to record radio, which I did with great effect during Live 8, editing it afterwards on my home pc.
6. Text docs can be transfered across to the player.
7. The player can store and disply pictures that you may wish to display as a portable album or if your digital camera memory is full then transfer the pics to the iRiver hard drive.
8. The colour screen is clear and crisp unlike some other models such as the Sony HDD5.
9. Battery life is 15 hours according to the manufacturer. Which for some people might not be enought but it beats the iPod.
10. The player transfers with either USB 1 or two its up to you. But transfer is very quick.
11. The iRiver was supplied with a power charger, microphone, decent headphones, usb lead, an out put lead (to connect player to stero etc), a protective case that actully protects the player but still allows the user to acces all functions even when charging and transferring music etc, instructions, installation software and a years warrenty.
To summarise the player is very easy to use, easy to navigate, easy to transfer and between £180 and £220 well worth the money.
Thanks and I hope this helps other people.

The iRiver H320 is just another MP3 player that shows how much iPods "apple" sucks. The H-320 offers more functions than any ipod. With the H-320 your can listen to music and the radio, view TEXT files and pictures, and even watch movies:) The H-320 also offers you SRS (WOW) digital sound. Not to mention the large color LCD Screen which makes it perfect for watching movies. This is definitely an mp3-player worth buying!!!
