Fantastic headphones! They are cleverly built to not go into the ear too deeply. Excellent results. When you have Sony dual bass enabled, the Sony MDR-ED21LP is amazing, offering a heavy bass sound and a very simple sound.

I think it's one of the most comfortable earphones I've ever bought. I really like the way it fits in with my ears, with a clean and clear sound and amazing bass. Overall the result is outstanding.

"The earphones are still fully functional... despite going through the washing machine numorous times!"
I've had these earphones for about 3 years now and it's started to show, but it was worth it as they're a bargin. Basically the rubber bit near the ear pieces are falling off and the rubber around the wire on a bit of it's coming off. The earphones are still fully functional though, despite going through the washing machine numorous times!
I will be buying another pair today/tomorrow but I'll keep the other pair as a spare or perhaps when I go on a beach :)

best all-day all-purpose headphones on the market. i use em for over 5 years now, just bought my 6th or 7th pair. use them for sports of all kinds, running, cycling, ski, mountaineering, any conditions. they survive in really bad weather. compared to others, they are very low profile. using a 16mm driver, the sound is very good for a low budget in ear. comfort is very high if they fit you, you can easy sleep with these in your ears.
theres a simple reason sony still has these in program since years: they are good!
will enhance the sound of your ipod/anymp3player by 200% compared to the ipodinears/anycheapinears delivered with it.

Sony MDR-ED21LP has great bass, absolutely fantastic headphones. Sound, comfort, fittings, value for money, everything.

The Sony MDR-ED21LP headphones are great, i've relied on them for at least 4-5 years now as the sound quality is so good and has just the right amount of powerfull bass punch for my liking.
They are very robust too as i'm still only on my second pair (which i bought about 2 years ago) even tho i continuously mistreat them, snag them, swing them around, throw them on the floor, stand on them and wrap them around my mp3 player.. yet they still work perfectly! Amazing sound quality
Robust
Stay in the ear! Only bad point is rubber in-ear bits break up over time and can hurt

They are pretty good earphones. Sound quality is good not super bass but that is what you would aspect from little headphones. they dont fit in your ear that great (keep falling out). I reccomend these to people with a mp3 player and all they want is just soem ordinary headphones then there ok but if you whant some VERY bassy ones and AMAZING sound quality then go for these. - Sennheiser CX300S they are fantastic like i said above then i highly reccomend these so the rest is up to you to choose.

These Sony MDR-ED21LP ear phones have become my 'old faithfulls'. The only reason I am on my 4th pair (over a 5-6 year period) is because I use them whilst cycling - in all weathers. Also, the wire doesn't like to be rolled up for long - I found wrapping it around an MP3 player and leaving it all day ultimately breaks the cable inside the sleeve. Other than that they are pretty robust.

The Sony MDR-ED21LP are awesome when you have Sony dual bass or mega bass activated, gives a powerful bass sound and very clear sound

The Sony MDR-ED21LP are as near to perfect as you get. I actually get a better sound from these than I do from my Sennheiser great big headphones. Pretty tough too, have snagged them a few times and they still work fine. All the bits that usually get broken are bendy rubber.

Absolutely has been recommended.

I'm on my second pair and it would take a very good pair of headphones to make me buy any different model next time (providing these are still available then). Great sounding and I would recommend them to anyone looking for in-ear headphones.

Assuming I buy another one now, this will be my third pair, although this will be my first set of ED21s - I got the 31s before due to the neckchain-style cord which was also made of higher quality material, apparently. Greek to me.
This set started coming apart at the join point for L & R cords (continual rugged use, lasted over a year, can't complain since bluetack, shrinkwrap and superglue stopped the rot, and it never affected the sound). It's now on the fritz as the jack (gold plated, unlike the 21s) has decided it'll only play the right ear randomly. Since the special uprated jack was the thing which caused it to fail properly, it's probably no bad thing that this is now not available.

I bought them in 2006 Feb., and since then used them twice a day in transport and all the time with my laptop at home. Now they're damaged and I'll by new ones soon. So I gave:
* 10 for sound quality, because I've tried much but never found better sound. I recently had a chance for headphones from Philips Gogear SA179. In this case sound quality switch from sony to philips was like from Mercedes to Fiat.
* 9 for comfort level, because rubber cord works like stethoscope and if music is off, you can hear extra sounds. Of course, its ONLY when sound is off.
* 10 for value for money, because I bought them for around 30$, now in amazon they are for 19$!!! Incredibly cheap for sony+neodymium.
* Overall 9 because still I believe there is Lamborghini or at least Ariel Atom, which will definitely put my Mercedes in place. Still, Sony MDR-ED21LP is the best if you have mid-sized ear and spare 20$.

These headphones are ace! They have a great sound, and they look amazing. The bass and mid sounds are excellent compared with other headphones I have tried, and the price is reasonable for a quality brand. Another good point is the cable, which has stood up to all kinds of punishment without tearing to expose the wires inside like a lot of headphones I have tried.
The shape and fit of the Sony MDR-ED21LP headphones may not fit everyones ear, as it has the bass booster bit that can be uncomfortable to new users, but you get used to it eventually, and the price may put others off who are on more of a budget.
I have tried loads of in-ear headphones, and they were excellent until my brother lost them. I'm now going to try out a pair of Skullcandy Smokin' Buds.

I wish I could have listened through these Sony MDR-ED21LP headphones before I bought them. They are expensive compared to other ear-bud type headphones. I don't know if it makes a difference, but the Panasonic headphones are bigger, which could explain the better sound.
