I Graduated From Leeds Metropolitan University In
I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 05 and on the whole, found the experience to be a good one. The university tends to get a lot of stick for being the academically inferior of the city's two universities but as far as my course went (a design based course) I don't think I could have done much better. I found the technical facilities were generally good but a little over crowded at the end of term, the library was generally useful and there's also a massive sports campus in nearby Headingley with good facilities for sporty types and gym enthusiasts (although I am not one of these people so can't give much more info on that..)
I was based in the city campus which was handy as it was close to shops and bars etc, but this can also be distracting as it's tempting to head into town when you should be studying! Also, the canteen & coffee shop facilities are pretty average here but the food is affordable.
OK now for the important bit - the night life. Leeds has a massive student population so there is more than enough to do. There's a good mix of usual student cheese (cheap vodka, bad tunes, sticky dancefloors) and nights aimed at the more niche markets. There's often nights on at the Uni itself with some big names, doing gigs there I've seen some classic acts including DJ Yoda and Goldie Lookin' Chain. Oh yes, classics!! As well as this there's just a general buzz about the place and neighbouring areas of Hyde Park and Headingley are mostly taken up by student housing so there's plenty of parties and the like.
Overall, I would fully recommend Leeds Met... not bad as far as uni's go and Leeds is a great city, so good I even lived there for a while after my degree!
