I agree with a previous remark. Sheffield is a very corporate university and don't care too much about students. Don't do post grad studies there. Unless you are friendly with particular members of staff, you will get no opportunities. Downright rude and arrogant in many cases. My head of department told me I was not as good a student as his more favoured grad students. The result? Most of his favourites barely passed and I am on my third book. Avoid!

I personally believe that the union is quite snobby with little communication with students, a lot of the work goes on behind the scenes in other unions this isn't the case sports secs and other staff get involved in student projects are frequently chatting with students.
Overall I would say much of the uni is distracted and every student from the moment they register is treated as a number an example my main tutor who despite monthly tutorial time didn't recognize me when i went to ask him a question after knowing me three years.
Overall Sheffield could be a very good uni but there are thousands of students and staff/lecturers have little opportunity to help or discuss topics with any of them. This is not the case in other universities.

I did my Bsc (Hons) in Systems Modeling here and really enjoyed it. So much so that I only got a 2.2. The people of Sheffield are some of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. The city of Sheffield is full of character and has plenty of student night life to offer. The campus has a great buzz. You will love it.
