Really nice pub in a really nice location, just on the canal perfect for walks.. We stumbled across this pub by accident but the real home made food is amazing and real ale to wash it down with.. Nice campsite will be returning in the summer months

Stayed at The Cotton Arms 24/25 July. Plenty of room on the field for the kids to play.Tents not too near each other. It was quite empty though when we were there.
The pub is good for food, and there are many different beers you can try.
Only one toilet and one shower and you have to pay a £1 for the shower. They are both clean and there are clean towels in the toilet for your hands (no hot water though).
Another pub called the Dusty Miller just outside the site v nice but pricey.Nice walks along the river and there is a place when you can hire barge boats v pretty, also a shop there with a toilet on site.
We went to Nantwich for the day a lovely town and spotless.Overall a good weekend owners of the Cotton Arms nice only downside was toilet, and shower.
Forgot to mention there is a s/ steel sink outside for washing pots plenty of hot water.Dog friendly pub which is great all in all a good weekend great for £10 a night this was without e/ hookup.

Have stayed at The Cotton Arms 4 times over the past 3 years and each time there have been major improvements, Bertie Basset must be a miserable so and so if he did not enjoy his stay, read the visitors book for a true impression of the place. Great food, friendly staff, dogs and kids very welcone.

The The Cotton Arms is in a great location. Lovely village and canal side location. The site was very basic. In need of some maintenance. We had a great time. Made to feel very welcome by the regulars. Good base for walking and cycling.

“The Cotton Arms campsite consists of 2 fields, one...”

written by Fat Lad on 01/06/2005

The Cotton Arms campsite consists of 2 fields, one with electricity and one without for pitching Caravans, Campers or Tents. We paid £8 pound per tent per night which we thought was quite cheap (not sure what the price is for caravans or electricty). As soon as we got there we were handed a pack which included the rules, these were quite lengthy and good quite easily have spoilt the trip but luckily the landlord seemed to be lenient with us about the particular rule that only allows gas BBQ's (Good job really considering that we had turned up with a bootload of food and a charcoal BBQ). All that we were asked was to dispose of the coals sensibly before we left but I know of one group that actually moved to another campsite because of this rule. The food at the Cotton Arms pub is very nice but when we were there they did not seem to serve breakfast so the closest anybody got to a fry-up was gammon and egg. There was only one toilet on the site and too be honest it was not very nice but the pub doors are open all day and you are welcome to use the toilets in there so this did not cause too much of a problem (at least not for the lads in the group that can be 'imaginative' about where to toilet outside of pub opening hours). Overall a good site but be warned that if the rules are enforced it could spoil things.

We enjoyed our stay at the cotton arms just 1 thing that got on our nerves was the village clock that charmed every hour on the hour when you are in a tent its very noisy!!.The food was great we could even take the little yorkie in with us which was good. The only thing to be improved would be the toilets that you have to use at night not nice!!!!

“The Cotton Arms campsite in Wrenbury is quite a large...”

★★★★☆

written by Janine on 31/05/2005

The Cotton Arms campsite in Wrenbury is quite a large site. There are 2 large fields where you can take your tent / campervan or caravan. I'm not sure if the price fluctuates throughout the season, but we paid £8 per tent per night without electricity which I thought was reasonable.
The village is very small but pretty, the canal runs right through, there is a gift shop and restaurant by the canal. If you need food supplies, you have to go to the village post office which is in the opposite direction of the canal (past the cotton Arms, well within walking distance.)
The only thing I would suggest is take breakfast supplies (we foolishly didn't and ended up having to wait for the pub to open at 12) We thought we could get a big breakfast from the cotton arms but didn't notice it on the menu (Not sure if this was because it was bank hol and it may be to busy to do a breakfast) Anyway, we all ended up eating things like fish and chips, or duck for breakfast, but is was lovely. The average price for a meal in the Cotton Arms is about £10 per head.
The pub on the corner by the canal looks lovely, we had a couple of drinks, but did not sample the food, it is mostly restaurant food, although there was a small selection of cold sandwiches too.
My only gripe about this place is that there is only 1 toilet and 1 shower block to serve the whole site, which I can imagine in the height of summer can get a little smelly and messy. During pub hours you can use the pub toilets (12-11). There isn't anywhere in the toilet to plug hair straighners or hair dryers in girls, so do be warned if you have booked without electric!
Another word of warning, you are not supposed to use BBQ's unless they are gas, this is mentioned in the rules, although we only had a normal one which we used, but nothing was said by the owner, another couple mentioned that they had been told off the previous night tho for having a charcoal one.

written by the cotton lovers on 29/08/2004

The Cotton Arms is a very pleasant pub and a very pleasant village. It is in the ideal place for a totally relaxing weekend. The pub is run very well and very professionally. The staff are of excellent standards, the young chef must know his job as the food is out of this world, the bar staff are pleasant and conversational which is a pleasant change, you feel like a friend not a customer. During my time there I was served by a very pleasant woman behind the bar with lovely hair and a young blonde lad who was quite easy on the eye. The establishment and the village are well recommended...... all in all a very fun and enjoyable holiday and one well worth a re-visit. Although the outside toilets may be old, the landlord opens the pub door at 8am until 12am so you can use the toilets inside the pub. The showers are new so a pound is nothing to spend!
I don't know why anybody could expect a curry house in a village location but there are some city slickers about! overall I would recommend the cotton for anyone wanting a fun packed weekend or a quiet chill out. Plenty going on or just sit back and relax!
Yesterday we played bowls, then we did dominos, then bingo and that was before we had a great time on the karaoke!

Of course we want a curry house, we need something to get the gasses flowing to keep the tent warm!!!

“The Cotton Arms camp site is located in a lovely area....”

★★★☆☆

written by littlemissdrunk on 09/08/2004

The Cotton Arms camp site is located in a lovely area. We booked after finding the site on the internet. The Onsite facilities advertised were: Toilets, Showers, Pets Allowed, Children's Play Area, Bar/Pub, Restaurant, Takeaway Food, Games Room and/or Amusements, Fishing, Crown Bowling Green, Function Room Available, Canal Side Pub. We thought this would be perfect.

We arrived and pitched our tents. The grass was in need of a cut, but that didn't really bother me. We then had a few drinks in the pub and played bowls (I think it was a charity event), we had a laugh as we had never played it before, everyone was really friendly and understanding!

I then decided to check out the toilets, there is one out side toilet and its disgusting! I wouldnt even let my dog go in there! It smelt like they havnt been cleaned in years - or painted. The floor was sticky, the sink only had cold water to wash your hands in - yuk! The pub toilets are a lot better, I suggest to use them if you need to go!

The site has no facilites to wash dirty pots. We brought a small BBQ with us, half way through the night we were told that we shouldn't really be using it as the land lord had banned BBQ's as a lady set fire to some bushes on the field when she through hot coles into them.

The childrens play area is at the back of the pub in the beer garden. It has 2 swings, and a climbing frame. There is a tree house but its closed, it looks like its about to fall down!

We had breakfast in the pub in the morning - its £3.99 for an English Breakfast and a brew. This was ok, but the coffee wasnt up to much, it looked like they had put one teaspoon of coffee into a large pot of water.

I would recommend the area to others, but not the campsite.

As reference the Cotton Arms is advertised as a quaint village area would you really expect a fast food take away to be situated in the middle of a rural village? we are frequent visitors of the fore mentioned pub and find its facilities more that adequate, the landlord is very jolly and an extremely good golfer his wife (the land lady) is very pleasant and knows how to have her a good time although partial to a glass of red wine or ten....... all in all I would recommend this site to anybody. The young chef is superb and very pleasant in fact quite attractive if I do say so my self, but going off the lines now on a serious note I can not fault the establishment or the village both of which are kept to an extremely high standard and the pub is a joyous night out......

If you see something advertised on the TV, you expect to get EXACTLY what is described. I am just outlining that he should not advertise there is a takeaway, if there isn't. Or outline that it is a takeaway service from the pub ONLY where you can expect to pay £11 for a steak. I find this to be false advertising. I agree the the land lord and landlady are very nice, but I will not be going back, that toilet looks like it hasn't been cleaned / painted for centuries!
