“We changed from Verizon to Cingular in Feb 06. ...”

We changed from Verizon to Cingular in Feb 06. Everything has been alright besides all the dropped calls. The past 2 bills we have been charged for 750; 520 text messages. There is no possible way we could have used that many between the two of us. When we called, they try to talk you into paying them MORE money for unlimited when we already pay them $120 a month. Its not that we need unlimited because we don,t use the 400 we have between the two of us. We had this problem when we had them before Verizon but w/minutes also, I don,t know why we ever went back. They drop your call when your needing to use your phone the most, like when my mother-in-law had a wreck and could not even get 911 to go through.

I have had cingular/ at &; for 3 years. They were OK at first, but, when I renewed my contract, I received overpriced very junk phones 6126 Nokia. The surface pealed, and one of the phones quit working. The second phone has very bad. I returned the one within the first week, they replaced it, but, the replacement phone didn't last long. when I sent that one back. they sent another one. then about 2-4 weeks later, they charged my account $127.00 and claimed the phone was neglected. (This phone was hardly used) I want out of their stupid contract without paying $300.00 They got enough of my money.

I was charged for the 4 months by Cingular even though I cancelled my subscription. No option for you to cancel your auto payment options. No options in Website, No options for the retailers...all the above even over phone also...
I called and cancelled my auto-recharge. Just to verify I called again, got to a different Rep. he said still its enabled.

“My phone broke, so I went to the Cingular store in...”

★★☆☆☆

written by succer21 on 21/08/2007

My phone broke, so I went to the Cingular store in Villa La Jolla Drive. My original plan was to get a new phone that is not too expensive. I was told that since I have a year contract I have warranty and I am eligible for getting my phone replaced at no cost. On my next bill I was charged $115 for getting a new phone because after their investigation they claimed the damage was not covered in the warranty. When I complained, I was told that I had to read the contract more carefully regardless of the fact that the sales person told me it was for free. If we should read the contract page by page what is the sales person's job? I tried to return the phone after a week I got it. The phone was in perfect condition, but it was not possible to be returned. Their customer service is horrible and useless!

“I had Cingular for nearly 6 years before the AT&T...”

★★★★☆

written by xmasbaby on 03/07/2007

I had Cingular for nearly 6 years before the AT&T takeover. Before Cingular, I had Verizon. Honestly, I never experienced a problem with Cingular. No dropped calls, network always available, great customer service, etc. The AT&T takeover has changed all of that. If you were a previous Cingular customer and are coming back because of the AT&T takeover and their enticements to come back, I advise you to look at other providers first for comparison and make your best judgement. I do not believe I will be renewing my contact with AT&T once it expires. Here is the review I left for AT&T: I have been a Cingular customer for about 6 or 7 years. Cingular has always been good to me. Signal quality has always been very good. Also, never experienced any dropped calls, and I thought it was a good value. That is until AT&T took over. I've had past experiences with AT&T, so I wasn't taking chances. When they took over my land line company (SBC), I cancelled the account and went with another provider. When they took over Cingular, I felt a sense of dread and I was correct. The first bill I got after the takeover included erroneous charges. For example, I had an additional $12.00 charge. I called AT&T and they said that my son had downloaded a game to his phone. Not possible. Why? Because when I added his line to my account, I called Cingular (at the time) and had Internet and text messaging capabilities removed from his line. Also, when Cingular had the network, I never experienced a dropped call. Now that AT&T has taken over, I have dropped calls all the time. I cannot have one conversation with anyone without a dropped call. I hate AT&T.

If you do decide to go with AT&T please make sure that you watch your monthly bill/statement closely, as they will sneak in additional charges. Every time I have ever had AT&T, it has been like that. Good luck!

★★☆☆☆

written by sefpsu on 18/04/2007

Need to really re-think their plans. The phones do not hold up and they are unwilling to help you if your phone breaks through no fault of your own. Terrible. Prices are WAY too high as well. There is no really basic plan. (coverage area is good)

This Mobile Phone Networks sucks!!!Stay away as far as you can go from Cingular. My husband and I were looking for the cheapest/value for money family plan out there...because believe me family plans tend to be pretty expensive..and we couldn't go through T mobile, because he already had a contract with them and that would be breaking his contract...anyway, so we decided to go with Cingular....bad choice. I am still regretting it. I try to call my husband...the call drops allllllll the time! It goes through when I call my friend -- whose with Verizon, but never to nobody else. I'm so irked with Cingular.

Just go for the little more expensive plans with another provider.....because honestly you might be getting a better bargain there than with Cingular...half the time your using your mins up just due to dropped calls.

“I just switched from Cingular to Verizon. We did so...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by lwahlestedt on 22/02/2007

I just switched from Cingular to Verizon. We did so after:
1. Way too many dropped calls. Once we were at a Dolphins game and there was no network coverage. This cost us about 5 hours of trying to find each other. When there is coverage the reception is terrible.
2. We had problems with one of our phones always forwarding to another phone on our family account. I spent about 6 hours on the phone trying to fix this and it never was fixed.
3. The customer care people were extremely rude and incompetent. Once after being on the phone for 45 minutes they hung up on me and didn't return the call.

Our phone service with Verizon is much better. No more dropped calls. I haven't had to call customer service either and I guess thats a good thing.

I disagree. I switched from Verizon to Cingular about six months now and I love it. Verizon has great customer service don't get me wrong but I was getting so many dropped calls! At first I thought it was my phone then I upgraded phones and it was still happening. So I asked around and found out that two of my friends were experiencing the same thing! I live in a fairly new development and Verizon absolutely sucks in this area! I switched to Cingular and now I have no problems!

“Cingular is enormously overpriced. I work from 9 to 7...”

written by justyours on 31/01/2007

Cingular is enormously overpriced. I work from 9 to 7 and I barely have any time to talk on my cell phone. My bill, however, has come out to about $300/month for the past few months. Every time I call to complain, they say "Why didn't you check your minute usage?" The funny thing is, Cingular refers to the "minute checking service" as a "general guideline." I recently found out that their "minutes service" lags up to a FEW DAYS. Not a few hours, a FEW DAYS. The customer service rep told me they haven't upgraded it.
So, they take over AT&T, charge their customers $0.45/min for going over their amount....but they haven't updated their minute used service?
Cingular has the most useless group of customer service reps who make little notes in your account without understanding a thing you say, pretending to care, or providing any answers.

HOOAH! I totally agree. I have been with Cingular for several years and have ran into several bill related problems, one insurance problem, and you are so right about the customer service deptartment: rude, not willing to suggest the best plan for you etc. I am currently searching for a new carrier. No more Cingular/ATT for me!

The Cingular mobile phone network drops way too many calls. Billing is always correct, but it drops more than 3 calls per day. Their customer support is also bad.

If you want to pay 200.00 for a mobile phone that won't last 3 months, get charged for their gross receipts fees so they don't have to pay them, drop the majority of your calls then Cingular is the place for you!!!

Om over 90% (no exaggeration) of my calls I fail to get connected, the call is dropped and/or the reception is very poor.

Customer service is the absolute worst. They find my predicament funny. Funny!!

Good bye Cingular.

written by richtrav on 29/08/2006

Got a pay as you go phone from Cingular for my elderly father in Arizona, after being assured that there was coverage. My father told me after several weeks that he could not make calls or receive them and was told by the clerk at the local mall there, that there was no coverage in his area. When I called Cingular I was told that pay as you go phones don't have the same coverage and it was suggested that I switch to a prepaid account where I get charged monthly. The worst customer service!! They don't let you know anything until it is too late. So I have a useless phone that I might as well throw against a wall.

written by julieanon on 17/08/2006

Compared to what's out there, it's fine. The coverage is good, but be sure when you sign up with Cingular, or upgrade your service, to ask all the questions. I agreed to upgrade my service, which included a new "free" phone, but they did not tell me that I would pay for the $9 shipping or that the bonus minutes were only for a promotional period. Also, text messaging and Internet connection are extra costs. Just keep asking them, are there any other charges? Get the person's name etc. Watch out for hidden costs! Ask questions: is this only for a promotional period? Will I pay for shipping the phone? Do I have to agree to a 2 year contract? Does it cost extra to text message?

written by tomular8 on 05/08/2006

I like Cingular a lot. GSM offers the most flexibility, especially when I travel. I also like their phone selection. The service is reliable, and I barely ever experience any dropped calls.

It is kind of expensive, but prices are comparable to other carriers.

Overall, it is a good service and reliable. I would recommend Cingular.
