Such a shame to hear it closed, I repped this hotel back 04/06. Golden sun and Libra collapsing never helped this lovely hotel owing them so much money. Malia is a sadder place without the Elen hotel.

Sadly this hotel is now shut, nikos sister in law, the one who was married to yannis who died, wanted ashare of the takings, this split the family and she is dirt on the island, so much money she wanted, the hotel could not survive, i was meant to stay there again in september 3009, but the bank now own the hotel, i tracked nikos down to a reatruant in heraklion, but he was too upset to talk and i left as it was his job as a waiter, and he was working, 14 times i have stayed at this hotel, and 14 times i have memories of greatg hosts, lively bar, greta pools and cheap grub, R.I.P. THE ELEN HOTEL, IF IT OPENS UP AGAIN UNDER A NEW OWNER, I HOPE HE GETS NIKOS TO MANAGE IT, STEVEN CHAPMAN, IE CHAPPIE THE DJ FROM EDINBURGH..........

Was there again in September, still the best place to go for holiday & atmosphere. Respect for the staff for making it so memorable. Cheers to our Irish friends for all the laughs. Will be back next year.

Having been to the Elen hotel 13 times now with mates, girlfriend. The place is fab for meeting people 9even at 47) still get chatted up, there is a famous road called the beach road which has the most amazing choice of nightlife from foam parties to r&b clubs to rave and trance and a good selection of disco pubs which are the busiest ones due to people recognising the music that is played. The strip is buzzing from about 11 pm to 6 am and is the best nightlife I have experienced in my travels and I have been to every major resort in the med. Club 18-30 yes, but has club 30-60 as well for us older people, don't let that put you off as pub discos like flares cheekies and reflex all play 70's and 80's music, I suggest you start your night at the bottom of the beach road at the Electra bar, it is a bamboo covered bar with the bar staff are just nuts and that is underestimating them, the best places for food are the hotel for breakfast and omlettes, but if you fancy an excellent choice then the red lion 3/4 of the way down the strip is the best for an excellent choice of dishes, try the soup, yes the soup, you get about two tins in a plate then if you are a hungry go for the mixed grill, the red lion gets busy about 5pm to 8pm with people coming off the main beach and heading home stopping for food, so be warned you may find your self waiting for a table, even though it seats 200+, I normally hire a jeep and have toured the island, the water park is great, when you arrive you are given a wrist band and hire a locker to put you valuables in, then you can roam free and eat and drink then pay your bill when you leave as everything is charged to the barcode on your wristband, best days to go are Tuesdays, but avoid the weekends as the locals go their. If you are a regular at the Elen then lots of people go there around the august bank holiday weekend for a week and many reunions take place then with so many people turning up, it is a great place to rest during the day and party at night time, the hotel bar is situated in between the two pools and everyone meets there about 10pm before heading to the beach road about 11pm, like I say I have been 13 times to the Elen and i'm trying to get there again on or around the 26th aug2008 for another reunion, a tip for you is don't book the broucher, book a separate flight and phone to book a room, it works out cheaper, the taxi is about 45 euros each way but is cheaper if you are sharing, split the cost and it is only 25 mins in the taxi compared to the bus which drops everyone else off first. It lists the pubs clubs and what is happening. Have fun and hopefully see you at the Elen.

Why can't you go to this hotel with partner/spouse? Surely your girlfriend is technically a partner?

You couldn't ask to come to a friendlier place for your holiday, I've stayed here a couple of times but my parents have been here loads of times and love it so much have now retired in Malia and live just down the road from the Elen. They spend time at the Elen every week in season and regard the owner as a great friend. The rooms are on the basic side but the hotel in general is excellent, it has two pools with loads of loungers, a great bar area, the beach is 15 mins in one direction and the nightlife is 5 mins in the other direction so to say it's central is an understatement, great holidays are made in places like this.

The Elen Hotel is one of the most friendly and unassuming hotels I have ever been to. Been going here for more than 10 years, can't fault it, I love it, need I say more. Bad points non zero.

Elen Hotel is a wonderful place to stay, went on a lads holiday with 10 of us, for two weeks in july, IDEAL LOCATION FOR YOUNGER GENERATION TO ACCESS THE NIGHTLIFE, 2 mins up the road. all food is great in the surrounding resteraunts, I would say the best places to eat are the Red Lion at the far end of the strip, The beach road house, and the steak house. Bars recomended: Yisao (RnB), Zoo (Funky House, Dance), Bar Union (mixture of everything), Malibu and banana bar. ALso the Foam party is a right laugh, look out for it, about 20 euro for a ticket. Elen caters for all ages, and surrounding facilities and scenery (which is remarkable incidently) all can be admired by.

The Elen is part of Malia folklore. Rooms 19 and 12 are a personal recommendation. Also, generally around the time of August Bank Holiday weekend is a great time to visit as many friends of the Elen gather to enjoy the past and indeed future history being made. Great music is also played constantly by the great man, Mr Steven Chapman, a famous Edinburgh DJ. Also worth having a look at the penalty game opposite the Reflex bar down the strip... The owner, from history and Faliraki is a bloke called Careca, who'll moniker you with a famous football players name like Gary Mabbutt or Joe Jordan. Sun beach is mega, particularly on a night time.

My first impressions of the hotel was awful because the toilets are completely disgusting, it was never cleaned properly. Our bed sheets wasn't changed when we arrived at our rooms. It had lots of ants that went on the bed. Drinks are over priced. I would not recommend it for anyone to stay especially with children due to un-hygienic standards.

Yeah OK so the Elen Hotel is dated and there isn't any air con but the people are wicked and can't do enough for you. The pool has loads of loungers, so you're never stuck for a space. Food is served all day and you are 2 minutes away from the start of the Malia strip. The hotel isn't a 5 star, yet it isn't rated as that either. If your going to Malia for a clubbing holiday then it is ideal and I would definitely return.

I was very optimistic to see what this hotel was like. I had read reviews from this website and all were very good, so this put my mind at ease for a very short while until I had arrived. On arrival I was devastated about the lack of facilities in the rooms. To describe, the rooms had a double bed, single bed, toilet, sink, shower, a very tacky wardrobe, a 4ft in length balcony, a chest of drawers, two mirrors and 1 power socket. This applies to all rooms except for two of which didn't have balconies. No rooms in the hotels had air conditioning either. The heat in Malia was really warm and at night when trying to sleep the temperature was still around 25c. Staying in the hotel two nights we asked for the sheets to be changed as we had been sweating and the sheets were very dirty, the hotel staff replied that the sheets and towels only got changed after the midweek change over due to new arrivals, which is very unacceptable. We also had the bed and breakfast which we went to for the first day, to find that it only consisted of two pieces of toast and two biscuits. You can imagine that we didn't go back for that again. I have gave an actual account on all of these issues and had a good holiday trying to make the best from a bad situation. The people that run the hotel are very nice people, take them out of the Elen Hotel and out them in a hotel with decent facilities and you would have a great holiday. Taking all into account, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, but if you were going in winter for a clubbing holiday, this would be the ideal place for you.

The hotel is great, it's what you pay for and 99 quid for a week is what you pay for it. No one ever gets up for breakfast so why do a proper one? In Malia you only need a bed really. So what about the heat, you could be in England paddling instead! Malia is great! I got drunk every night, sleep it off and then lie by one of the 2 pools. So I didn't care that my room was small, I'm not exactly going to have a party in it!

It's a great family run hotel! We were a bit optimistic about the hotel before we went as there were no photos, but we were pleasantly surprised!
The owners and their staff were brilliant, it was in a central location, so we had the quiet surroundings but yet it was just a stones throw away from all the clubs and bars, they were literally round the corner from the shops and restaurants!
We had a fantastic time and will definitely be going back and I would recommend the Elen Hotel to everyone!

We met several people at Elen Hotel who had been there a few times and I would definitely go back as it offered excellent value for money. I don't understand how people can say towels etc were never changed - our sheets and towels were changed daily. We were also given the opportunity to have a room with a bath and shower in it until night time as our flight was not until late evening - at no extra cost!!

You'll never be disappointed with a trip to here. I have been 10 times over the last 15 years and its always been a great trip. These are the best Greeks you'll ever meet....can't recommend it enough and whilst the hotel might only be down as a 2 star, the 5 star people make it the difference.

The people that run the Elen Hotel in Malia are very friendly. The hotel also has good swimming pools.
We got told we were having a kitchenette in the room, but we didn't. Sheets and towels etc were never washed in the week we were staying there.
There were a lot of mixed reviews about the hotel before we went, so we took our chance, but we wish we hadn't now.

Elen Hotel is a family run hotel, Nicos, Yannis, Manos and Elen are the most wonderful people, and I have been visiting the hotel for the last ten years, 2/3 times a year, along with many other guests that return year after year....
caters for young and old, reception with pool table, TV, dining area with adjoining dining terrace, but most prefer to eat outside at the pool bar dining area, 2 pools, 1 large 1 smaller and ample well kept grass sunbed areas.
Well stocked pool bar open from early 8/9am until very late 2/3am.
If you want to visit a hotel where you feel like one of the family, this is the place.

Does anyone have any idea how far the Elen Hotel is from the Pirana Bar?? Last minute i've decided to join friends who are staying in Elen, however i'm in the Efi Hotel - apparantly near the Pirana Bar. As i've never been to Malia before, this info would be brill. Just a little concerned as to how far away the two hotels are.
<br/>Cheers
