Georgioupolis, Pilot Beach Resort

Pilot Beach Hotel Georgioupolis is an ideal place to relax with the wonderful Cretan hospitality and sunshine.

The hotel staff were outstanding from their excellent manager to the cleaning staff.We were well received and enjoyed a first class room overlooking one of 4 swimming pools.Facilities inc. Spa with indoor swimming pool and kids` club were first class.

The hotel buildings and garden were very well kept and the beach area was one of the best I have experienced. We were only 15 minutes walking distance along the beach from Georgioupolis.

Food was the weakest point as there was only one a la carte greek restaurant open for dinner with a choice of 3 main courses. They were not that good and I was a little fed up with Greek salad by the end of the week. Breakfast was in the largest restaurant area but it was a bit of a scrum.All the cooked food could have been hotter.

Some light cooked snacks would have been better than a la carte lunches or sandwiches at the beach.

My slight criticism of food apart the hotel provided us with a very enjoyable holiday. Again the Management and staff were superb.

Would have given it full marks but for:

- Temperature of food never quite hot enough.

- Slightly chaotic service at breakfast and dinner. We soon figured out what to do tho' and the staff were very pleasant, particularly if you stay calm,smile and use the odd please or thank you in Greek.

- We really prefer tea making facilities in the room. The fridge was great tho'.

On the plus side, rooms spacious, service from reception, maids, maintenance staff etc excellent. We were out of season so hotel not full which we were glad of. Scenery and grounds stunning, for once website was spot on.

Tips: hire a car. Lake Kournas is just around the corner and hiring a pedalo to see the turtles is not expensive. Tavernas there excellent value too. We preferred Rethymno to Chania but both worth a visit particularly if you want to get some souvenirs that aren't tacky.

If you want to relax, be looked after but enjoy some stunning scenery, good weather and the odd bit of sightseeing, this is the place for you.

We really enjoyed the Pilot Beach Hotel. The hotel is split into two complexes. We stayed overlooking one of the pool areas of which there are 4 but would probably ask for sea view (beachside) next time as the rooms were right on the beach.

Food is very good, buffet style although not a lot of choice for my 6 yr old daughter (enough for mum and dad though)

I would say the entertainment was quite good for 5 nights out of the 7 (it is repeated each week). We hired a car for the 2nd week and enjoyed some fabulous drives through the mountains. We especially enjoyed Elofanisi which has beautiful turquoise water (not much shade though).

The bus stops outside the hotel, one way to Reythmon and the other way Chania. Reythmon is really easy to get to and Chania a bit further.

This resort is a 5* but I would say it is more like a very good 4*. Having said that we would return tomorrow we enjoyed it so much.

Not many Brits there but that does not bother us.

We loved Crete and would definitely return there sometime in the future.
