I Got The Belkin F5d7630uk4a Router As, Quite Fran

I got the Belkin F5D7630uk4A Router as, quite frankly, I couldn't be bothered with Apples stupid expensive one.

I got it set it up in about 5 minutes, and it is an absolute doddle to use. I am a Cisco/Network engineer, and this is easier than Linksys and most of the others. The downside is that the signal is good for a given radius e.g. we cover our house just fine, but it tails off quite badly when I go outside or in my car - this could be a bonus (security).

The problems the other reviewer had are with his computer and not this equipment. The logging off problem can be easily remedied by looking at the "idle time to disconnect" option and setting it to 0 - effectively never logging off; Therefore never having to reset/restart it. I never rebooted mine for over 9 months!

The other problem I have found (only recently) is that I took it to my girlfriends (her house is hot all the time) and the router loses its connection and restarts. I think it's down to the heat of it, because it feels very hot. I read that there are places where they take the cover off and put heat sinks on the chips.

Despite the negatives. this is a top router for ADSL connections.

Belkin F5d7630uk4a Router - Purchased From E-buyer

Belkin F5D7630uk4A Router - Purchased from e-buyer.

I was expecting some issues when setting up after reading some reviews on the e-buyer website.

Tried to set up and failed, although, to be fair, I was a little deflated when a workmate told me that this router did not work with AOL after I bought it.

Anyway, phoned the Belkin helpline and sought their help. We tried once then I realised that I had entered the wrong screen name in the setup procedure (Missed 1 digit!!). At this point I think he thought I was a bit thick and tried to palm me off on AOL as he intimated that the problem was theirs!! He tried to tell me that I needed to contact AOL and request my ISP. At this point I pointed out that I already had it after the instruction requested that I have to have this to hand and write it down.

We then tried another twice, no joy!!

The third attempt saw us restore factory settings and we connected straight away!!

I am still having a few problems though and I know that I am not the only one!

When all the computers are turned off, the router loses signal (to the computers) and if you want to use it, you need to turn the router off then on (in effect re-booting it). I wanted to put it under the stairs out of the way but having to turn it off and on all the time I need to have the router within easy access.

Also, when connecting to e-bay (for example) and then going to my 'e-bay' only allows me to enter this type of site once. So, for example if I log onto my e-bay then opt to purchase something through my paypal account it basically gets to about half a bar when loading the paypal site / page then stops.

Or if I go into my ebay account, then go to come sign out of it doesn't let me.

Basically I can only go onto a site once that requires a sign in name and password. After that I need to shut down AOL, empty my temporary internet files then start again.

Maybe the settings on my PC are wrong but I certainly didn't have these problems when using a landline modem!!

If you know the answers to the above issues please drop me an email to [email protected]

Cheers
