“We have just returned from 10 days staying at the...”

written by mrkone on 09/09/2018

We have just returned from 10 days staying at the Hylatio Tourist Village. We originally chose this hotel because of its previous reviews, its true to say that people seem to have different standards and expectations of what they expect for their holiday. I will start with a couple of good points, the grounds and gardens are immaculate and kept to a very high standard thanks to a team of gardeners, however if you are not into wildlife keep your eyes peeled as there are lots of lizards and cats everywhere, A cautionary note that there are also poisonous snakes (vipers) in the grounds, we were welcomed by one on the doorstep of our cell, opps room one evening. The second good point is the swimming pool, its large and clean wit the water being tested twice a day, there are not enough sunbeds to cater for everyone so if you want one you need to be up with the lark at 6 am to secure a bed. Now for the Hotel and the staff.... The hotel is run on a daily basis by Romanian & Indian staff, who try there best but are intimidated by the owners who are constantly watching there every move and seem to delight in ordering them about, on one occasion whilst in the reception area of the hotel we heard the owner shouting at a young receptionist to the point she had to walk outside and gather herself before she could return to deal with clients. The rooms are very basic and dated to say the least, they are also very dirty, our room seemed clean on arrival but on a closer look was thick with dust, greasy surfaces around cooking appliances. We also had constant room mates in the form of an army of ants that resided under the units and would be all over the dining table and sink/ kitchen area. The bathroom was awful, a huge crack in the wall tiles led to the power/shaver socket which could not be used in case water had got inside oh and talking of water the sink tap did not work neither hot or cold water, this was reported on the first day but nothing was done, to use the sink we had to fill sink with the shower. The toilet seat and lid were stained yellow from urine and the bin in the toilet was so dirty you could not touch it. Continuing with toilet facilities the rest rooms by the swimming pool need to be condemned I have never seen such disgusting facilities, shower filthy and full of used toiletries left by clients, doors hanging off cubicles, excrement and urine around toilets bins overflowing. The public toilets for use when using the bar were not much better, there was a hike through the reception area before being directed into the bowles of the hotel along a stinking corridor into the toilets, these also were in disrepair with toilet seats missing, filthy dirty and over flowing bins. We stayed at the Hylatio on a half board basis, the food offered to guests was repeated so often you had no need for a menu, it just appeared with a different sauce covering it. There hotel are also very accommodating to the local fly and wasp population as they are allowed to settle and walk around on all the food on display and at every meal, no preventative measures are used to rid the fly's. On one occasion we decided to have lunch in the hotel instead of our usual evening meal, we were surprised to see the offerings for lunch were exactly the same things that we had for our meal the previous evening. None of the food is labeled so you have to guess what most of it is although the chef is standing watching every item that you put on your plate which is very intimidating. Breakfast again is the same thing day in day out all accompanied by the resident fly population, its also bland and tasteless, fresh fruit is offered but is often bruised or rotten, seems the good fruit is reserved for the owners when they are entertaining there many guests. The location of the Hylatio is isolated to say the least, you need to hire a car as the local bus service is unreliable. The nearest shop is a good 5-10 min walk from hotel with the main village 4.5 Km away, or a 10 euro taxi ride. There are no currency changing facilities at the hotel only in the village. There is an ATM outside but this charges 2.95 euros to use. To conclude I would say the Pissouri area of Cyprus is lovely if you want to do nothing and have very few facilities, for me I will not be returning and will NEVER be returning to the Hylatio Tourist Village.

“Could have been so much nicer!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 03/09/2012

I was impressed by the reviews of this place and it sounded like just the sort of holiday we like, but we were dissapointed with the reality. Yes, the price I paid was very good but that does not excuse the issues we found, contrary to what some regulars might suggest. A nice quiet location on the road to the beach at Pissouri (about a ten minute walk between the two) with a handful of bars, tavernas and shops nearby. The main Pissouri town itself was not within walking distance, the buses were hopeless and the taxi's operated a ten euro fixed price, over twice as expensive as those at home! Prices in Cyprus generally were very expensive if you weren't careful, for example over £10 for four single cone ice cream cornets, but this wasn't unexpected. The major dissappointment was the the accomodation which was very well worn with lots of cracked tiles, doors that didn't open properly, a shower that you could not stand under, generally very worn fixtures and fittings and taped up ends of wires (were they safe?), but worst of all were the ants. Our apartment was infested with them upstairs and down and despite our complaints this was never resolved. Air conditioning (a necessity when we went in August)was a rip off at twelve Euro's a day, or part thereof - even if it's only an hour! The Hylatio's facilities comprised of a swimming pool, a bar and an overpriced shop (those down the road were much cheaper, the end. The "entertainment" for the week consisted of a Cyprus night (four dancers with a portable cassette recorder, very funny bit not in the way they'd like) and a quiz night for an hour over dinner run by an expat. The general layout of the place was reasonable and it was kept quite clean, the staff were polite and hardworking, the food was acceptable though inconsistent, if only the owner would spend some of the very good profits on maintenance and repairs it could have been so much better, as would my my review! Note to the wise, don't fall for the all inclusive offer unless you're a lazy alcholic. We almost did but we found the local restaurants can be very good value and many had much better food on offer, the local produce can be purchased much more cheaply too, especially the and remarably good local wine, so we're glad we didn't. We have been all iclusive many times before and found some bargains in places we were happy to not to venture from, but this wasn't one of them.

written by frankatfadco on 30/06/2009

We have just returned from Cyprus and the Hylatio and in all honesty cannot recommend the experience,The management must seriously invest in better beds which are extremely hard and very uncomfortable, neither of us had a good nights sleep throughout the "holiday". There were a couple of staff rsignations during our stay which they attributed to his man-management [or lack of ] skills. The air conditioning is very expensive and must surely pay for all the electricity as well. The food is expensive and of below average quality, certainly not Normal Cyprus Standards. There is nothing in the way of entertainment unless you include the one "Greek Night" a week, again expensive and overvalued, there are better free performances in the village with better quality food.Other than the pool there is nothing for children. If you stay in ,in the evening the one option is sitting round the bar, which many do,and if you have a pool facing accommodation this could further add to your sleeplessness. The minimarket is expensive and that allied to the current exchange rate £/Euro makes this an overall disappointing experience.

“We stayed in a maisonette which was basically...”

★★★★☆

written by on 29/05/2009

We stayed in a maisonette which was basically furnished but just about adequate for S.C, we were lucky enough to have a bit of a sea view. The maid service was excellent and the rooms were always spick and span on our return. We like to travel out even though this is our 8th visit to Cyprus..and our last ...more of which later, so we didn't use the pool/bar but there were always plenty of people who did. We stayed at the sister hotel last year, the Kotzias, and came up here to use the resturant which was excellent...but don't know if it is still as good.
Travelling up to the Hylatio Tourist village at night to eat is great...there is a much better atmosphere in the square with the locals about. They even have a 'Greek Night' during summer. If you don't have a car though it will cost about 10 euros for a 3km drive. Although we like the quiet location it is somewhat remote and travelling can be a problem. If you haven't arranged a car hire prior to arrival you're limited for choice in pissouri..also beware of hiring a car without any paperwork..it will be only 3rd party and could spoil your holiday if you have a bump.
We have been to Cyprus many times but this was our last. We can't believe how it has changed in the 18 months since our last visit....people only seem friendly if you're spending money with them and the car driving...well..we put up with the arrogance of the cypriot driving for years but not this year. They seem to have no regard for visiting drivers...wooh be-tide anyone who hesitates at a junction or a road sign you will feel the full wrath of a car horn and abuse.

My wife and I have just spent a week here, it is in a very quiet spot, went with the Olympic company who look after you well, don't rent a car off the reps as you can one cheaper locally ,try next door to the diving centre. Easy access to Pathos and Limmassol, must go to Omados village in the Troodos mountains, brilliant! Beach isn't too bad and if you fancy a meal go to Lanaskis as you've probably read its very good. If you want to try the walk up to the village don't be put off we did it! and were both nudging middle age! don't get a taxi though. The walk is well worth it. Would we go back? Yes but perhaps not to Hylatio, check out the many villas and apartments first, enjoy yourselves, we did!

Just arrived back from the Hylatio and on the whole it has been a superb two week stay, The previous comment re the owner giving attention to "favourites" is valid, he makes a fuss of people who sit round his bar and spend. In the bay itself we tried all the restaurants and they all came up scratch. Yes the Limanaki was slick and modern food was superb although it felt like they were trying to maximise it's popularity by putting to many tables inside giving it a crowded feel. During day at the far end of the bay is the Agememnon beach cafe, it sells traditional food with no frills and no waiter service (you fetch and carry for yourself). The Sunday special of grilled chicken or lamb and cous cous is worth the trip but be warned don't be late or you'll miss out!
If you want the feel of Greece Perrys with the outside tables and music will probably be more to your liking.
On the bizare side we probably had one of the best Indian meals we've had right next door at, The taste of India.

written by benlepensive on 09/09/2008

We had a very relaxing break at the Hylatio Tourist Village, the staff were all friendly and fun. The short walk the beach was splendid and we were able to enjoy the part sand part shingle beach and lap up the ocean waves. Even the floating waste while we swam didn't deter us!
The selection of restaurants is just right. We liked Perry's and the Captain's Bay, though Kastro should be avoided. We had to wait 45 minutes for the bill and were ignored by the staff despite being the only customers there.
Monarch Airlines was horrendous. 4 hour delay flying out, lack of leg room.
Our rep was lovely, praises to her. Overall a very good holiday

Hylatio Tourist village is the best place I have stayed when SC in Cyprus. I find the Complex Very Very Very clean, rooms excellent and staff are very friendly and most helpful. They do an excellent job and if you want a quiet place Hylatio Tourist Village In Pissouri is 5***** in my eye's.
I can't wait for my next visit on 01/10/2008 for 14nts of bliss and peaceful nights. ( But I did get a hire car as it's needed to explore more of Cyprus). You can also hire a car from the complex.
I LOVE HYLATIO TOURIST VILLAGE. Keep up the good work. see the site below for more info.

written by charlie cooper on 12/07/2008

We have just returned from a two week holiday at the Hylatio resort and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The resort far exceeded my expectations and is excellent for the price we paid. It is clean and modern and the maizonette we stayed in had everything we needed for a self-catering holiday.

The pool is large and clean with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for people to use. We didn't find the staff particularly friendly, especially the owner who seemed to make a fuss of his favourites and ignore everyone else. However the Olympic holidays rep was very friendly and approachable and was extremely helpful on the occasions that we had to go to her.

We were disappointed that nobody told us that air conditioning had to be paid for and when we checked out at the end of the week we were charged 170 euros for the use of air conditioning throughout our stay. I could have accepted the cost if we had been informed before we started using it but we felt they were a bit under handed by not telling us. Plus the air conditioning wasn't very good, so we paid 12 euros a day for the room to stay uncomfortably hot anyway, so watch out for that.

Pissouri itself is lovely, although very quiet. We spent a lot of our time on the beach which is part sand part shingle but very nice. The restaurants in the bay and all very similar but very nice, we would particularly recommend the Indian restaurant.

All in all an excellent holiday and we would definitely return.

The whole holiday at the Hylatio Tourist Village was fantastic, The resort of Pisouri is great if you just want a week to chill out. There isnt much to do and its a better holiday if you dont have children as there isnt much for them to do. There are some good restaurants in the area, the best in our opinion was Limanaki, the food and service were superb.
We booked this holiday very last minute, and weren't disappointed.

The staff at the Hylatio Tourist Village in general were amazing, kind and helpful. It was a lovely resort and it was a really enjoyable holiday. The restaurants inside and outside in the pool bar eating area where nice. I would love to go back there. The only thing that let it down was the sun beds, as many people didn't have anywhere to sit and relax, other than that, it was an amazing holiday.

★★★★★

written by Lisa and Beth Farrar on 10/03/2007

The welcome from the owners at Hylatio Tourist Village in Pissouri was so friendly and warm, that it felt like we were at our second home. This was our sixth visit to Hylatio, so we were relaxed and in holiday mode as soon as we stepped off the minibus.

We usually spend all day relaxing around the pool, and then toddle down to the village for a meal in the evening. But this year we were pleased to see that the owners had built the restaurant 'Ammos'. We enjoyed the food very much, and even our children aged ten and thirteen enjoyed it. Their favourite was the baby chicken, which melted in your mouth. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, well presented and the service was excellent. We also thought the prices were very reasonable.

If you like a quiz and some mouth-watering barbecue food, then go to 'quiz night'. The whole family enjoyed a good value for money evening, and made some new friends.

We cannot wait to get back there for our next summer holiday.

we first went there 6 years ago with our 2 year old, and everyone was so friendly. We met couples that go back year after year. And at the end of the fortnight, we decided we didn't want to go anywhere else again. So we go back at the same time every year and meet our friends. The owner of the Hylatio Tourist Village in Pissouri is a lovely, helpful man, and he makes a huge fuss of my children. My son caught an ear infection while we were there, and the rep was very helpful and got us in to see a specialist immediately. It is a very child friendly place!!

I can't recommend it enough. Hylatio Tourist Village is an excellent hotel, in a wonderful resort for older people. No good to kids as there is nothing for them to do. An excellent choice of restaurants, both in the resort of Pissouri and in the stunning village at the top of the hill. Long may it stay this way.

“We booked this as a last minute holiday after...”

★★★★★

written by penny260 on 21/10/2006

We booked this as a last minute holiday after searching the internet for deals, and then looking at the Hylatio Tourist Village web site, and the Review Centre for reviews of the complex. The descriptions on both sites were accurate, and we weren't disappointed with our holiday in Pissouri.

The only thing which confused me was the description of the owner as great fun and a welcoming host. He didn't speak to us once, even though we visited the bar nearly every evening in the two weeks we were there. There seems to be a pattern in the reviews in that he is good fun during peak season, but ignores people off peak. The staff more than made up for it, as they were very friendly and efficient. The light bulb above our kitchen table wasn't working, but we weren't concerned as there were lots of other lights in the studio, so we mentioned it the next time we were at the bar and the barman insisted in replacing it himself immediately.

The complex is a short walk from the centre and the beach, and there is a good selection of restaurants, my favourites being Perrys and Kastro's.

Pissouri Bay is indeed remote, and unless you only want to lie by the pool or on the beach and go on organised trips, car hire is essential, as there aren't any buses. I hired one from Perry in his restaurant, and I was pleased with the car and the booking conditions.

We didn't believe the walk up the hill to Pissouri Village could be that hard, so we tried it one morning, and we must admit it was. We reached some villas and thought we were there, but there was another even steeper hill round the corner, so we collapsed into the nearest bar at the top. Coming back down was OK though.

Overall, we had an excellent holiday and would go back.

Pissouri bay is small and quiet, with about ten restaurants, all of a good standard and very friendly. One bar was very quiet when we were there. There are 3 shops (quiet expensive). Pissouri town has a few restaurants, and the 3 bars in the centre are also of a good standard. There are a few supermarkets (cheaper).

In our opinion it is a nice, quiet relaxing bay and village, but there are better beaches a few minutes drive away from the Hylatio Village, so a car is a must, but be warned there is a lot of construction in Pissouri bay.

“We arrived and wondered what we had done. There are...”

★★★☆☆

written by cyprus traveller on 27/09/2006

We arrived and wondered what we had done. There are some unfinished buildings at the front. We were greeted by owner and given a drink.

The pool and studios look great, and they are, but I caught an ear infection from the pool, and so did others. The studios are kept really well, and the maid comes in nearly every day.

One thing I would moan about is that the steps into the village are not finished, and they can be quite a dangerous tripping hazard. I can't understand why they are constructing new apartments and a shop when the steps haven't been finished to the entrance.

We read a review before going, saying that if you don't spend there you get shunned. I kept an open mind to this and gave them a chance, but it is totally true. If you don't spend loads of your money there you are given the cold shoulder. We found things to be really expensive there, and we hired a car and went to large stores to get our foodstuffs, which saved us a lot of money.

You will need to hire a car if you want to get out and about, as there is very little to see there, though it is nice, but very quite. We found that Pissouri Village on the hill was far nicer in the evening to relax.
