Been going here for years, but after last visit neither myself or any of my family will ever visit again. No atmosphere anymore and food quality is terrible

Excellent service as usual . Since recent revamp the food seems 'lighter' if that means anything! Decor again much improved and more modern.
Live singer is not intrusive and will sing requests .
Overall a much improved experience so ignore older reviews .
Will definately be returning soon.

I recently went to the Ancora with my mum for lunch. I'm a fussy eater so asked for something that wasn't on the menu as such and they did not hesitate to help me out. The meal I had was delicious and very filling. I went back the following week on a Sunday and had the Sunday roast dinner. It was very tasty. Especially the roast potatoes. Would deffinitley go back again.

Ata at Ancora last week with a party of friends,we were a bit akward at times, but the staff were nothing but brillient. Food was plentiful and hot plenty of choice.previuos posts said it was overpriced? go and eat in local pubs and see if it is any cheaper!! ( and you dont get the service or indeed the size portions). We all left full ( and a bit squiffy)and will be returning as soon as we can
Go and try it yourself, do not listen to others!!!!

As a regular customer at the Ancora I was disappointed to read some of the reviews. The restaurant was re decorated last year and is bright and clean. The food is always excellent - cooked fresh to order with a huge selection to suit all dietary requirements. Staff are friendly and helpful. As for value for money - when you consider sunday lunch is only £16.50 for 3 courses and coffee and is fresh with plenty of veg and plenty of choice, it beats many of the local carveries, pubs and so called bistros hands down. I would recommend it to anybody for any occasion.

Had a child recently and first time out in a while. Thought we would go to one of our old haunts, Ancora. Was really looking forard to it but bitterly disappointed. Decor looks much more tired and grubby than before. Food was poor and we waited ages for our main meal. Whilst the staff were as friendly as they used to be they had not accomodated for the large party they had in for their speciality night. We had to therefore wait for them all to be served their starter before we got our main meal. When steak arrived it was chewy and the lamb was tasteless. If we had not waited so long for the meal and had to get home for our babysitter we would have sent it back. The decor and the fact there is no parking used to be compensated for with the good quality food and service but unfortunately Ancora fell down on all counts.

Had a meal with the family on 7th March 2010, bit reluctant to go as I have been reading the reviews, but my Mum lives locally and has been before. Was very surprised how much I enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere was good, food was excellent along with the service. Will be going back later in the year for a family birthday party evening.

Over Priced and cramped. Not helpful at all when we had a problem with the food. Won't be going back there in a hurry

The Ancora is a dated, wanaby classy restaurant with food to match. Staff friendly but food overpriced and overated. If you've dined at a classy restaurant - the differences are obvious. Won't be paying a second visit.

Ancora Restaurant, Hadleigh, has superb food, warm welcome, nothing too much trouble, Consistency. Great Value. We eat out regularly, both on our own and often with a group of friends, so dine in lots of various restaurants across Essex. The Ancora is "our favourite". Always guaranteed a great dining experience. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, who welcome you as if you were their most treasured customer. It is like home from home. Great home cooked food at very affordable prices. 3 course Sunday lunch including coffee for less than £17.00. Never a problem if you want extra bread, vegetables or coffee, you are never charged any extra. This has become our major "grumble" in other establishments, whereby you pay a rather hefty price for the "meat / fish" element of your meal, and then have to pay extra for some vegetables. None of this at The Ancora. No hidden extras. Yes, the restaurant could maybe do with a freshen up decor wise, but the most important factor is receiving good quality food, good value and a great atmosphere from superbly trained staff.

Would recommend Ancora Restaurant, Hadleigh to anyone. There is a very good choice , particularly if you are veggie. The food is fresh and hot and the service is excellent. Excellent Food, huge choice, Good portion sizes and value for money. Service is excellent. Decor slightly tired but , the food more than makes up for this.

Had a warm welcome at Ancora, Hadleigh, good food and not rushed. But I thought it was a bit dated and worn in the back room especially. Needs some redecoration and softer lighting. Good points were quality and portions. Good value too.

Like some other comments made, the Ancora in Hadleighit is a good family restaurant, where the staff appear genuinely to care for their customers. I for instance requested to purchase one of their pint glasses, and asked for it to be added to the bill, but they supplied it free, and when the glass got broken, they supplied another free as well. Great sense of humour all round.

A great restaurant with excellent menu and trained staff. Everything fresh - no pre packaged food here. Sunday lunch is under 17 pound for three courses and coffee!! Better value than all the local pubs. Well worth a visit if you appreciate good food properly served.

Ancora is my favourite restaurant where I go with friends, family and work colleagues. Good food is guaranteed as are friendly welcoming staff. Its a pleasure to be treated properly, have linen tablecloths and fresh food that is silver served to you at the table (none of that mass produced rubbish that so many other restaurants palm you off with). A real treat of a restaurant. Nothing is too much trouble, one of my friends is coeliac and another is a veggie and they have been accommodated without hassle. Highly recommended (especially the great selection of fish!).

We read all the glowing reviews and booked 2 weeks ago as we understood tables are difficult to book. Firsly we were shocked at how old the decor is. It was like an old persons living room. Even the toilet had a drip rug! Euwww!. The menu was varied and well written, maybe a bit flowered up? The food itself was nothing special. I wouldn't say it was bad but i have had better and paid much less for it. 2 starters, 2 bottles of house wine, 2 main courses + 1 portion of cheese board (a very small slice of each variety measured about 1" x 2" each piece) and the whole lot came to £96.00. The desert menu was brought up seperately from the main menu and had no prices. When I asked, I was told they were all £4.75 each, apart from the cheese board which was £5.25! £5.25 for about 5 small slices of cheese and a hand full of cheap crackers. I was very unimpressed. I didn't leave a tip. The main bulk of the customers looked over 60 and knew the staff well so i imagine they have been being ripped off for years!. I wont be going there again. Bar Latino on the other side of the one way system was much better.
