“Terrible overall experience!!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 29/01/2019

Short story – ordered 2 sofas one to arrive within 4-6 weeks and the other 13 weeks. The store ordered both sofas for 13 weeks (the sales person’s error) and we were left without a sofa for 13 weeks. No compensation, there was no call back(s) after being told there would be and no solution. And then further issues to add to my poor customer journey. Long-story. The store salesperson was aware we needed a sofa as soon as we could due to us moving to a new house and not taking our old sofa with us. They were made aware we have 2 young children and ideally needed something as soon as we could (which is why we opted to purchase another sofa and have this delivered quicker). We were prepared to be without a sofa for the 4-6 weeks. It was not until the 6 weeks were up that after calling the store and Harvey’s customer services to get a delivery date we found out the error. If you make an order in store the online team cannot help, you have to speak to the store. Which is great if you can get through to someone and if they actually sound like they want to help. Ridiculous that a large company does not have a centralised system. After numerous correspondence with what Harvey’s calls customer services (spanning a couple of months) I emailed the CEO as the responses I received were not satisfactory. Customer services did not answer my questions, nor do they really understand how compensation works. They claimed compensation was given to us, this was the 10% extra off store offer they had going on (something which any customer could receive as was standard during the promotion). The CEO passed on my email to customer services where they contacted me to let me know they will investigate and get back to me within 7 days. Guess what 8 days and nothing. So I emailed them to say I will take this to the ombudsman. Which I did, and the Ombudsman ruled in my favour. 28 days after the Ombudsman’s ruling Harvey’s had still not contacted me in regard to compensation. I waited a further week before I contacted the ombudsman to let them know nothing has happened. They said they have contacted Harvey’s urgently to make them aware. Another 3 weeks after that I have still not had any contact. Looks like Harvey’s will not honour what I have been told they have agreed to. I am yet to contact the ombudsman again, what can they really do! As we had cancelled the sofa which was due to arrive in 4-6 weeks Harvey’s would not consider that in anyway. I had never asked them to and they mentioned that they allowed us to cancel the sofa. Well of course considering it was their error and they did not deliver as they had agreed to. I was waiting for this to all end before writing my review however I do not believe that they have any intention of contact. Such a shame. And now I’ve rambled on just so I can get this off my chest. The only reason I haven’t given 1 star is that the 13-week sofa was delivered on time and 3-4 months later is in good condition. Even though the delivery person forced one part through the front door slightly scratching it.

“WARREN RECLINER SOFA. Read this before you buy”

★★☆☆☆

written by DamionLewis on 17/06/2017

bought 3 seater recliner middle cushion lies back, looks auwful but had 2 opinions from harveys . it can be fixed just keep pushing it forward, good FIXED they say until the next time someone sits on it then just push it forward again repeat this every time. Not good. Not a happy customer but have been assured this how they should be, the 2nd opinion had a different story and told me the end 2 seats will sit back in a few years so all will be well, now just wait 2 years. It did look fine at 1st but getting worse as time goes on just don't know how it will end. Its a shame because it did look really nice when I got it. So think very carefully before you buy. Don't look at reviews on Harvey's website because I wrote a few and they haven't put them up so guessing they only put good reviews up.

Don't bother purchaseing the 5year protection plan, after moving my furniture due to a new floor been fitted. The frame and cushion have moved too. I have to pay yet another 45pound for a report to find out if it's the manufacturer fault. I think I was miss sold this insurance.

I am having the same problem with harveys about a tear on the front of my sofa. I took out the 5 year protection plan and wish I hadn't!. They sent a guy from guardsman to check out the fault and immediately said I was not covered for this as it was a manufacturing fault. I rang harveys customer service and have been told that I will need to get an indepedent report at a cost of 48 pounds. I am going to put a comment on their Facebook page, if no joy trading standards.

“Lost my sofa”

★★☆☆☆

written by dyDickey194 on 22/11/2016

I ordered a 7 seater corner suite on 23rd of August and was told the order would take 13 weeks. I received a text from them last week to say my sofa would be delivered between 7 and 1pm yesterday (monday 21st). On Saturday, I received a call from someone in their warehouse saying that when they have gone to load my sofa on the lorry, they could not find it although they confirmed that according to their computer system it was definitely received. I called their Customer Services, and they informed me that the warehouse was now closed, and it would not be investigated until yesterday. I called yesterday afternoon to ask for an update, but was told they are still trying to find it. I called them again this afternoon, only to be told the sofa is "missing" and they had not been able to find it, and they would have to order another sofa, which means another 13 week wait. They told me they would call my local Harveys, who would lend me a suite until our arrives. They have promised me 2 x 2 seater sofas and an armchair in brown. Not the colour we wanted but it would be ok for the time being. I am absolutely furious as they have had over £2000 of my money since August, and when we finally get the sofa they will have had our money for 6 months. I really don't recommend anyone uses Harveys. I won't ever buy from them again.

“Wrong fabric!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by Collier33 on 08/04/2016

Having waited 12 weeks for a new (not cheap!!) dining room table, 4 chairs and a bench with seat pad, I am thoroughly disappointed to find that two of the chairs have different seat fabric to the one I ordered and the bench cushion is also different :-( Delivery was as advised and on time and the drivers were helpful and polite. I have phoned customer services who do not seem in too much of a hurry to help me out - apparently they have to get in touch directly with the supplier so I am in limbo - have paid in full so I guess they won't be in a rush!!! I might be doing them a disservice but, judging by the other reviews on here, I hadn't better hold my breath!!! Oak Furnitureland and their own Sofa Store on the other hand have been excellent from start to finish - would thoroughly recommend them.

“Delivery of furniture Poor”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 15/05/2015

Ordered a Noir dining table & chairs in late Jan this year 2015, from Harvey's in Cardiff. Just received delivery today 11th May after waiting 4 months appalling delivery service no communication for point of order apart from a text to say when they would be delivering the item. I had to chase the company on several occasions on the day of delivery as they promised delivery in the morning between 7am & 1 pm but to no avail. Nobody rang me back with an update from H/Q until I chased the store direct then an hour later the delivery driver rang me to say he would be with me within half an hour that was @ 3.30 pm. Rang customer services the following day to register my complaint spoke with a lady who was helpful & understanding, she offered to cover the transport cost I incurred of £20 which was some consolation to the stressful day awaiting delivery. Would I buy again from Harvey’s not sure? But would say that I have bought in the past & everything has been fine. Would consider other options first but if I recommended Harvey's then I would make sure that the I's are dotted & T's crossed next time around. Many Thanks John form Cardiff

“Wrong colour delivered”

★★☆☆☆

written by Snowdrop2 on 14/05/2015

Ordered a leather three seater and two seater Pearl leather suite 16 weeks ago. We were pleased when Harveys rang and told us it was in and would be delivered today. Delivery men brought in the three seater first then asked if we had ordered a different colour for the two seater only the one they brought in was a greeny grey colour. Not the one we had ordered, they suggested we keep and use it and get Harveys to reorder the correct colour. My husband rang customers services but was kept waiting so long he decided to ring our local store, he was then put through to customer services and was told that the correct colour was ordered so hang on to the wrong colour one and they would get it reordered. My husband then rang the manager of the store he got to speak to him eventually and was told he would try and track our order down as it must be somewhere as the right colour had been ordered. I am hoping we are going to be given some good news over the next day or two as surely there must be someone in the UK who like us have had the wrong colour two seater settee delivered. Please don't let us down Harveys you are very quick to take your money so let's hope you will be as quick to rectify this mess up.

“Delivery Issues! ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Alexandere313 on 07/04/2015

We bought two three-seater leather sofas from Harveys in January, before moving into our new house. We explained the situation to the sale assistant who told us that it was not a problem and we could change the delivery address at a later date. We were debating over the colour, so he told us he would put it in as black and that we could change it when we confirmed the new delivery address, which we did about 2/3 weeks later. He told us it would take 12-16 weeks. When we phoned up at 12 weeks to get a delivery date, a different assistant told us that when we changed the address and colour it reset the order so we now had to wait at least an extra month! It was not made clear to us that changing the address or colour would reset the order. Very disappointed and upset. Yet to receive a delivery date.

“Delivery Staff Poor customer Skills”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 22/09/2014

Having shopped at harveys 10 years ago, I thought I'd return, as the quality and service used to be excellent. The staff instore were excellent (Doncaster Branch). The delivery was arranged well with excellent communication regarding approximate arrival on the morning of delivery. However, the one of the delivery Staff tried to talk me out of having my furniture assembled, and emphasised the large amount of deliveries that he had to get done...which made me feel uncomfortable...afterall...i had paid harveys premium on the understanding that my furniture would be assembled. There was a problem with my furniture, so a second delivery was required. Yet again I felt uncomfortable and that the staff didn't have the time, for what was harveys fault...not mine. Out of the 4 delivery Staff, not 1 was English, and some of them need to learn some customer service, because I'm sure if they made me feel uncomfortable...then others must have too. Because I felt so uncomfortable, there are still some problems with my furniture. I have nothing against foreign workers. However, I don't like ignorance and it seems funny that All the delivery Staff were foreign. Is it because Harveys are expecting too many deliveries from their workers???. Either way, Harveys have lost my future custom, as when you spend a few thousand on furniture...you expect to be treated like a valued customer

“Harveys - very poor indeed”

★★☆☆☆

written by FrustratedofCambridge on 09/09/2014

I placed at the Cambridge branch of Harveys on 28th May 2014 for a dining table, 4 chairs and a dresser. I was told that the order would take up to 9 weeks to be delivered. The table and sideboard with the glass display top were both duly delivered on the 27th July, but at this point I was told that the chairs would be delivered separately, although no delivery date could be confirmed. Shortly after this, I was informed, after making numerous phone calls to the store, to Head Office and via an online chat, that the company supplying the chairs had gone into administration and it was impossible to tell me when I would receive them. I was then contacted to say that they would be delivered on 9th September. It's the 9th September today and still no chairs.... it's a long story and I can't even be bothered to go into it all, except to say I am VERY VERY angry. By this date, I would have been without chairs for 7 weeks after the delivery of the table. The table and dresser are just what I wanted but as for Customer Service - I am appalled that a company can treat customers in such a way. They are promising me compensation but it was like getting blood out of a stone... watch this space... DO NOT BOTHER GOING TO THIS STORE!!

“Bailey Leather Sofas”

★★☆☆☆

written by Kepler66 on 25/06/2014

We bought two Bailey leather sofas at Christmas 2013. They were almost the most expensive with the best leather and one with electric recliner action. After a 3 month wait the first pair arrived damaged. The corners of the seat base unit had been scuffed and on one corner the stitching had been ripped. The sofas were rejected and a second pair ordered. These have just arrived also scuffed but, thankfully, with no stitching damage and it has been possible to repair them. The delivery team also forgot to remove the shipping blocks from the electric recliners, which I had remove myself. Harveys offered me a 10% discount to cover the inconvenience, which brings the overall cost down to the current price on their web site!!(June 2014). Fundamentally, the packaging of the Bailey sofas is totally inadequate to avoid damage in transit. The base units in particular are placed in flimsy cardboard cartons with only a single sheet of corrugated cardboard for protection. The cartons have up arrows but the Harveys delivery team ignore them. If Harveys can't be bothered to protect the furniture in transit they clearly have no regard for the quality of the product or for the customer who ends up with it. Think for a moment how a TV is packaged - big sturdy box, masses of shock absorbent packaging particularly on the corners. What do we get for a sofa costing twice as much? A flimsy carton and a sheet of cardboard - no corner protection at all. My suggestion - buy furniture from a company that has respect for its own products.

“Check only. 24hr cancellation mayflower store rude ”

written by Porter1953 on 11/06/2014

Given a week for delivery rug £200 paid in full in store. Given following wed delivery rang store to confirm they said wouldn't be delivered for 3-4weeks which would have changed my mind about purchasing the salesperson I spoke to was rude abrupt and spoke over me in a condisending way which often happens when you are a woman. So I complained to customer services head office they checked delivery and said the order had just been received that morning so would be 3 to 4 weeks no apology for hold up in a week to put order through reciting 24hr cancellation when I asked for refund . This rug was sold under false information of only a weeks delivery when in reality took a week for order to go through head office was of no help and still refuse refund when a date for delivery was still not forthcoming. Wish I had looked at reviews online as most furniture stores have 2 weeks cancellation notice. Live and learn don't go to Harvey's.

THE SUITE WOULD LOOK YEARS OLD, THE INSIDES ARE MADE OF THE KIND OF FIBRE FILLING IN PILLOWS SO OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO FLATTEN, AND THEY ARE MADE IN CHINA, THAT SAYS IT ALL. WE ARE WORRIED THAT IT IS NOT FIREPROOF AFTER THE POOR REPORTS ON TV. AVOID IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A SUITE THAT LASTS LONGER THAN A YEAR.

“Melissa suite with footstool”

★★☆☆☆

written by Grahamco67 on 05/04/2014

Harveys Melissa suite didn't have enough stuffing in arms or back and footstool top was puckered. Technician came out and put blocks of stuffing in resulting in bulky, uneven backs and new footstool cover was loose so he stuffed it making it grossly mis-shapen. He left the footstool with 8" gap where he failed to staple it back together. Customer services appalling. Wrote to CEO at head office and included photos. He hadn't the good grace to reply as letter came from customer services. Said matter closed as 2nd technician said repair was acceptable! If I had purchased a "cheap" suite would have been different as you "get what you pay for". Over £2000 for this suite it is a disgrace and Harveys should hang their heads in shame, especially the CEO who hadn't the guts or good manners to reply to my letter which had photos included. It beggars belief that he says matter closed as he must be blind. I doubt he would accept the footstool in it's current state(approx £500) in a raffle prize as it looks as though it was made by amateurs.

Although not completely Harvey's fault, my 19 year old daughter has been completely intimidated and terrified by delivery guy's today, asking her if she was home alone, was she alone for valentines day and comments about her attire. Luckily friendly plumber turned up at house during this, but am very concerned about standard of delivery personnel and may still inform teh police. Transport dept apparently investigating the incident. So- word of warning - do not leave vulnerable females waiting for delivery, as Harvey's cannot guarentee the standard of delivery driver. Really taken the shine off getting my new table and chairs.

“Padua Dining Table”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 05/12/2013

We purchased this dining table over 5 years ago, just recently we noticed that one of the legs were loose, we noticed that the leg had actually snapped where it is connected to the table top which is only held with two screws,we contacted the store where we bought it and spoke to the manager,he basically said "what do you want me to do about it" and "we don't stock that table anymore", he then proceeded to tell us that he has some good deals on dining tables, the bloody cheek of the man. All we wanted to know is who supplied them with this particular table so we could contact them to see if we could purchase another table leg from them. I feel like taking the table leg and shoving it where the sun doesn't shine. Will not purchase anything else from them, absolute dire customer service.

Ordered 2 sofas and a chair from Harveys in the sales on the 5th January 2013,was told 14 weeks approx. 16 weeks later goods were delivered by which time I was fed up with the waiting. The shop staff were pleasant the delivery guys also nice, the sofas are solid and comfy and the chair well upholstered, I dont think they will last like our previous suite but they were reasonably priced, would not have payed the inflated price they show before the sales. I cannot for the life of me understand why as customers we have to wait so long for furniture today is this called dare I say progress?

I bought a 3-piece suite from Harveys, and it went faulty within 11 months. They refused to honour their obligations under the warranty, and I took them to small claims under the legal grounds that the sofa was not fit for its intended purpose, it had a shorter life than could be reasonably expected, and their refusal to address the warranty issue. I was awarded a default decree as Harveys did not even bother to fight it. When I wrote to Steinhoff Retail UK Ltd (the company which owns Harveys) asking for payment, they filed a notice to ask the court to set aside the decree - however the court did give me an opportunity to object to their notice. On the court date, they sent a guy over, and we were able to agree that if Harveys gave a full refund including court costs, I would agree that the decree be set aside. Harveys will wriggle to avoid their obligations, but when they are wrong legally, they will back down. Good luck

Why is it when the delivery men who took my two 3 seater settees in to my home on the 4/9/2014 and notice both settees had been damaged they took a photo of both damaged settees and supposed to reported it back to Harveys. Like fools we trusted them, when I phoned their Customer care service two days after delivery they said they have no information about it, I have phoned again today 11/9/2014, they said again they have no details of me even phoning on the 4/9/2014, I would like to know what game they are playing by not keeping records? What should I do next? We will not buy from Harveys again if this is not sorted.

The cudtomer service directot was very helpful but he has now left the company. All I can suggest is that you keep on and on to them till you get the result you want hope this helps regards

Unfortunately it seems harveys are not what they used to be...in my experience anyway. Nearly all the delivery men were polish or similar. They couldnt wait to get away and kept telling me they had lots of deliveries to get through, to make me feel guilty about having my table assembled...which was included in the price i paid! A second delivery was a struggle for one of the two that came. Even though my setee came in three separate ssections, one of the guys kept dropping it. My front door and meter boxes are a right mess, covered in black marks that wont come off, due to scraping it through, even though i told them they could go through the rear french doors if they wanted. Its a wonder that my setee wasnt damaged to be quite honest. I went back to harveys after a good experience 10 years ago. UnfoUnfortunately, i will look elsewhere in future

Why do Harvey's advise customers buying a light coloured fabric sette that it will suffer dye transfer from clothes which will never come out? Our sette looked terrible after a very short time. We were told that it was because we had been sitting on it!

Hi there. This companies after sales service is terrible. I know so many people who have had issues with their sofas. We ordered a sofa and when it was delivered the two end cushions on the 3 seater were clearly flat lower than the middle one. They looked used. When we contacted Harvey's they sent one if their so called 'Experts' round. All he said was its because we have been sitting on the end cushions. Unbelievable as we had only had it a week. These experts Are just sent to tell you anything to try and put you off escalating your complaint. They are given training in the Harvey's head office on what to say to customers. I had to threaten legal action to get anything done. Keep escalating a sofa should look shabby after a short period of time.

Our sofa was damaged when it was "repaired" the outcome was they didn't care! Phone calls after phone calls to be told "they wouldn't help as it was wear and tear" how they got to that outcome is unbelievable the sofa was 8weeks old now 12 months on the sofa is ready for the tip!!! £1200 not well spent!

Our dining table started chipping and got faded patches on it after only a year. Harvey's didn't want to know; just said it was not their fault. It wasn't a cheap dining table and I'm still very cross about it. We'll never buy anything from them again and would always advise anyone else not to either.
