Starters were okay ( white bait Calamari and scampi ) only critism was that the batters were heavy (onion rings, calamari etc) . ,The main courses were FANTASTIC ! The steaks were melt -in -the-mouth tender and the au poivre sauce fresh made and divine. My husband's rate T bone was outer charred to perfection. Puddings were disappointing -only restaurant made one was creme caramel which was pale (sugar syrup not caramel) and heavy as a brick of egg custard- nasty. Staff were charming and efficient. Décor looks untouched since 1973- heavy gloss bland Not good for photo posting! When all is said on reelection We'd go back for steaks in a heart beat.

We have neen going to Othello for five years since we moved to the area. It is the place we always take visitors and have never been let down. The food is fantastic, generous portions and a great selection which is of a consistent high standard. I love fish and my husband loves steak, I would highly recommend both. The main course tends to come very quickly after the starter which we have got used to but if that doesn't work for you, make sure to tell them when you place your order as the food is freshly prepared. Be aware the portions are very generous, something to be aware of when ordering side dishes. The waiters are old school and wonderful. Although efficient they never make you feel rushed no matter how busy....

We have used Othello's on and off for 15 years but on Sat 12th Sep 2009 we had booked a table for 8.30pm for our 12th wedding anniversary. On arrival it looked busy so we had a drink at the bar, but did not sit at our table until just after 9pm, not a good start. We had two courses and with the main we ordered a side salad, it came with a mustard dressing which we had not asked for, or had not been told about, most of the waiters looked quite glum. After this we called someone over and all his excuse was that he had staff on holiday and that they where busy. i suggested that if you have staff on holiday that you keep bookings to a managable amount, as this detracts from what is usually a good dining experience.

Very friendly restaurant. Good choice of food and wines. Families made welcome. Staff helpful. Large portions. Fresh food.
I would recommend The Othello Taverna in Upminster.

I have been to The Othello Taverna restaurant a few times now and everytime the food is just amazing, the fillet steak in my opinion, is the best anywhere in Essex, thick, tender and full of flavour and when you ask for rare you actually get rare!
The waiters are very helpful friendly and polite and the prices are very fare considering the quality of the food.
Will be going back for sure!
