Bought VIVARO in 2005 from vauxhall with 27'000 on the clock, powerful & carries weight well, looks as though the gearbox is to refined for the van at 67'000 6 years later on hearing a change to the gear motions i subsequently had the bearings changed in the box and new clutch fitted cost £1200 (good price) some charge up to £3000, about two year ago my steering pump went i suppose this might be expected but i now need another as when sitting with engine on it is idle making it hard to park… Read Full Review

Vauxhall vivaro sportive 2.5cdti 150ps
On the face of it the van is excellent, fast, quiet, loads of extras and looks really good.
Have owned the van from new and have done 32000 miles. In this time the van has put itself in limp home mode a total of 7 times. Each time the van needs an oil and filter change due to 'poor oil quality'. Apparently this is due to it needing to regenerate but regen light has never been on!
The Vauxhall dealer thinks there is something wrong with it but Vauxhall…

Take them to Court under the Sales of Goods Act. Tell them you are doing that and claiming consequential losses. They will soon get it sorted. I did this and ended up having a full refund on a faulty two year old car.

A tip from the trade, Change the oil yourself using a genuine manufacturers oil filter and a very high quality oil such as Millers fully synthetic in the correct grade, only use top grade diesel DO NOT USE SUPERMARKET GRADE DIESEL do all this before it goes into limp mode/light comes on. Diesel wash down the bores on the 2.5L CONTAMINATES THE OIL! not so much of a problem on 1.9L and all should be well. If and its a big if it goes again then its most probably a engine bay wiring loom intermitant fault (renault) have problems finding this

Bought a Vauxhall Vivaro van 8months ago second hand, 04 plate with 40,000 miles on it for £4500. Just started having problems with it the last few days, with the gears. It has started to fall out of gear and the gears make a screeming noise. Took it to Vauxhall to, and the quote to repair it is £3800. Needs new gearbox and clutch and also a clutch slave. I would never buy one again… Read Full Review

I second this. I saved hard for 5 years and decided to buy a 52 plate vivaro which was my first van and a sign to myself that i must be doing well in business, a reward if you like. I paid £3000 with 122000 miles on the clock, 6month later the gearbox broke. I had read about gearbox issues with the vivaro and believed that this would never happen, the chances... but it did and was £1500 lighter with a new box. 6 months later the 2nd flaw with my vivaro struck and the turbo blew and trashed the engine and that was the end of that.
The truth is that the rumours are true and they can happen to you too regardless of mileage and age

The 1.9 dti 6 speed model Vauxhall Vivaro Mini Bus is the one to have with plenty of room in the rear and a good long distance drive they have ajustable hight seats and in and out steering wheel. Try and get one with electric windows if poss as winders catch on drivers seat if to high.
Beware of LOW milage gearbox leaks. The main shaft oil seals tend to go on the 6 speed models and spray the clutch plate with gear oil, so get that engine warm and check for leaks. Also try and take them on a…

I own a 2.5 sportive on a 57 plate, done 27k miles and owned from new. I have been experiencing exactly the same problems, service light comes on first approx 3k miles after oil change/service and Van then goes into limp home mode, which Vauxhall say needs another oil change £230!!!! and its my driving!! After much hastle vauxhall finally agreed to pay on 2 previous occassions, it has happened again today, but what happens when warranty runs out.
