What a lovely and pretty place. The feeling when you walked in was warm and very friendly. The food was lovely and service fantastic. Can't wait to take my husband there, he missed out on a lovely evening.

After reading these reviews we decided to make judgement for ourselves and booked a table for Saturday evening. Being our first time,we really wasn't sure what to expect. On arrival we were greeted by a warm, friendly gentleman which we assumed was the Manager. Although the entire place seemed to be extremely busy the Manager still found time to exchange a few words with us. We were then invited to have a drink at the bar first. The Bar was very busy but was soon served by a very pleasant member of bar staff. We took in the lovely atmosphere and was soon asked if we would like to take a seat for dinner. The Restaurant was also extremely busy but again the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Although there didn't appear to be a free seat 'in the house' we were soon served by a friendly young lady and our starters were soon delivered. They were delicious, as was the main course and desserts.
Once again on our departure we were bid 'goodbye'and made to feel that our visit to the Old Windmill was appreciated. Doesn't happen much these days!
Our first impression of the Old Windmill is Efficiently run, fabulous atmosphere, impressive decor and good food. Will definitely visit again.

It was meant to be a birthday celeratory meal so we heard about 'The old Windmill' and booked a table. We arrived at the allocated time, and were told that our table was still being set, and were asked to get a drink and wait in the bar. So we did, and we waited and waited. 25mins later we were shown to our table. When seated we were informed that there were items not available - sea bass, salmon and duck spring rolls. Another 40min later someone eventually came along to take our order.
Our starters arrived and away we went.... there was very little bread, and was stale and the pate was hard like cardboard. We order some drinks and we asked for a red "wine of the month", when the drinks arrived we were given a bottle of white - not quite what we asked for !! eventually it got rectified. Nearly 50 mins later our main course arrived and when they did items were missing, steak over cooked and grissly, and a pudding that was very hard with the filling warm. With waiting staff no where to be seen we sat and waited, and waited. When they turned up we told them of our issues they apologised and offered as consolation free desserts.
Our tables were cleared and dessert menus distributed, and yet again we waited. After 30mins one of group got up and went in search of staff and went in to the kitchen to find staff washing up and drying cutlery. When our desserts arrived there were still items missing and after we pointed them out we were told that they had run out of the items. Not a good evening and a birthday meal ruined !

Ventured out for Sunday lunch with friends and decided to call in at the Old Windmill. Atmosphere, service, food - all fabulous. Maybe a little overpriced but we'll be back. Well done the Windmill

Visited the Old Windmill 6 months ago and received a below average dining experience. No evidence of Management appeared to be the problem. Food quite good though. Was part of a party this weekend and had a fantastic evening. I think a change of Management! Most evident of someone leading the team as they say. Service was outstanding from our arrival to our departure. Food fabulous. Attentive Manager who had full control of a very busy Restaurant. We'll definitely be back. If you haven't tried the Old Windmill lately, give it a go - you won't be disappointed.

The service leave a lot to be desired. There are better pub/resturants in the area. If you dare challenge the service the junior manager will have you evicted. Some way to run a business !

Management and staff have no concept of good customer service.
Its run by a Junior Manager with a bunch of students, I would avoid at all costs !

My family and I visited The Old Windmill for Sunday lunch. The food was superb, the service excellent (they did not hurry us, but were not too slow) and the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed a relaxed and tasty sunday lunch in lovely surroundings.
Thoroughly recommend this restaurant, especially for Sunday lunch.

It is now called, BLUBECKERS at The Old windmill, South Hanningfield. Definitely recommend to all, decor is modern and relaxing, bar and restaurant areas, friendly staff, fantastic food, fabulous value for money during the day and evening. Great for having a special celebration meal, or just daytime snack.....can't say enough about it....

The Old Windmill:
A £6 starter of Pate should consist of homemade pate and fresh crusty toasted bread.. Not Pate which has been bought from the local Co Op and bread which the Milkman delivered 2 days before.
The Beef Wellington wasn't that nice My misses took a bite and looked at me and said "This is noting like you make it" She was right! It consisted of a tough piece of meat and a thick slice of Pate which must have been what I left over from my starter.. All in all they need a complete re-vamp... This place could be fantastic if they used better quality produce!

When we arrived we at The Old Windmill we waited where we thought we would be served. After several minutes we had to ask someone about a table even though 2 employees had seen us but said nothing. When we were led to a table, the diner next to where my wife was going to sit had to move and it was clear the tables were too close together. We asked to move and were given a table in another room that led onto the kitchen. I am in my early 50's and while I can enjoy Franz Ferdinand, having a romantic meal with my wife isn't the place. This in turn was drowned out by the young kitchen staff singing along to rap music which we mistook for Karaoke in the bar. The people at a table near us grimaced as the music was clearly spoiling their meal as well. The food was in its self enjoyable but we felt as if we wanted to eat quickly and escape the unrelaxing atmosphere.

i can agree that general standard of service is poor. however i do believe that your opinion of the quality of food and the produce used was wide of the mark. The chefs work very hard at their job and although their vocal skills may be lacking their culinary expertise are certainly not. it is my opinion that the windmill is a family orientated pub and that franz ferdinand may well be perfectly acceptable for that ambience. i would also like to point out that your pate was not homemade due to the lack of staff and the restricted kitchen space at the time of your visit. all food is freshly cooked to a high standard as both chefs have 30 years of international experience between them. if your looking for a romantic evening with lots of space at your table, may i suggest that you return on valentines day and sit in the garden.
