“Fantastic authentic food”

Written on: 07/08/2017 by Foleydn273 (1 review written)

Our first visit to the Bengal Spice and we were surprised to see it very quiet on a late Friday evening, but had a fabulous meal, way more than we could eat with just poppodams 2 mains 1 bread 1 rice and a side. Dishes were unusual and exceptionally well flavoured. My other half has eaten in many Indian restaurants and rates this very highly and will definitely be back for more. The Salmon Masalla is unusual and very tasty, not overpowering, so you still taste the Salmon and loads of it. Staff… Read Full Review

I had the misfortune of visiting the Bengal Spice in Norwich during a recent business trip.

The decor was dire, pine wood panels and dubious carpet and lighting. The staff were less than attentive, and quite unfriendly.

We were advised that they did not serve sheek kebabs for starters (unlike just about every other restaurant).

I ordered a chicken balti, to my shock, the chicken was not fresh, but the sliced processed type that is often served in takeaways on kebabs. They dish was devoid… Read Full Review

Having eaten at the majority of Indian restaurants that Norwich has to offer, Bengal Spice is by far one of the best. The staff are always extremely friendly with prompt service. The food is awesome, my favourite dish is Hash-e-Hash, a delightful duck dish similar to a jalfrezi. Only the d cor prevents it from being 10/10… Read Full Review

The staff at Bengal Spice in Norwich are really friendly, good service, good quality, well spiced food. Presentation was nice, atmosphere good- decor wasn't anything to look at but the food was so good an if you have great company then you wont mind. I had the best Indian I think I have had ever in there- fantastic flavouring!… Read Full Review

Great food, exceptional flavour definition, and the staff remember you, to the point that myself and the 4 other regulars in our party don't have to order our meal, as the waiter at Bengal Spice Indian restaurant in Norwich always remembers what we have!… Read Full Review

“I highly recommend Bengal Spice Indian restaurant in...”

I highly recommend Bengal Spice Indian restaurant in Norwich.

I go to this restaurant every Saturday, in the late afternoon to avoid the crowds at 7 - 8pm. It's my favourite Indian restaurant in Norwich, and I like the service. The atmosphere is very cosy, and the food is tastier than in other Indian restaurants in the area. The price is something that attracts me the most. For a fair portion of any curry and rice, with 2 popadoms, breads, sides and drinks, we spend around £20.

At weekends… Read Full Review

Bengal Spice had good service, good portions, nice atmosphere and decor but the food was not so good. My fiance's Pasanda tasted like a pot of cream with vegetables stirred in to it. The chicken in my Madras was hard and our plain Nan was really oily and tasted cheesy. For such a well presented restaurant, this was a disappointment. The waiters were well drilled and the general atmos was pleasant but the food was awful and not worth the money, there are much better Indian restaurants in… Read Full Review

Jezhill63's Response to 254084_nath10's Review

I think this reviewer has been rather harsh considering he only frequents the Bengal Spice a couple of times a year. If a dish is not to liking because it tastes differently to what you are normally served at other Indian's (they all taste the same) it seems unfair to criticise.

I eat at Bengal Spice weekly and have done for nearly 4 years, the menu could do with ringing the changes, but it's still a winning formula to provide well prepared high quality food, using the best ingredients (I know where all their supplies are sourced from, and its very good- no cutting corners here) and employing award winning chefs (other Indian restuarant frequently try to poach (!) the chefs, as they are highly experienced and creative). They have a good selection of wines and lagers… Read Full Review
