I bought this amp maybe 7 years ago +/-. I was then playing solo for rest homes, churches and senior groups. I went to an area music store with several brand name amps and tried them all. I chose the AS50R because it was simple to use, sounded good, looked good and not very heavy plus I could plug my mic through it. Shortly after my purchase I picked up a couple others and needed to use a PA mixer so I just ran my guitar through the mixer and hardly used the amp since. It still looks and sounds like new. I decided to sell, and did. The seller brought it back because the reverb no longer works. The amp was hardly used, never abused. The nearest dealer is 50 miles away. Now I either have to pay to fix it or sell it at a give away price. So I could not recommend Marshall AS50R Amp.

Sounds clear, is easy to set up, easy to carry - one guitar, one mic, one satisfied customer. Quick word of warning, knobs on front are vulnerable when loading into car / van if gigging with it. Good sounds - all you need for most venues - unless you're going to play the Albert Hall!

The AS50R is a superb amp for small venues, or larger when fed to the house PA.

As usual if you buy Marshall you know you are buying quality, and it has that wonderful Marshall "look" - brown leatherette retro cabinet with polished brass facia - Just Great!

It's easy to use and doesn't weigh a ton. I've used this in a variety of venues and it always makes my low-end Yamaha sound great. The chorus is good and it's a real spring reverb.

Although you can use the Marshall AS50R acoustic amp to amplify your stuff in a small venue, and I do mean small, I tend to use mine as a personal on-stage monitor. I have it pointing straight at me, (I play seated) set the amp to the sound I want, set the eq's to zero (I use a boss for eq), set the chorus and reverb controlled by a foot-swicth, then send the whole lot to the pa via the di output, giving the sound engineer instructions to leave the sound alone, except for any feedback. This way I can hear exactly what the guitar sounds like at a volume I can hear, without annoying the rest of the band. Try this, it's great!!

The Marshall AS50R is a portable combo that has two channels, each has independent volume and tone controls. It has a built-in chorus, assignable to both channels, withs reverb and parallel effects loop that can be balanced between the two channels. Feedback controls include a phase switch and notch control. It has 2x 8" speakers and a piezo tweeter. It also has an internal limiter which deters distortion.
A lot of features for little money.

I hate it when you go in into a guitar shop and they don't have Marshall gear in stock. What is it with all these digitalised musos these days? (devoid of soul). Marshall are the tops. This is perfect for acoustic players who want to sound a bit mean also - ideal for blues, alternative folk or rock types. It has a built-in chorus, reverb and parallel effects. Loops that can be balanced between the two channels. It is quite powerful and meaty, and is perfect for rehearsing in the garage, or for doing small gigs or busking. It looks good too.

Asked by dadgad1 on 20th April 2016 Report this content
I recently bought a Marshall AS50R. I play in a small pub venue with its own PA System. I intend to run a DI cable from the amp to the PA system to amplify the acoustic guitar. Should I run the microphone (Shure 58) through the amp and DI cable or connect the Shure directly to the PA system?
