Just got back from the houda golf hotel yesterday, wasnt impressed on how long we had to wait till we got into our rooms, over 5 bloody hours, the dinner hall was rubbish, not alot of selection for my young children, unless they had pasta or chips for 2 weeks, flies bloody paradise, our bed sheets got changed once in 2 weeks, the tunis holiday makers were sods, our waiter ali was very rude too, had to take my daughter to the doctors today because she is so ill, the only good thing about that hotel was the annimation team, i will never go back to that hotel, the ground floor has bed bugs, DONT GO THERE !!!!!!

“Poor Hotel”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/09/2012

Houda Golf and Beach Hotel. September 2012 If you require a holiday with reasonable service, reasonable food and the opportunity to get some sleep at night, DO NOT book in to this hotel. This is a cheap hotel trying to make a profit from the all inclusive market by cutting corners at every opportunity. Please be aware, that, at this hotel “in inclusive” includes swarms of flies and food poisoning. Any one booking into this hotel does so at their own risk. Thomas Cook should be ashamed for classifying this hotel as a three star hotel. There are many good hotels in Tunisia this is not one of them.

“Went to the Houda Hotel last year in early August and...”

★★★★☆

written by kerramack95 on 20/07/2010

Went to the Houda Hotel last year in early August and was not dissapointed. The entrance to the hotel is something out of a movie!
Came with 3 other people.
The all inclusive deal is very good, food is available most of the time, all the junk you can eat. The food aint too bad if your expectations arent sky high. Entertainment was GREAT. They did a wicked Micheal Jackson tribute and added loads of backdrops and smoke to fit the dances.
The hotel room was basic but clean and conditioned. Anyone that complains about it being basic is out of order because you get what you pay for and this is a 3 star hotel.
The scenery is beautiful outlooking from the hotel window.
HAD A TEMENDOUS TIME ON THE GO KARTS! I really recommend the go kart session. You can either ride alone or with someone else. You get a good hour or so riding through this barren deserty land following the guide. You dont get hot because of the wind. You do get sandy but they give you helmets and nose and mouth masks, well worth the money.

The staff are freindly and couldnt do enough for you. There are two pools, one at the entrance of the hotel and one inside the resort. The one inside the resort is huge! Make sure you get your towel outthere early though. The one at the entrance has 4 water slides which are great fun!

The toilets could have been cleaner and there should have been more of them because everyone seemed to need them and there was a queue. Many people complained of upset stomachs which is probably why they needed to toilet allthe time. They reps do advise you too drink plenty of water but instead people get bad tummies because they gauge on food all day, sunbathe too much and dont drink enough, dont forget the temperature is around 35 degrees in august so your bound to get sick if your not watered up.
Id definatly recommened this hotel to people with big families. Teens like me would love it!

just got back from a weeks stay with my family 8 of us including my 2 year old grandaughter, there are no lifts we were on the 4th floor many families having to carry puschairs up and down numerous flights of stairs.
the food was aimed at the continental clients not at the british and although it was not the hight of the season we had to que for everything the beach was dirty .
the entertainment staff were great and the pools and slides were excellent all in all we will not be going back

“We visit Tunisia yearly, sometimes twice a year, we...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by kagee1964 on 28/04/2010

We visit Tunisia yearly, sometimes twice a year, we always stay in The Abou Sofiane in Port el Kantaoui, after our stay this year and during the Volcano issue we were transferred by Thomas Cook, to The Houda Beach in Skanes for one week.
Oh My God, what an awful place. To be fair the grounds are great, the gardens colourful and the pool area really fab! But the rooms were awful, dirty, smelly...just awful! The toilet leaked, the shower curtain had totally lost its 'water-proof quality' so the bathroom floor was soaked all the time from both!
The room stank of foist, badly, and the air-con just rattled which didn't fill us with confidence!
The food was diabolical! The staff were totally miserable and never cracked a smile.
The only good thing about this hotel was the alcohol! We needed this to sleep in the beds!
If you wan't to venture out the hotel there's nothing about, you'll have to get a taxi to have a night out. The whole place is pretty dire, not what Tunisia actually is!
We've read reviews about this hotel and can honestly say that all the bad one's are true. We have no idea how much it costs to stay here but in our opinion this is quite literally The Butlins of Tunisia.

“My partner and I have just returned from The Houda...”

written by on 25/04/2010

My partner and I have just returned from The Houda Beach Hotel in Skanes after an extended stay due to the Volcano stuff! The Hotel was clean and tidy as were the rooms. The Staff were great and the Animation team were fab (never forget seeing Willy and Mido dressed as Batman and Robin riding a mule around the lovely ground!). These boys and girls worked so hard to keep everyone amused and the kids seemed to loved them.
The only down side was the food which seemed fine when we fristed arrived but after a few days became a little boring but all in all we had a great time and would go back again in the future....after all a holiday is what YOU make it

Just returned from Houda Golf & Beach Club after spending 14 nights there.Hotel looks fabulous from outside. Some of the rooms are ok ours was very basic. No view, corridors were very narrow and dark at night. The food was terrible as was the resturant, it was stuffy and the heat was unbearable at all times. The drinks were always warm.We were bitten and had upset stomachs for 5 days. However the italian resturant was beautiful and so was he pizza resturant.Needless to say we will not be returning to this hotel or recommending it to anyone.

written by pap2501 on 12/06/2009

i have never queued so much in my life...queue to eat queue to drink queue to go to toilet...i was really dissapointed the food was awful because of queues it was always cold when you sat down, if there was anything in the dishes it was the same old dross everyday but more often than not the hotplate was empty and we had to wait for more food to be brought out, the hotel staff were miserable and the rooms were at best basic, the smell from our bathroom permeated the whole room, if it wasn't for the Skanes, Houda Golf & Beach Club animation team and the swimming pools we'd have come home after 2 days

“Good points, An english lady who has worked there for...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Gail Hough on 02/10/2008

Good points, An english lady who has worked there for 16yrs, and the Thomas Cook rep. Bad points, although we did tip most staff they also try getting you to give them more by constantly complaining to you, one waiter spent at least 4 days trying to get my husband to give him his trainers. One flower boy asked for money so he could pay his boss, this is not the sort of thing I wish to contend with on holiday as I have saved for over 12 months to pay for it, I assume I should be allowed to relax and enjoy instead of being constantly harassed.

“The queue for food was ridiculous. By the time you had...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/08/2008

The queue for food was ridiculous. By the time you had queued for chips the queued again for your meat your meal ended up being cold. The carvery was a joke. There were approx 300 people in the restaurant and every one wanted chips but they only had 2 places were the chips were served. The chips basically lasted about 3 or 4 mins then you had to wait until the chef brought/cooked some more.
The entertainment was basic. No professional acts on, it was the animation team trying there best to entertain the guests. The animation team were very good around the pool trying to get everyone involved in the games etc.
After tea everyone went to a little square which was ok until you tried to get a seat. No entertainment in the square just the soft drinks man playing his Tunisian music CD, ok at first but not every night.
I think if the Houda management had thought about it they could have made the square a lot more entertaining with quality acts or maybe a disco.
The slide pool looked ok but I did not try it. This was the venue for nightly acts as the stage was next to the pool. The toilets here were a disgrace and were often flooded and stunk. The bar was a joke here as well, they was very little choice to drink. Lager and wine and a soft drinks machine for the kids to fill up.
If you are a non smoker the smoke hits you straight away as soon as you enter the reception room. The only place you do not smoke is the restaurant.
Beach ok but full of sea grass. The water clarity was not very good and the beach is situated next a river estuary that has a big factory sited at the end of the beach.
The task of getting a sunbed was ridiculous. We woke up at 6 am to get some poolside sunbeds and they were all gone. I noticed some people after they had been to the nightclub had also got there towels and put them out at 2.30am in the morning. I paid the pool attendant 10 dinars and he would make sure your towels were on the sunbed the next day.
The onsite disco/nightclub was very good but not many guests used the disco when I was there. If you are all inclusive you can get free drinks until the disco closes which is 2am.
The spirits appeared to be watered down as my wife did not get drunk, the beer was ok at first but then got tedious as the holiday went on, I ended up drinking rose wine which was not bad.
There is nothing to do on a night. You have to get a taxi to the nearby town but our rep recommended we did not go at night.

Loverly excursions. Good sandy beaches. Loverly people. Enjoyed going on camels, going to the zoo and Zulu night. Not much to choice of food, (but go to the Italian al le carte). The sea was all seweedy.
