Hi guys, the Microsoft Trackball Optical mouse is great but no longer available for purchase...
so searching the web I have found a good alternative:

the microsoft trackbal optical takes about a week or so to get used to it but once you do, you will never want to use a mouse again!!

My first computer was a 8088, I've used every kind of equipment that's been made since, when it comes to comfort, and ease of use there is no equal. This Microsoft Trackball Optical mouse is made with logic and common sense.

Microsoft Trackball Optical is simply the best mouse device on the market! The most comfortable and efficient mouse I've ever used! Trying to buy another one now, but seem to be rather scarce? Trackball tends to stick a little with age...5yrs+ but easily cleaned

Excellent when sitting on the sofa. Great for uncomfortable positions.
Highly recommended for who can't move their hand around because of lack of space or their position (Sofa, car, Bed, or elsewhere) I can't understand why this mouse is not produced anymore.

A more civilised way of moving around your display. I've used many different mice and trackballs, and I must say this one is the most comfortable to use. Its especially at its best when trying to use a laptop on anything other than a desk. I'm suprised that trackballs in general never really took off. Try one out, once you get the hang of not having to chase it around the desk you'll feel much less primitive.

I have 2 of these. I love the feel of them, the ease of use, and the navigation buttons are a big plus.
One of the best mouse on the market. I am going to purchase two new laptops soon and I will most likely be ordering another two of these for my new laptops.
I even ordered one for my niece when she got her first laptop.
They are the best.

Hyperergonomyc mouse.
5 buttons ideally for fps games
I have this mouse since year 2000 and todays is operative.
In general lines this is a great trackball.
I'm sad that microsoft don't sell this kind of mouse todays.

Ball easier to use with thumb than other with fingers, very ergonomic and easy to the wrist. Ball sometime stuck. Out of production however well recommend computer mouse.
Please Microsoft, make it again.

I have had 2 of the Microsoft Trackball Optical PS2. I LOVE THEM and would pay just about anything to find another one. The last one that I had just broke yesterday. The optical eye broke. Does anyone know if the optical eye can be replaced? I would buy SEVERAL of these mice if MICROSOFT would bring them back! Please Microsoft listen to the people... WE WANT THIS MOUSE BACK! I have also tried a couple of Logitech mice as a possible replacement... but they don't even come close! If anyone knows of where I can purchase another Microsoft Trackball Optical PS2 mouse... please comment so I can find it.

Brilliant have had mine for at leats 4 years. seemed expensive when I bought it back then nut is well worth the money and I would be inconsolable if I lost it, as they just don't make them anymore.

The Microsoft Trackball Optical PS2 has 5 buttons. It's decently sized for comfortable rest. No aches from prolonged use like conventional mice. My dad bought me the Microsoft Trackball Optical PS2 mouse when I was still at home some years ago, and when my brother used it, he stole it from me and my dad wouldn't have us arguing over it so said he'd buy me a new one, however, it wasn't a Microsoft Trackball Optical.
I recently moved away from home and to uni, and wanted to buy one of these mice for my new desktop, and found out they're no longer on the market! I have had to buy a Logitech similar model instead, but it doesn't have five buttons and doesn't look anywhere near as slick.
Bring them back, Microsoft!

My husband loves this mouse, and I love it too, at first I thought it was odd but now I can't use a regular mouse as it is so ergonomically correct. We've had ours for 7 years now, and I'm looking for another qw it's still going strong. But I really really wish they still made them.

I have not found another track ball like this on the market. The Microsoft trackball optical PS2 is the best in their history. If Microsoft would make this track ball again I would purchase one as my actual track ball has become old.

All my friends laugh when I they see it due to it's size, but when they try if for half an hour and go back to there 'normal mouse' they always ask me where to get one.

Microsoft could make a lot of money by making these again.

When I clean the ball and the socket of the Microsoft Trackball Optical PS2/USB mouse, it seems to work sometimes (a little better), but not for long.
In despair, I put a little Vaseline or baby oil on my hands, rub it in well (also on the ball), put the ball back into the socket, and everything works like a charm.

The first Microsoft Trackball Optical PS2/USB I bought was rough as a cob! See my earlier review. I figured since I'd found a way to fix the roughness I'd buy another for my desktop. The new one came in today and the ball action is smooth as silk! Guess the lesson here is -- if she's rough take 'er back! Or send her back if you bought her online but what a pain! My ratings apply to this second one I bought.

I agree. This is (was) a great trackball. I used Kensington's Expert Mouse trackball for several years (owned 3), but got disgusted with the price and drop in quality in latest versions - feels like sand rolling around inside, even new out of box. Bought Microsoft's Trackball Explorer mouse as a cheaper alternative. After some adjustment, found I liked it even BETTER than Kensington's. It didn't cause wrist fatigue/abrasion like Kensington's. Leave it to Microsoft to discontinue one of their best reviewed, highest rated little wonders. Wish they would at least sell the rights to make it to someone else, but that'll never happen.
