“Would not reccomend”

★★☆☆☆

written by 1984Harris on 01/11/2021

I bought this bike second hand last year and it has been nothing but trouble. We were looking for a cheap bike for myself as i passed my CBT, we found Gilleras had the best reviews and great value for money but this is far from the truth. When we got the bike it had a few starting issues but it ran just fine. After using it for about a month we were finding the battery would drain it's self after just an hour on it, we decide to take it into a well known shop to see what the problem was but when we had it back things just got worse. The brand new battery would not hold charge and we were having to take it out during the time I wasn't on it to manually charge it, once we replace the freshly charged battery it wouldn't start with the key and it takes about 30 kicks to get it going on the kickstart. Indicators stopped working halve way to my destination, lights completely shut off and the tickover just wasn't right it, the engine would completely shut off after as little as 20 seconds of idling. after just over £500 of tinkering and repairs in a different shop the bike still won't run and is now unsafe to use. Yes this could be fault to the shops we brought it to but these were well trusted in out community and all the other bikes they had worked on have come out like new. This could have been a great bike but it's just horrendous when it starts to break.

“35000 miles and counting”

★★★★☆

written by on 29/09/2017

Bought this little old red stalker back in April 2016. My unit was manufactured in 1998, so is one of the early stalkers. Was cheap, around 400 euros but had some bad points when I got it. Some broken plastics, bad paintwork, and other issues. About paint and plastics, I did rattle can spray on the front fairing because it developed a brake oil leak who messed my paintjob. After rattle painting it, I liked the result. Then, replaced brake hose, brake paster cylinder and brakepads. Also adjusted the rear brake. Only problem is finding new grimeca kits to rebuilt my brake master cylinder. I wonder if i can just fit the newer models brembo units. The previous owner didn't seemed to care about keeping her sound. Also replaced the starter button,. because it didn't operated. Easy fix of just 3 euros! And just because yes, also renewed my turn signals and light selector buttons. On engine, at first just replaced sparkplug and cleaned the air filter. Reaches speeds of 50, 55mph (say 80kmh and on downhills with wind behind i even managed to hit 90km/h) Reliability? AS long all components are good, she does on and on! in one day made a continuos 120km travel (75 miles) on it. was suicide for my kidneys on bad roads, but worth it. In january 2017 after winter keeping she developed a problem on the fuel tap. Seriously, a part around 20 years old was never replaced. So, why not, ordered new tap, ordered new intake manifold because noticed mine had a crack, and even ordered a new autochoke. (this was uneeded because my old one operates) Problem fixed and until this date of my review, still working. Also needed to replace my ignition coil and lead because of bad care from the previous owner. I am satisfied with it, the piaggio engine is bullet proof, and sometimes i just complain about fuel economy, because seems to drink too much. but then... I'm always going at high speed. If i could buy a new scooter? I could. They could even me more economical on fuel saving. But wouldn't be as fun as this little devil. It runs basically as fast as a new chinese 125cc scooter!

I have my Gilera Stalker 16 years since it's made. It was going 110 km/h first 6 years now top speed is 90 km/h. I haven't changed a part from the machine, 20000 km passed.I like every single part of the moped.

I have had my 2008 gilera stalker for about a month now i have not done anything to it and i have clocked it at about 42 but the only problem is from constantly riding it it eats away the spark plug so you will need back up ones they are also very easy to install. i am thinking about getting a new exhaust but i am not sure where to get one.

My gilera stalker will do 51mph and the only upgrade is a technigas exhaust. It has very quick acceleration. It is a mint starter in all weathers and always starts on the starter motor.
Would reccomend to everyone and anyone. Fast, Good handling, very reliable

I bought this bike for a year ago and im still not sick of driving it :) it has so good road abillitys and so reliable. I can go nearly as far as i want on the backwheel and even the front wheel isnt any problems ;) The acceleration original still are surprising good. The look isnt the best but it has gotten a RAW look :P Very good bike for the money and it beats all Yamahas/Mbk's and speedfights and such. Its the Italjet dragster and runner 180cc that beats it !! The best bike on the market to a very good price !!! I recomend this bike overall others !!!

Sorry for bad english hope you guys understand me ;)
Only the drum brake back is the problem but in some countries they sell it without.

Gilera Stalker is a very fast very reliable bike. I can do 60mph without tuning. apart from the exhaust it's a good bike. Some electrical problems, not a very good looking front end.

“I have owned my stalker for a year and a half and it's...”

★★★★★

written by Gilerastalker50 on 15/02/2007

I have owned my stalker for a year and a half and it's fabulous! I've never had any problems, only the odd service that requires new pads and spark plug. Starts on the coldest morning, on the electric start first time and on the kick start. The bike is extremely nippy and it has very good acceleration and in no time at all its hitting 40mph +++. when I'm stopped at the lights I always get looks from the other riders as Stalkers are quite rare and look AMAZING. The seat is very good and keep you nice and comfy for long trips like 60 miles.
The only things I can say that are not so good is the fuel tanks lasts me a week going to work and back 5 days a week which is a 14 mile trip there and back, which is good but some are better. Also I've had my steering lock broke twice (both by me) as it only takes minimal force to break the steering lock. But all in the bike is fabulous and is I think one of the top bikes today.
