Lot Of Rubbish Out There But This One Is A Keeper
Great bike, bought it new, not one problem ever. great to have the peace of mind this bike offers, i had a 2010 katana r before this for 8 months it was 50/50 each day a real heart breaker. i would defo recommend a neos to anyone. 2013 bike will do about 64kpr push to 74 down hill and 60 up hill.

Not Bad, But Not Great Either
Bought this 2004 Yamaha Neos 50 as a runner needing tidying, the chrome on the forks was shot so I bought a new pair off ebay, a couple of panels were cracked so those were replaced or repaired, and a new battery and exhaust gasket made it usable. For about £450 not a bad bike at low mileage. It looks nice in an understated way and has a smooth, quiet power unit. Peformance is a great disappointment though, it's in restricted form so struggles to top 30mph, in fact on any sort of hill it'll drop to 15 or less with an adult male on board. This makes it unsuitable for open roads - I could derestrict it but that would make it illegal for a 16 year old rider (so be aware!). Also used flat out for my 4-mile journey into work it is returning just 90mpg, should really be well over 100mpg as a restricted bike. All in all not bad, but not great either - though to be fair the performance issues would probably be much the same for any restricted 50.

One Of The Best Scooters On The Market
I have a Yamaha neos 50cc bought it from a friend for 300 spent another 200 getting it up to scratch and running properly. Since I had the carb cleaned and full service on the bike it hasn't skipped a beat. Starts first time every time unlike most 2 stroke scooters. Will do about 38 on the flat but everything is completely standard would like to purchase a race pipe and suggestions? On the whole this bike is perfect for first time rides or experienced commuters. Mine is 12 years old and is a quality product and will be for many years to come.

Brilliant
I have a 51 plate neo's. It has 11,500 miles on the clock and still runs like new. lovely little bike and dominates my friends 05 reg aprilia. it does 40mph all day long i have had it at 50mph down hill with the wind behind me. It is unrestricted but has no modifications. I would like to make it quicker. Does anyone know anything i can do to make it quicker that doesnt cost much money?
Dont Buy One
dont get one!!! get a gillera stalker my mates goes 100mph down hill
i think that the guy that write this was reading the speedo in kph as a Gilera Stalker would not do even 47mph on the flat as most 50cc scooters will touch about that just derestricted sorry sunny you are getting a bit optimistic

I Love It
my yamaha neos is brilliant, reliable and has vary rareley let me down, it has 22300 miles on the clock yet with regullar service it never fails to be a smooth and good ride, on a flat with my tecnigas exhuast its brilliant on a good day cruising at 48/50mph! i bought it for £400 as some minor work was needed, its a perfect little bike used everyday and starts first time everytime, the yamaha quality really does show apprt from fuel clock dosent work fully and thye pistons are on the way out, easly fixable. i love it beats all geared bikes i have faced and is a beaut to handle. buy one there fantastic, its yamaha !!!

More More Fuel!
Overall i'm sooo happy with my neo i use it to go to college which i've just started i live 9 miles from the college i had a full tank of fuel on monday morning and now on wednesday afternoon the fuel light shows nearly empty dipping in tank thats true where did that fuel go surely a full tank would go further than 54 miles am i right or wrong in thinking this please advise Abbie
take the restrictor washer off for a massive increase in mpg .I now get 100mpg .nobody can really tell its derestricted either as it takes a bit longer to reach 45mph no need to touch jets ,exhaust and it will run tons better just order the special tool off e bay to remove the washer ,takes no more than an hour
deristrict for 100 mpg but say nothing lol .massive difference in mpg

Q&A
Tried to start my Neos but starting motor won't stop, seems stuck. Help?
The starter motor should only run when the ignition is on, the brake lever is pulled on and the starter button is pressed. There is no voltage to the motor except when ALL THREE of those things are in place. On my Neos the starter motor would occasionally stick, but this was NOT running. On those occasions I just used the kickstarter.
Your question suggests the starter is running all the time (I assume only when the ignition is switched on?). Check that the brake light goes out when you release the brake, this should depower the starter motor. Also take off and clean the RH switchgear to make sure it isn't making contact all the time. If the starter still runs all the time you may have a short somewhere in the wiring harness, which is not likely to be easy to trace.
