“Not worth the money!”

★★☆☆☆

written by lmcnally on 16/09/2011

Just came back from a 7 night stay at the Coral Towers Hotel in Atlantis. So NOT worth the money!! Our room was filthy, dust an inch thick on furniture, stuff left under bed from who knows how long ago, awful smell coming from I think the rug, had to hold the toilet handle down forever to get it to flush. My Daughter & husbands room was just as bad or worse! I don't think they ever vacuum, saw them with a broom which doesn't do much on a carpet. So needless to say very disappointed with hotel quality. Now food...so very expensive you feel they are ripping you off everytime you eat...thank god for Starbucks, plan on spending at least $200 or more a day for 2 to eat. The grounds are nice and maintained but everything outside closes at 6pm even the pools...disappointing! Beach nice but your pestered constantly to buy a jet ski, jewelry, massage and my daughter was even approached for joints/cocaine believe it or not! Could of gone on 3 cruises for the price I paid here. Will never go back!!

I was amazed to read so many negative reviews. We have been to Atlantis 4 times. Yes, it is exhorbitently expensive but you can figure that out up front - it is not a surprise. It is incredibly beautiful and the grounds are very well maintained. In our 4 trips we found the staff very pleasant and accommodating. Yes, it can get very crowded. Try to avoid weekends and its a wonderful place to be. Some of the restaurants should be avoided, e.g. ChopStix is dreadful but the majority are very good as is the service. We certainly wouldn't have gone 4 times if it wasn't a wonderful place.

Insanily Expensive. I earn enough to afford this $400/day per person .. but I don't like to ripped off. They have invested heaviy in this huge property. Every sq feet is beautifully done .. great theme. But then, they could have created activities and provided variety. I hate eating $100 per dinner and $75 for lunch and minimu $30 for breakfast. I hated that the few activities that did exist were $150 or upward. Deep Sea dolphin cay is a joke. $15 just to watch from a distance. Good water sports and rapids. Good service, friendly people. But overall, i could have had much more fun, much more activities, and much better food elsewhere in half the cost. This place is suitable only for super rich elite who want a cost barrier to filter out the crowd they walk with on the resort.

Well they tred to rip me off telling me that i did not pay 3 nights when the hotel was payed full by credit card before i even came to the resort. They tried to get me for extra cash so i had a reciept proving that the room was fully payed for so now my credit card has almost went over the limit and now i cant do any xmas shopping until the money gets transfered ack to me 2 days before xmas. The room service was brutal, they never closed the door right and left it a bit open meanwhile i had my 500 dollar cam corder charging in the bathroom. My enternet did not work half the time. The tv had a bad recemption and they charged me for stuff from the fridge i did not even use.The people that went to the night club in the casino on the top floor on the weekend were a bunch of snobs and the bartender kept on avoiding me after i left a nice tip.The food was horrible and the places that were of somewhat descent was way to over priced.Black guys near the jet skiis were trying to sell me cocaine and pot and i felt uncomfortable.I will never go to atlantis resort again, actually i will never go to bahamas never again because of the rude servers at the restaurants in naussa.

Paradise Island, Atlantis Resort & Casino is in a beautiful location on the island. My stay was FREE for a week (corporate retreat), and I still hated the resort! I thought the staff seemd slow. Any time I asked a simple question from customer service, they would stare blankly, shrug, and then (slowly) go get a brochure for you to read, in order to answer the question.

The Atlantis Resort is the best place you can go for a family vacation. Lets start off with what you will visit the most: aquaventure. The slides were fantastic! There weren't many of them but trust me they're great. The variety is awesome too! Weather you're a daredevil and scaredy cat or somewhere in between there's something special for you! The pools are amazing too, and the beaches are beyond compare. The water is warm at the beach and the sand is too. If it rains it's only for about an our than it stops, the sun comes out and it's as if nothing happened. If you're looking for something to do while you're waiting for the rain to end, there are many things to do inside the resort such as a nightclub for both your kids and you!

I can't believe that there are any good reviews on this page! This was the worst resort I've ever been to. The customer service was horrid, the food was worse. It was so crowded you couldn't move. If you didn't get to the pools or beach by 8 a.m. forget about getting a chair to sit in. I saw more fights between people over saving chairs! I am so glad to be home.

Casino Royale's Comment

You sure you were at the right resort? The food is AWSOME but expensive. Ive been ther 6 times in 3 years and all 6 times were a pleasure. I never had to fight for a chair at the water park or arounfd the pools, we met a great waiter that we seek out every time we go. The rooms are nice and everyone is helpful. One time we had a palm tree blocking our view, we asked for anoher room at Royal Towers and we were upgraded to a ocean view, high floor for no extra cost. I think your exierence was rare or your just a hard person to please

This resort is expensive and after a while, you get angry spending your money to be treated badly. I was on a conference, spending my corporations money and I was still appalled.

The hotel is badly in need of repairs. There were numerous leaks, the A/C in the main lobby went out and they resorted to placing huge tornado fans all throughout the common areas. A mouldy smell was frequently present in certain areas. Our room had been recently painted. The smell was still present and the door would stick or fail to close completely.

On our departure, we went to the checkout desk, and paid cash of £280.00 to clear our final bill. When we got home, we found this amount had also been charged to our credit card. We tried (at length and in vain) to get this money back but were unable to claim it back despite the brilliant efforts of our credit card company. This left a very bad taste in the mouth and put a damper on our holiday.

“Atlantis - Truly a Lost City. I just returned home...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 02/05/2008

Atlantis - Truly a Lost City. I just returned home from vacationing at Atlantis Paradise Island. This billion dollar resort has fallen down in a number of areas over the past 3 years. Pools were not cleaned properly and at times some were so cold you could not swim in them. Numerous slides for pools were permanently closed. This is not how the brochures presents the resort or the web site for that matter. Towels were very tired and old looking and lounge chairs were filthy as well as numerous were broken. Service at this resort is so poor one should really question staying at this resort. I would like to say that I have been to Atlantis several times in the past and have revisited this resort as it has one of the nicest beaches and is certainly an upgrade from many of the hotels on Nassau. The unfortunate fact is that the resort has fallen each year further and further into a decline. Bathrooms with broken door hinges, broken outer doors and numerous items in the hotel room not working properly. It is evident that upgrades were taken in our room with a new bathroom counter vanity, yet the room lacked care and appeared very tired. The overall service to guests is depolorable. The staff for the most part is rude, disinterested in assisting with the simplist of requests. There is much to do to improve this problem. Complaints from guests are resoundingly heard. I overheard a conversation in the elevator where a guest was stating that she reallly needs to not return to Atlantis as she could no longer stand the service. I fully agree. When you pay a premium for service quality you expect that. There is no question that whom ever is in charge of the service ability of guests has failed to achieve a standard that is to be considered acceptable. The cost of food is very expensive and at times seems to be ridiculous. One can feel extremely taken advantage of and then to boot you deal with the miserable attitudes of the staff that are barely willing to seat you. This is not to say that my experience of every staff member was horrible, but the vast majority of staff encountered seemed pretty miserable. The concept of this resort is pretty impressive and the vision of Sol Kerzner is extrordinary, however I know he must have never envisioned what's happening to Atlantis now. As a guest that has been to this resort a total of 5 times, I am convinced this will be my last time. Each year I have returned as I loved the beach mainly and enjoyed the food quality and the ease of getting from my home to this destination, but I have reconsidered where I want to spend my hard earned money. I want to have an experience that is truly memorable in a positive manner, not a negative one. I have choices as you do. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that you are treated as a welcomed guest instead of an imposition to the staff. I would say in closing, I would definitely recommend Paradise Island and would highly recommend that you visit Atlantis to see the overall accomplishment Mr. Kerzner has made but strongly consider staying elsewhere. This resort does not deliver the service quality that is commensurate with the cost.

WOW! What an incredible place, as soon as we arrived the Atlantis Resort took our breath away. Check-in was quick an easy - we were even upgraded to an ocean view room for free!
The Atlantis resort is like nothing else on earth, every corner of this massive resort is completely spotless, nothing is out of place, this place is perfection personified.
The Marine habitats are incredible, beneath our balcony (beach tower) was a lagoon with stingray and numerous fish. The dig is also a must see - we returned to it every evening and had a good nosy.
I would recommend Atlantis to families with older children as you have to be 48 inches or taller to ride the waterslides.

written by p anon on 09/04/2007

This felt like a vacation at the Mall of America. It was a homogenous, boring, and as fake as Las Vegas. We traveled the week before Easter, so there were food lines for every beach cafe and breakfast buffet. My kids (18 and 13) did not like it either. Except for one individual, no staff member tried to create a good time. There was no laughter, no dancing, no fun...

I have visited numerous Club Meds, and they know how to create fun by organizing beach volleyball games, merengue classes, exercise classes, contests during Happy Hour, dancing, dancing and more dancing...

Atlantis has no soul, don't waste your money.

The quality and detail of every little aspect of the Atlantis Resort & Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas is amazing! It has so much to offer; from amazing food, to slides that are so good, it's like a water park. There are loads and loads of pools, and it is very close to the beach, making it a great location.

It is very expensive, but it doesn't get you down until you get off the holiday. Whilst you are there, the quality is so good you just don't care!

The people there are stuck up, which creates an uncomfortable atmosphere because you feel like you always have to be looking perfect, but if you don't care what people think then that won't bother you.

I would definitely recommend it to a friend. This is definitely a once in a life time opportunity.

“First, let me begin by telling you that I have wanted...”

★★☆☆☆

written by creed24 on 19/02/2006

First, let me begin by telling you that I have wanted to stay at Atlantis for years. So my husband and I finally decided to go, we stayed at the Royal Towers and got the Moderate meal plan. I looked at the reviews and read that it was expensive but thought maybe they just didn't spend the money that we do on vacations. I am not going to complain about the expense you should expect that I am going to tell about them charging your credit card 250.00 per day as soon as you check in. Since me and my husband were going to be there 5 days they wanted to charge my card 1250.00 before we got to the room. So be prepared! I only had my Debit card and 1500.00 cash. They did allow me to put down 300.00 but told me that I had to check it each day. But they acted like I was a criminal for not having a credit card and it was embarrassing. The reason this is done is b/c they encourage you to use your room key as payment. But let me tell you the amount of upset customers in that line during check-out.
The hotel is absolutely gorgeous but all of the surround hotel's guest can use all of the facilities so why pay the high price to sleep there. And on top of the guests at Atlantis and the surrounding hotels there are also the tours for the 2 to 3 cruise ships that show up each day. It was crazy.
The food was pretty good but service at all of the bars SUCKED. There was one point when we sat at the bar for 30 minutes got 1 drink then could not get another drink. We kept trying and finally after an hour and a half left Atlantis and went to Anthony's across the street.

none of the surrounding hotels and there are only 3, which would be the RIU and the holiday inn that have access to atlantis facilities - that is an outright lie. To get to any outside area where these facilities are, you are required to present a guest key. You might be confused with places like comfort suites and the harbourside resort which, in case you didn't know, are joint owned by atlantis so they would have access.

“Due to personal circumstances we were not able to book...”

★★★★★

written by Jackll on 07/01/2006

Due to personal circumstances we were not able to book our holiday to the Atlantis resort until a few days before, hence we had trouble getting a room anywhere let alone the Royal Towers, we eventually had two options, one was for the comfort suites, slightly off site, for around 2700ish, room and breakfast. and secondly 3300ish for a sea view room in the beach tower, both prices were for 2 adults and 1 infant with direct flights with Virgin from Gatwick. I was quite aware we paying a little more than usual, however we really wanted to go, and couldn't book early nor be sure of roughly when we would be able to in the future. We were dissapointed we couldnt get a Royal Tower room initially, however we were optomistic we could upgrade once there.

We flew out with Virgin through Jetline holidays in the first half of November. The flight was fine and the crew in general were pleasent, polite and helpful. We arrived on time around 1pm, immigration and baggage retrieval took a further hour. Now the transit to the Atlantis resort is basically a single decker bus, being the time of day it takes a little longer than the stated 30 mins, however on the way back it was closer to the said time.

If your staying the Beach or Coral towers you are dropped off at the Coral Towers to check in, there wasn't much of a queue at all, I asked if there were any rooms available in the Royal Towers and he replied it would be an extra 1050 dollars, with a wink and a nudge he dropped this down to $300, this was a deal, a steal, the sale of century, in fact I did wonder why he didn't keep it for himself, but there you go, my only regret was not to think to ask if he had any Imperial rooms available.

Now the Beach and Coral Towers are nice, but to go all that way we wished to stay at the Royal Towers and very glad we did, the decor of the lobby etc is impressive, the rooms large and cleaned daily with an express clean aswell as your bed sheets being turned over in the evening whilst your out for dinner. The view as I said is of the harbour and from our french balcony we could see the cruise ships whilst they were docked.

As I'd left the luggage with the bellboy at the Coral Towers it took a while around 40 mins to get our bags, the reason being they transport the luggage between towers by vehicle.

We decided to buy the meal plan whilst there, there's two on option however for the gourmet plan you need to book two weeks in advance, which wasn't possible for us, so we took the alternative, which was $70 dollars a day, u.s., take u.s. dollars, as they use this far more anyway. For 70 dollars each, you can have breakfast in a choice of 4 restaurants, lunch in a choice of 5, and dinner in a choice of 8, two of the dinner options require booking, possibly days in advance, one was Wateredge, which was seafood buffet, including lobster. Although do note, this dosen't include tips, which are settled at the end of your stay.

We had breakfast mostly at the market place, which was handy as it's not far from the lift at ground level in the Royal Towers. To cut a long story short regarding food, it's very good, we had not had a bad meal, nor service, it's London prices or slightly dearer.

I would advise to avoid cues, especially if you have young children to eat fairly early, breakfast 7-7.30, dinner 6.30 - 7.30, that's arrival times at your chosen eating venue, as it can get very busy after, due to American people eating later, 95% of the people at the resort are American, and it would appear they depart from only two locations from the U.S. Silicone Valley and Mooseville. Although a little loud and annoying there quite polite and civil.

We went for a week and felt it was enough to do most things the resort has to offer, not to say i wouldnt of stayed longer given the choice, theres some great slides and pools, some of which are very good for young children as they slope down, instead of the traditional drop in to the water, although theres some good aqauriums they failed to impress me, mainly due to seeing the ones in Jaws 3, I will not go wow till I see one like it in real life, but hats off, bloody good effort. The Beach and Lagoon Beach too is very nice, and at the time of year we went quiteish, considering where you are.

All in all a great holiday, it's pricey, but worth every cent, nickel and dime. Excellent hotel, room, service. Good food, great pools/slides.

My only beefs were
1. People placing towels on chairs, need I go on, yes to get it out me system, one day we were sat by the pool with 4 or 5 sun loungers which some one had placed towels on for future use, we arrived there at 8.30am, and stayed till 2pm, when there friends arrived behind us,as we were leaving it became apparent they were in Nassau shopping, absolutely disgraceful, god forbid anyone else have a nice holiday.

2. On bills at certain bars eating establisments you will see on the bill, an option of giving an extra tip, im obviuosly barking up the wrong tree in my profession, if as a barman you recieve a wage, 15% tip, automatic, and another tip, which could quite possibly be a dollar extra for taking a bottle cap off, they don't earn that much but its in proportion to there economy, I quite often leave extra tips, well over the suggested 15%, but come to expect/ask and all what happens is put people backs up.

One point to note for people with young children and buggies is there are quite a few stairs, usually 4 or 5 steps which you may need to carry the buggy down.

Once again a fantastic holiday, and would definatly return, they are in the process of building a couple of new towers close by, and I understand theres to be a version in dubai. However would avoid peak seasons, as it must be mobbed.

While we were there, we got robbed and the Atlantis Resort & Casino hotel is not even trying to help us, or even repay us.
The pools are wonderful, although they close at 7pm.
The food was extremely expensive.
Some of the staff treat you badly and are inconsiderate.
I would definitley not go back again.

written by Danield on 25/08/2005

As soon at you reach Atlantis Resort & Casino, you'll notice how big it is and how busy it is. Don't let this put you off. Atlantis has got many activities including jet-ski, slides, para-gliding and marine aquarium.

When you get to your room, I advise you to read the short booklets. It contains a list of slides and activities, information on restraunts, and information on pools and beaches.

Eating in Atlantis is really easy. For breakfast you have many options. You could go to Market Place if you like a buffet breakfast, or you could go to Platos for an express breafast, that serves pastries, croissants, doughnuts, tea & coffee and cold drinks. These two restaraunts are located in the Royal Towers lobby.

You can have lunch by the pool, or you can go to the restaraunts, but many people prefer a quick snack by the pool.

For dinner you have options like Mama Loos for a good Chinese, Vila De Este for a nice Italian, Market Place for a bit of everything!

Atlantis offers excursions to Nassau, where you can shop and drop, mostly jewelry. If you would like a range of shops, take the sea-plane to Fort Lauderdale for a range of malls!

“We were a party of 6 that recently stayed at...”

★★★★☆

written by baileyblum on 09/07/2005

We were a party of 6 that recently stayed at Harborside at Atlantis. We did a trade on another timeshare to get our room.

I had read so many reviews about Atlantis and Harborside and found them very helpful so I felt compelled to write one as well.

Atlantis is on Paradise Island. It's about a half hour ride from the airport. When you take a taxi ($27 for the first 2 people and then $4 for each additional plus $1 toll for the bridge to Paradise Island ) from the Nassau airport and have a few people, try to negotiate a better rate. We always did and saved a few bucks with 6 people in our group. You cross a bridge over to Paradise Island. There is a separate bridge for return traffic to Nassau.

If you were not aware, Harborside is the timeshare "area" of Atlantis. It is not physically connected to Atlantis but you can take a short walk or a shuttle bus (we did that all the time) to any of the towers (the different "wings" of hotel rooms). The shuttles run pretty much all day. If you are going to the main pool area or the casino, I do recommend taking the shuttle to the Royal Towers. You will have less of a walk once you get there.

Our flight arrived early so our room was not ready so we took the shuttle over to Atlantis I had head about the property tour so we decided to take this to become familiar with the resort. There are 2 tours, one is a tour of the timeshare properties (Harborside) where they will get you acquainted with the property and probably try to sign you up. They will give you a $75 voucher (I think it is a voucher) just for taking the tour so if you have no intentions of getting a timeshare, take the tour, get $75 to use at one of the restaurants!!.

The other tour (leaves from the Royal Tower at 12 noon), which we took. One of the guest services personnel takes you on a tour or the lagoon areas which are incredible. There are numerous underground walkways with huge plexiglass windows so you can see all the fish including rays, sharks, lobsters and more. We were also taken by the various towers, shown their own pool areas, the main pools and lagoons as well as the beach areas.

There are also a couple of waterslides by the main pools which we all enjoyed. Many of the restaurants were also pointed out on tour. I thought it was worth the hour to hour and a half that the tour took.

Stuff to know:
If you are staying at Harborside, you would certainly want to bring as much food as possible if you plan on eating in. We even froze a few items and they made it just fine. There is a market not far from Harborside or you can take a taxi back over the bridge to a grocery store. I am told that Harborside has a service that will also take you to the market once a day for around $7 roundtrip per person. We ended up not having to do any extra shopping as we ate what we brought or dined at one of the restaurants on property or locally.

If you go to Nassau and the downtown tourist area where the straw market and cruise ships dock, you can take a ferry that leaves from under the bridge near Harborside. The fare is $7 one way $14 round trip and it is a nice scenic trip which drops you off right by the straw market. You do need to return by 6pm as this is when the last ferry returns to Paradise Island. Be prepared, they do pack some of those boats with as many people as they legally can and it can seem crowded.

The timeshares at Harborside a pretty well equipped with a stacked washer/dryer ( need to bring powdered soap), TV, VCR, mini-stereo, convection oven/microwave, plates, silver, cups, glasses, paper towels, dishwasher to name a few items.

By the way, the water was just fine. You may read the need to bring or buy expensive water. Actually we have one of those Brita Pitchers and brought it. We didn't need it but used it anyway.

To Eat:
It turned out we only ate on site at a couple of places. Murray's Deli for a meal when we first arrived, the Lagoon Bar & Grill for lunch (has a great view of several lagoons as well as the whole property) and the Point, which is at Harborside and has burgers, grouper fingers, soup, etc and a bar. Pretty inexpensive and nice that it is close by.

There is a few shopping centers near the property and we ate dinner at Anthony's Caribbean Grill located at one of them. Good food and not too pricey. There is also a Quizano's sub shop there if you must.

In another shopping center we ate breakfast at Choosy Foods. It was good. There are a couple of restaurants in that same center that I have seen recommended.

Also off property we went to the Poop Deck, It is across the bridge and about a 25 minute walk from Harborside or take a cab for about $6 each. We did have a wait but the food was very good and reasonable.

We were also told to visit Potter's Cay for a meal. This is a group of "shacks" across the bridge but underneath one of them. Here you can get local seafood and heard about $15 lobster. The problem was that lobster was not in season for them so no lobster was to be had. McKenzie's was recommended by several different employees.

Since Potter's Cay did not work out we went back over the bridge towards Harborside and ate at the Green Parrot. This is on the Paradise Island side by the further away bridge in the marina there. Their lobster (I guess theirs is flown in) was $23 and very good. We noticed quite a few off duty Atlantis employees there so that must be a good sign.

I really will not comment on any other restaurants as we did not eat at them but one restaurant, Fathoms (on property) is quite a dining experience as you can have a table by one of those large plexiglass windows that looks into one of the lagoons. You can eat seafood and watch it at the same time.

Other stuff:
They have a library with 5 computers so you can get 15 minutes of time on the internet. They say only 15 minutes per day but if you come back later in the day they won't know you were there already. Usually there is a short wait for a computer.

They do have a large movie theatre complete with concession stand showing some of the latest movies.

We did bring our own snorkeling equipment as you can do so in the lagoons in designated areas. You may have to wear one of their inflatable vests if you snorkel in the middle of the main lagoon. Not a whole lot to see there but the fish in one area were plentiful and checked us out for food. They are used to the scuba divers who come to the same area and feed the fish.

Speaking of feeding fish, they have something called Seakeepers Sanctuary. This is feeding time for the fish, turtles, sharks and rays at various times of the day. Check these out if you are interested. At the turtle and ray feeding, you can feed them yourself.

By the way, there is a daily newsletter that can be found at most guest services desks that lists all the activities on site for the day including the Seakeepers Sanctuary and movies.

We were always asking employees about places to eat locally or go for cocktails. They are very helpful and can be consistent in naming the same place even though they work in different parts of Atlantis.

As for your trip back to the airport they say you should get there about 2 hours before. You can probably fudge that a little. We did run into a bit of traffic on the way back, there were numerous customs and security checks at the airport. We got there about 1.5 hours before our flight and we were fine.
