The machines is very easy use. Made very decilious bread and saved me a lot of time. The look is obviously awesome. The only complaint I have is the price. Nevertheless, it is worth the money spent on.

“The disappearing kneading paddle.”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/10/2013

I was given this Bread Making machine as a present some years ago I use it occasionally not every day or week even The reason being that the kneading paddle is nearly always stuck inside the loaf.I have tried many remediesUsing different high quality flours adding more liquid to the mix.Different loaf sizes to no avail 9 out of 10 times end up with the paddle inside the loaf.I have also changed the paddle three times that didn't help either. All of the loaves are heavy doughy and only just suitable for toast or feeding the birds I feel I have given this machine a good trial and I am so disappointed .

“Fresh bread everyday”

★★★★★

written by Betina on 14/07/2013

I have been baking on the SD 253 Panasonic Bread Maker for 5 years nearly everyday. Absolutely fantastic, durable, the bread never goes wrong and I have used countless recipes from other sources - I just adjust the quantities to fit the recipes in the manual - every single time PERFECT! I just wish it had a transparent lid so I could check the bread sometimes!

“I'M NOT A BAD BAKER ANYMORE”

★★★★★

written by johnwataboy on 26/06/2013

There are many bread makers on the market to choose from, and Panasonic make some of the best. Good name and good results and that is what you pay for if you want a first class variety of breads. However, I concentrate mainly on the basic breads; bread that most of us will eat from day to day. If you are thinking of saving a lot of money by home bread making, then forget it. You are just as well purchasing your favourite loaf from your local store or even supermarkets, by the time you purchase all the necessary ingredients, and the total cost of making the bread; besides, life is so fast today, that it means you have to find time to gather the ingredients together, measure them as accurately as possible, plug in and allow the machine to bake for the time instructed, then after releasing your loaf from the tin....you have a little washing up to do. If you have followed the instructions and bought the right ingredients, then you can produce some of the nicest breads that you will taste anywhere. Panasonic will make you into a Master Baker in no time. The only real downside with home bread making recipes, they do not include a preservative, and whilst the bread that the machine produces is fresher than fresh, it has to be eaten within the first or second day of making, as it quickly goes stale otherwise. Of course freshly baked bread has its temptations, just like making cakes and biscuits. You want to get stuck into them before they have time to really cool off. Freshly baked bread is delicious and moreish, so be careful that you do not eat to much of it straight away; it can be heavy on your stomach. I am a devil for freshly baked bread. I simply cut off the end crust and cover it with lashings of butter which melt into the bread. If you like eating crust of bread, then adjust your machine dial to produce a more golden brown result. I have a hoover cleaner close by to clear up the mess of crumbs that I make when eating it. The results are absolutely delicious, and this is where your desire to eat another slice becomes moreish. Bread making, even with a bread maker, can be a little time consuming. If you have those extra moments to spare, then yes I would certainly recommend you getting a Panasonic, that's if you want a top of the range one. However, there are bread makers on the market for a much cheaper price, but are not so robust, stylish nor have the ability to bake all the recipes that Panasonic do. Concentrate on making the basic ingredient loaves of bread first, then choose from a range of various other recipes which include adding fruit, herbs etcetera. I do not recommend storage or freezing of home made bread. You are better off making it, and then eating it within no more than 36 to 48 hours of making, to enjoy it at its best

“Durable but Very Expensive Spares”

★★★☆☆

written by mzzzz1 on 25/04/2012

The title says it all. We've had one for 10 years. Used on a daily base. It works today as it did 10 years ago (very reliable results too) However, there's a big BUT! If used on a regular base, the pan will need replacing every couple of years ... and that is no good at all for the pocket: the pan is as expensive as the machine itself! Kenwood products may be better, all considered.

“Panasonic SD253 Bread maker”

★★★★★

written by DavidGrey on 10/04/2012

This is great value for money, my wife made me buy her one and im so glad she did. The bread she makes with it is out of this world, the taste is great and the machine is so quite. It's so easy to use even I had a go and I know nothing about cooking. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of buying their first or a new breadmaker. David

My old Murphy Richards bread maker finally gave up the ghost, I was recommended to
get a Panasonic SD/256. It is absolutely fantastic, I have owned it for just
over two weeks, it is also so very quite, not like my other old one that could be heard working up stairs. I have made five different types of bread and rolls, cannot fault the machine, would not buy shop bread again.
I give this machine 10/10.

“The Panasonic SD-253 was recommended to me and more...”

★★★★☆

written by on 20/03/2011

The Panasonic SD-253 was recommended to me and more than four years' on it's still going strong - about 3 loaves a week + cakes + pizza on demand! It makes excellent bread, cakes and dough and is very versatile (I blame poor quality/old flour or yeast - or an inferior recipe - when it turns out less well).
My main quibble is that spare parts are pretty expensive and it's probably better now for me to get a new machine rather than carry on forking out for new parts, as bits are starting to show their age/use...
I have also found that the controls can be a little confusing for newcomers to work out - although it is all explained carefully in the instructions!

written by on 30/01/2011

I hardly ever buy any bread anymore because my bread is very fresh - doing it myself. Best thing I had as a x-mas present from my hubby a few years ago. Super! The only thing now is that the breadpan has been used so much that I will have to invest in a new one. I've just checked the prices but I think they are horrendous for replacements. It would be cheaper to buy a new Bread Maker. I think some thought has to be put in to this.

★★★★★

written by anne hawkings on 16/12/2010

I have owned an Panasonic SD 253 bread maker since they were first on the market. I have never had anything but success with all the breads I have made in this machine. The kneading shaft needs replacing which I hope to buy this week.
It is such a reliable machine and long may it last. So easy to use and I make breads for elderly friends as well.Having watched a friend make her bread in an sd 253, I was hooked from the start and everything is explained in the book which is excellent and I was not worried about using the machine from scratch. I even gave one to our son and daughter-in-law as a Christmas present 7 years ago and they use it nearly every day.
It would be helpful to have the measuring beaker made larger as I prefer to use a plastic jug of my own.
Must close and put a loaf on ready for the morning.

Have used Panasonic Breadmaker SD 253 since Mar, 2005-for 5 years!
Worked perfectly for two years. It lost its POWER BRAKE function in the third year. Now in its SIXTH year it needs replacement of KNEADER MOUNTING SHAFT. We purchased the Bread Maker in Germany and have used it all along in North India .We believe Panasonic does not sell/has no service support in India which is a pity for it is a great breadmaker !
We purchased it for its robustness and Powerbreak function because of India's notorious power supply!

We've had our bread machine for about 3 years now after it was recommended to us by friends and it has never produced a bad loaf. It is extremely versatile. Not only does it produce the perfect loaf, it also makes very light pizza bases, bread dough, naans and pitta. We've taken the basic recipes provided and experimented ourselves with extra ingredients. I don't know why anyone would buy any other make of bread machine as this one is fantastic.

★★★★★

written by jrratcm on 26/09/2010

Only kitchen machine in which you can place in the ingredients and get out the finished product. If you follow the recipes the bread always comes out perfectly, and is the best bread you can get. The Tesco quick yeast and strong bread flour (white or brown) work as well as any other brand, most of which are more expensive! Other yeasts (Doves for example) don't work as well, so if you are having problems try the tesco one that comes in satchets. I have had my machine for about 7 months and haven't and wouldn't buy bread since/again. Have probably made enough loaves now for the machine to pay for itself. Preparing the loaf takes about as long as making a cup of tea and a quick rinse of the bread tin takes a couple of minutes once the cycle is complete.

If you like good bread you should be using a Panasonic Bread Maker!

I have had an SD206 bread maker (the model before this one) for 15 years+. It's used 2 or 3 times every week - one replacement pan and 2 replacement blades later it's still gong strong and makes perfect bread every time. I have tried different makes of flour- the better the quality, the better the loaf - and I've experimented with ingredients - I've found that sugar and milk powder isn't necessary for most recipes. A brilliant machine that produces perfect results every time.

you have a 12 months statutory guarantee with all appliances bought in the uk. otherwise Panasonic have a customer service department which could have been approached. I don't think it is a fair review given the complainant does not offer any explanation to how the 'breakage' occurred or whether they took any steps to put things right.

bought a panasonic, made about 50 lovely loaves, the shaft spindle has worn out already, thought it was the paddle, replaced that only to find there was nothing wrong with the original, ive ordered a new shaft assembly, 30pounds, so many good reports im gonna give it a second chance, if this one fails, in the bin it goes.

written by sluckman on 18/03/2010

I am more than hapy with this Panasonic Breadmaker, its the best thing I have ever bought. However, I am disappointed with the recipies in the booklet, as the first four or five bread made came out a bit flat, fine but something missing. I then tried another recipe, and god what a difference, the Panasonic booklet recipes, don't tell you to put dried milk in, god this made a big difference, I will never buy a shop loaf again, I have bought my daughter in law on and my mother one. My friend was going to buy one and I recommended this one to her. SO GO AND AND TAKE THE PLUNG AND BUY ONE TODAY.

We had our Panasonic SD253 now for about 6 years after it was recommended to us. It gets used everyday and this is the best make we have owned. Bread is perfect everytime. We bought one for my Parents, my Dad is 86 and never cooked in his life yet even he can make perfect bread everytime.
If you cant make a perfect loaf with this machine, then you are not following the instructions, its not the machine!

“I bought the Panasonic SD253 a few years go to replace...”

★★★★★

written by on 03/02/2010

I bought the Panasonic SD253 a few years go to replace a different brand machine that had failed. It has been used once or twice a week now for over 3 year without any problems.
The design is simple and functional and the auto raisin/nut compartment means you can make raisin bread for instance without having to be there to add ingredients during the process.
Our family mainly make wholemeal or granary bread but have tried many of the recipies, including pizza dough with great success.

Having used several supermarket own brand flours, yeasts etc this machine seems to deliver pretty consistent results irrespective of ingredients.

The fast bake program works well, particularly with white bread however I find that if you make a wholemeal bread with one third granary flour as I often do it does not rise as evenly on fast bake, the bottom is a little denser. However on normal bake program it's excellent.

The SD 253 seems more reliable and consistently produces better and more varied bread than any of our friends machines so I would have no qualms in recommending it although it is now supercedded by th SD255 which seems to share the same features and build quality.
