Paid a bit more for a reputable brand (or so I thought!). Dryer was next to useless and took over 3 hours to dry even half a load. Machine completely blew up after 4 years and is irrepairable - not impressed!

Previous Hotpoint washing machine was very reliable and lasted 16 years so decided to buy another Hotpoint. Purchased the Ultima WMA 60 eight years ago at a cost of £400+. It gradually became increasingly noisy when spinning the clothes and eventually had to have a new drum assembly fitted 3 years after purchase at a cost of over £100. It has never been a quiet washing machine but it has become irritatingly noisy again when spinning. The washed clothes are also now coming out of the machine with tiny yellowy orange oily marks on them and ruining them. I'm fed up with the machine and am reluctant to spend more money on having it repaired so have decided to buy a new one but as the build quality of most washing machines is so poor I don't know which make to go for but I do know that I won't be buying another Hotpoint.

Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 has too many programmes and features most of which are irrelevant.

I have been using this Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 for 3.5 years now doing an average of 10 loads a week (five loads each over 2 days) and have never had even the slightest problem! The machine belonged to a customer of mine and she has now passed the machine on to me as she has had her kitchen replaced and the Hotpoint doesn't match! It is still working perfectly and I am really pleased with it! I would say do not buy a Servis machine as I had all problems with one of those that have been listed for the WMA.

My Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 has broken down many times since we bought it about 3 years ago. We have had pump failures, needed a new drum and the paddles inside needed replacing as they had broken off and chewed the clothes etc. Pump has just gone again halfway through a wash cycle leaving the machine full of water. Have had to drain it manually using the hose at the back just to get the washing out.
When it is working we are quite happy with its performance, however it is just too unreliable. We wouldn't buy it again.

Never ever ever will I buy another Hotpoint Ultima WMA60.
1) The door rim is covered in gunge, which dirties the clothes as I take them out - and the wife cleans it regularly
2) The noise of this machine in intolerable. I CANT EVEN HEAR MYSELF THINK!
3) Terrible smell coming from the machine. Hoses not blocked, cause the machine drains ok. Anyone any ideas?
4) The tray for softner liquid always blocks and therefore never gets into the wash

Since your review was written in 2006 and now it`s 2008 you`ve probably scrapped the m/ch by now. But for the unfortunate amongst you who own a hotpoint wma (the whole wma series of models) I can tell you that drum bearing failure (the noise on spin) is vv common mainly because their is a design fault(actually there are several-snapping drum paddles is one other one). These models used to come with a free 5 years part warranty they don`t anymore as far as i know. In the trade it is rumoured that it cost hotpoint/merloni appliances 5 million quid in problems. If there are any machines left under parts cover and the bearings go try and get the whole tank unit replaced as this is a spare part rather than what the engineers have been told to do which is to replace the bearings and spider(drums support spindel) only and that is only if the spider is really zapped. As to the reason why your machine smells, providing it is plumbed out right, this is now a much more common problem that it was 15 years or so ago without writting reams it comes down to not enough deterg ent being used and low temperature washing all the time.- this is a ruthlessly simplified explaination, hope this helps someone. Not much use in trying to save the planet if low h2o useage low energy useage causes m/chs to be on village tip in a few years is it????i.e. you/we gain nothing but the manufactures just gain another sale, you have to factor in the amount of energy it takes to make a new w/machine everytime a nearly new one gets chucked out. Andy 26 years as a washing m/ch engineer. Best of luck everyone.ps it not just hotpoint m/chs that suffer bearing problems early, zanussi/t.bendix,indesit,creda, do also. Very generally m/chs are way too fast for the loading they have to spin this don`t exactly help !!

I've had my machine for 3 years and it now needs its 3rd drum. Last time it broke down an independent engineer told me that this model was defective and suggested I get in touch with Hotpoint. They replaced the drum without any problem and I only paid the call out fee. 14 months later the drums gone again and Hotpoint won't help. There must be some way to make them take responsibility.

Do not buy this Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 or any other Hotpoint washing machine! This is simply the worst purchase I have ever made. Nine paddles have been replaced (which have caused clothes to get ripped/torn). The service from Hotpoint has been the worst I have ever experienced from any supplier (yes, I used to think I was a customer)and now after 1 month of a grinding sound, the bearings have gone. Having had to move it from the kitchen to the garage because the noise was unbearable, I am about to order a skip because it is the best home for it. Never again Hotpoint. Going to purchase a proper washing maching from Bosch.

The paddles keep breaking causing clothes to become trapped and get torn. Steer clear from hotpoint machines that have plastic paddles inside the drum as apparently this is a common problem. Hotpoint sort your designs out!!!!

I the Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 washing machine it is rubbish, so noisy you can't hear yourself talking, had to have the drum replaced and its doing exactly the same again surely this is a flaw within the product and something shoould be able to be done. It's a waste of money.

Purchased this Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 Washing Machine 24 months ago, it has always been noisy (but could close the door and was ok) It has now stopped draining and spinning and I called several repair men who wouldn't touch it. Eventually got someone to have a look who advised it was a broken circuit board which is £95 to purchase then labour on top. I have been unable to source the part so far.

I purchased a wma9p Hotpoint washing machine in Jan 2003. It has been making a grinding noise since I purchased it, which I thought was due to the cheaper quality specification I had bought and learned to live with it.
A few weeks ago it started to smell of burning rubber, although I have not used it much. I have been advised by independent engineers of a problem with the WMA model - specifically with the drum and the bearings which makes the machine noisy and also makes it smell of burning rubber after a while.
I have also spent some time searching the internet and asking friends and colleagues who have the models and shockingly they have had the same problems. I am very disapointed in the washing machine as it will cost me another £135.00 to get it fixed for a manufacture fault - it is not due to wear and tear as all engineers have advised that a drum and bearings should last for at least 7-8 years! I have contacted Hotpoint who have inconsistently advised that a) There have never been any such problems with any Hotpoint machine and b) Only models with serial numbers beginning with 01 had problems and these are no longer manufactured. The engineer I have spoken to has been advised that the problem was with the old models but were quite shocked to see my serial number beginning with 10 . and the exact same problem. It is general consensus amongst washing machine engineers (including an ex-hotpoint engineer) that drums usually last at least 7-8 years!.
Hotpoint are charging me for labour and parts as I do not have extended warranty and fail to recognise that the problem is not due to wear and tear - which I feel is not true as I have hardly used the machine, previous to which I had a Hoover which lasted for at least 9 yrs without a problem and that was in the 80's!.
I am currently speaking to trading standards regarding this and hopefully I should get a refund or some sort of resolution soon.
Do yourself a favour and don't buy a Hotpoint washing machine - I know I'll never ever get anything from Hotpoint ever again, stick with the quality brands and spend a little extra if you have to.

I bought Hotpoint Washing machine 13 months ago, and now it won't drain or spin, unfortunatly I didn't take out the warranty, so now I have to wait 3 weeks for Hotpoint to come and have a look at it, £350 for a machine to last for just a year. Disgusting.
And I have to pay £100 for the labour.

Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 - Slight problem today as the drum is not emptying water remaining in drum. Could be a blocked filter/ pump hence the reason for being on this site......

I have had the Hotpoint Ultima WMA62S for 26 months now, and following on a similar theme, the machine is now so loud you almost have to shout to be heard. Not good when there is a baby in the house.
The door lock has broken twice, a suspension strut hadn't been inserted in the factory (which took two engineers to spot!), and now the machine is just so loud, it's unpleasant. Another trip by the engineer next week....not that this will be the last visit.
My friend has a NEF and you hardly know it is on!
Would not recommend this model to anyone.

Tried to discuss with Hotpoint. Failed!
Customer service put me thorugh to service dept. who told me I would have to go back to Customer Service....but they could not put me back entailing more calls and lots more time listening to their wretched call wait muzac.
I suspect that the cost of trying to talk to Hotpoint even at local call rates may be more than the cost of a replacement machine!
After several laps I lost patience and asked for a supervisor to contact me. This was promised by
customer service representative.
No one has bothered to contact me.
Am now planning to park the machine in a trailer outside a local retail park with a 'free to good' home sign along with printed explanations as to why it is being junked!
On the basis of this experience it seems a case of bad product- bad service.

I purchased a Hotpoint AQUARIUS 1000 (WM62) 4 years ago. To date we have had the HOTPOINT service man replace the bearings (after 3 years), the motor and the pump. Also, from day one the door seal leaked, we were told this was a design feature by a HOTPOINT service man, it has since been replaced by another HOTPOINT service man who discounted the original explanation. Today, the machine has refused to spin during the spin cycle, the drum turns but not at 1000RPM, I am suspicious the controller is at fault. I think this is the last HOTPOINT I will ever purchase.

I am so glad I spotted your review about the Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 washing machine. It prompted me to read the others too. Hotpoint Ultima was one of the machines I had been looking at, as my present machine is probably about to die soon. I think I will pass it by!
