“Just returned from a two week stay at the Avra Beach...”

★★★★★

written by Lucy Atkins on 11/07/2007

Just returned from a two week stay at the Avra Beach Hotel, Ixia, Rhodes.
Me and my Fiance went for our yearly holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Its the third time we have stayed in Rhodes as we keep getting drawn back to this absolute gem of an island.
In the past we have stayed over near Lindos but this time we chose Ixia.
Its a lovely little resort with everything you could need. There is always a breeze which we were glad of hitting a heatwave and temperatures reached 46 degrees.
The other side of the island felt much hotter without the breeze.
The hotel was fantastic. Our room was clean and maids were fantastic each day, leaving fresh towels and bedding. We were in one of the end rooms which had a sea view and the room was very spacious.
It had a fridge, tv, full bathroom with bath & shower, and balcony. The hotel staff were very helpful and would of done anything to please.
The restaurant was very nice too with a indoor and outdoor section.
The buffet style food was always hot and plenty of variety and choice.
There was entertainment on each night, a few of the nights we saw were quite funny.
The all inclusive drinks were all local brands which meant no UK spirits such as baileys, malibu, archers, etc. If you are happy with cocktails, wine, beer, and local spirits then you'll be fine, however they are plentiful and everything seems to be a triple measure!
There were plenty sunbeds both round the pool and on the beach but I can imagine in peak summer there is a rush for sunbeds!
There was also a large mix of nations in the hotel including German, French, Dutch, and Spanish. We had no problems with anyone.
We hired a car for 3 days and this was more than enough to see the whole island. The drivers are a bit crazy round the main towns but when you get out on the main roads its not so bad. There are some very pretty typical Greek villages to be seen and some beautiful beaches and coves. The beach at Ixia is mainly pebbles so its advisable to wear your shoes on beach and in sea or you wont be able to walk on it. The beaches at the other side of the island are much nicer.
Its only 6 euros in taxi to Rhodes town or 2 Euros on the bus service which runs really regularly from Ixia. The buses also go right round the island and stop at all the main towns.
Rhodes old town is beautiful and a must see by both day and night!
The swimming pool at the hotel was lovely too and cleaned daily. All in all we had a lovely time at the hotel and would go back tomorrow. It is very handy being so close to Rhodes town. It could either be a relaxing holiday or a busy one depending on how you make it. If you fancy a change from All In there are some lovely greek restaurants in the resort and also Fat man slims opposite the hotel that's a English bar and restaurant. You can walk for miles along the beach to both Rhodes Town, and Trianda & Kramasti.
There are always little things in Greece you have to laugh at but the people are so laid back and will do anything to make you have a unforgettable holiday. When I read these reviews I always panic about the bad ones people leave but have discovered over the years the all the people who have had a fantastic holiday don't leave reviews, it's only the ones that have had bad experiences.
This is a lovely hotel so don't be put off by anyone else.
Enjoy!!!

We couldn't fault the Avra Beach Hotel at all. By far exceeded our expectations, the hotel was immaculate, food was available constantly and there was a massive variety of well presented food everyday.

The staff were lovely and so friendly (especially the restuarant staff). Beer tasted just like Fosters and the bar was stocked with every alcoholic/non-alcoholic drink you could imagine.

There was always plenty of sunbeds available around the pool and beach. A good mix of nationalities (English, French, German, Dutch).

Rhodes Town is 5 minutes by bus (1.50euros) or taxi (6 euros).

My wife and I would very highly recommend the Avra Beach Hotel and would like to think we'll go again in a year or two. You won't be disappointed.

Avra Beach Hotel - We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks and we could not praise the staff enough.

Hotel was very clean and the food was good if a little limited in choice.

Pity about the beach on this side of the island, it only consists of 2 yards of rough round pebbles but ten or so yards out the bottom is smooth sand and very safe.

Very easy to get into Rhodes town and it is really magnificent in the old town.

“Avra Beach Hotel: ”

★★☆☆☆

written by michael503pratt on 05/07/2004

Avra Beach Hotel:
Good taxi service into Rhodes, and cheap, Ixia is nice and a friendly resort, this hotel struggles on a four star not for want of trying by good staff. The owners should look at what they offer their guests, and offer their family and friends when visiting their hotel. (a personal observation)
