I have been banking with Lloyds over 3 years and they refused to change my current account to student account.

Worst bank ever! Overdraft is a nightmare and they treat you like a piece of poo!

At the beginning of my third year of a four year course, I recieved a call from collectors saying I owe Lloyds £999 as I no longer have an overdraft facility (but couldn't advise me why this was). After going to the branch I found out this was removed as I had not paid money into the account for 3 months (not having had a loan installment for that amount of time and struggling to find part-time work!) After endless letters of complaint and speaking to numerous incompetent customer service advisors I am still having to repay the overdraft ad they are refusing to re-instate it for my fourth year. Due to being passed to collectors, I cannot even apply to a different bank for a student account, so Lloyds have left me in a horrible position, where I am sacrificing my degree to work endless hours and repay them in the middle of my teaching course! Would not reccommend to any student - in fact, stay well clear!!

Customer service great.
Don't try applying for a student credit card/ extended overdraft they will laugh in your face, as a student still earning 20,000 p/a i still diddnt get approved

My son has a student account with them he went in his third year at uni he went £40 overdrawn(first time ever) they charged £20 for a returned standing order, unplanned over draught monthly fee £15 and charged £15 for each day he was overdrawn.Seems very unreasonable, heavy handed and excessive. Dont know how they get away with it I guess students are easy targets.

I had been banking with Lloyds TSB since I was 14, I am now 21 and have recently applied for a student account. I have a regular steady income, a few direct debits all paid without fail each month including a lloyds tsb loan and credit card! I went into one branch, the guy was very slow on the computer and after a phone call told me without being able to say why that I had been declined a student account. A couple of days later I went into another branch and had better customer service but the same result, so the guy said he would appeal my application and get back to me within 48 hours. 10 days later I've still heard nothing so I will definately be switching to another bank, I think Barclays looks a good bet as they only have good reviews so far for student accounts. I was very unhappy with lloyds tsb and they will be losing a customer who has been with them for 7 years!

Recently went into my local bracnh of lloyds to upgrade my current account to a student account (i've been banking with them for 4 years). i gave all the necessary deatils and information and after the lady had made a call, she told me i was in fact refused a student account and couldn't explain why. she told me if my parents had accounts with them, then they might be able to sort something out. just to clarify, im almost 20 and have been in control of my banking for years. she was very apologetic about it and said shed never had it happen before but could not or would not give me a readon as to why i was being refused a student account. im in the process of setting up a student account with natwest, and needless to say, i shall be closing my lloyds account asap!

I had a Barclays student account which I closed after two weeks and switched to my LLoyds tsb account as it had better perks for students. I went in and they said there was a glitch with the system so I had to set up a new account which took five minutes and they gave me a credit card with a £750 limit on it and £500 straight away with my student account. After 6 months I can extend it to £1000 and after a year £1500 and two years £2000 and if I go over the limit its only 6% EPR for the year. I recieved a free NUS card which they will supply me for three years. I looked up the barclays account and they said if I want to extent it they ask several personal questions on why and they only provide a £200 overdraft where as Lloyds say I can call them or pop in and they will extent the overdraft without any personal questions. I am very pleased with the service so far and I would recommend Lloyds to anyone and not recommend my old trusted bank Barclays.

They have been fine for a year however now they have decided to charge me £5 a month to use their overdraft...so the student "interest free" overdraft has to be paid for with Lloyds and no one else - im closing my account today!

I have a student account with Lloyds tsb and since leaving uni (in my overdraft) they decided without notice to take away my overdraft and start charging me £20 a day! After numerous phone calls no one has managed to explain to me why this has happened. They were fine for the 3 years I have been with them, but after this i will never bank with them again!

I found the service amazing, easy and hassle free. I walked in knowing I wanted a student account and they literally took care of the rest. Opened up a savings account, got me a student credit card.On-line banking is an absolute god send. I am happy with everything so far.
I banked with HSBC before and found the customer service rubbish. I didn't feel welcomed at all, but maybe this is a problem with my branch in particular and not a reflection of the bank as a whole.

This is the worst bank account going for students. After opening an account under promises of benefits, when I rang up to gain these benefits, I was told student accounts did not exist, when I corrected the ill informed advisor, they then proceeded to tell me that the mobile phone was not available, despite that being my pure reason for joining Lloyds.
I have had so much trouble with this bank, including them giving Halifax unauthorised bank charges from when they said they would take care of transfering my Halifax account to their student account.
I strongly advise anyone considering opening this account not to! I have been told multiple times by housemates and friends that NATWEST is the best, they offer a free student railcard with their account.
Hope this helps.
NO STARS!!

A frills free service which is best avoided as once you graduate university they hound you for the money, especially if you cannot get a job in these harsh economic times - they don't like to give unemployed graduates their graduate account. THe benefits are a tiered overdraft up to £1500 but then during the review process it is vunerable to change without much prompting - they drop it without warning. Their customer phone service is attrocious, i kept being swapped from one department to the other when asking about an overdraft. In the end i found out it is much simpler to use the online system.

Great service every time, no waiting.
Fantastic bank, loads of cashpoints, easy online banking.
In fact, I only switched to them after Halifax refused to give me a Student Account as my account kept being flagged as having too low a credit rating! After checking things out I had a score of 752 out of 1000, 2 more than the national average. So clearly they were having a laugh.
I asked Lloyds to move everything from Halifax for me, then close the account and I simply sat back as they took care of everything for me.
Absolute genius.
I'm based in Bristol btw, so perhaps results elsewhere may vary?
Overall, it's a great service and gives easy access to your money without any ridiculously stupid things like a card pin generator you need to use every time for Natwest and the likes.

My student daughter went over her overdraft limit and Lloyds proceeded to charge her £15.00 a day! Staggering. Students beware.

I have had a under 19's account with lloyds for several years, ut upgrading to a student account was nothing b tsbut trouble. I made an appointment, which i was left waiting for 15 minutes. The manager who i upgraded with didnt have a clue on the account, and i was telling her what was in it. I have not been offered a credit card or overdraft, as i should have as she said i could not have one until i was at uni? I am still waiting for the free gifts

Their brochure says that within 28 days of opening a student account your account will be credited with £25. In addition to that you will get another £50 by 31 July 2008 if you don't go overdrawn and pay in money at least 3 times by 30 June 2008. 2 months down the line, I approached the bank manager of my local branch to ask about the initial £25 as my account had not been credited with same. I was told that the £25 was part of the additional £50 and that because I had gone overdrawn and not put in money 3 times since, I was not eligible for the £25. I called their telephone helpline and they claimed that I should get the £25 as that had nothing to do with the additional £50 as that was a different scenario. I will be closing my account with Lloyds!
