Had I known that the next Dyson animal vac wasn't gonna be a good as this one, I would of never given it away... Sad sad day, being this model DC07 was much better than the new one Ball Animal I got a year ago... If Dyson ever makes this . Exact model DC07 again, I am gonna buy me a couple of them.. Had my DC07 for 9 hrs... Never had a problem with it at all... I lived going to people's homes and telling them to vacumm with there vac, then I would/ with my DC07 and show them how much was missed... Lol

    “Fabulous machine!”

We've had our DC07 Animal for 10 years in a 3 story, carpeted house and a large labrador/ridgeback cross dog (plus a cat) that sheds 12 months of the year. We've cleaned the filter a couple of times and replaced lost spare brushes/attachments, and also cleaned out the main brush quite a few times which is to be expected and the vacuum has performed flawlessly throughout. I now use it from the back of the van on electrical install jobs as a site vacuum and it still works great (the good lady indoors nicks it back occasionally too for the house when she tires of the Mieler). I could not wish for more from a vacuum and it's certainly earned its cost a hundred times over.

“best vacuum in the history of ever”

we have had our dyson for 8 1/2 almost 9 years and never took it to the shop. we love it and it has never lost suction. the reason I am writing this review is because we had it for 9 years with no complaints and it is the best vacuum ever. we have a 11 year old lab whippet mix that sheds a lot and it has never stopped working for any reason. I never want to get rid of it. I can safely say that it truly is a "no loss of suction vacuum!" we have like 13 stairs and we can leave it on the ground floor and still make it to the top level.

“The best vacuum we've ever had!”

    ★★★★★

    written by vans2000 on 09/11/2011

I highly recommend this vacuum! We have owned the Dyson DC07 animal for about four years now and we love it! We have two long-haired cats that shed fur like nobody's business so we vacuum quite often. I am very impressed that it has lasted this long. I would rather pay more money for a product that will last longer then have to buy a new vacuum every year or two. This is ultimately better for the environment and it saves me time from having to research products. Though I do have to admit that there are a few improvements I would make. It is a little on the heavy side so trying to vacuum a carpeted staircase is not the easiest task. Trying to vacuum under the bed is also somewhat of a challenge. And lastly, there was a strange odor coming from the vacuum a few weeks ago but it has now passed. I'm not sure what the Dyson ate but it was nothing out of the ordinary. It seems to have cleared itself out now and is continuing on it's merry little way. We haven't had any issues with the Dyson (thankfully), so I can't comment on their customer service. I would like to see more products from the company. I am waiting for a Dyson air conditioner, a Dyson humidifier, and a Dyson air purifier.

I bought the cleaner approximately 2 years ago and made the purchase because i wanted a powerful and relible machine and i was lured in by the 'king of all vacuums' branding but my opinion: It's a useless pile of cr&p. Suction dies off very rapidly despite dismantling and cleaning the thing after every few times it's used. The 'No loss of suction' sticker has to be some kind of sick joke surely. The suction power has died off now to the point of this thing being fit only for landfil. One great feature is that's it's easy to take apart and fit in the dustbin!

    Dyson...you're rubbish.

Bought this to replace our Dyson DC01 a couple of years ago.It is quite heavy to use so may not suit an older person. We have a labrador who when he casts leaves hairs all over the place. The DC07 makes short work of picking up the hairs. Our house is a mix of carpets and hard wood flooring, so the hard floor setting is a must for us. The mini turbine head is brilliant for removing dust and hair from carpeted stairs. Our Dyson is used daily and we have had to have the motor & hose replaced but with a 5 year guarantee and excellent customer service you don't have to worry about repairs.

“I bought the DC07 Animal about 6 years ago and,...”

    ★☆☆☆☆

    written by gaulirmorn on 06/11/2009

I bought the DC07 Animal about 6 years ago and, considering I paid £330 for it, expected a nice, reliable vacuum. I was trading up from a 5th-hand, 25 year old, bagged Panasonic, so I was really excited about my purchase.

This hoover is probably the worst purchase I have ever made! The pet turbo attachment blocked within two weeks, and I'd only used it four times! Okay, so I had long hair back then, but the only other furball in our house was a shorthaired cat, and she only ever stayed in the hall, stairs and kitchen!

Further spotlighting the ANIMAL as an ineffective 'bag of rubbish'(pun intented) is the fact that we have wooden/slate floors through 95% of our property, so our hoover doesn't exactly have the hardest job in the world!!!

The only fitments that are still working are the crevice device and the circular brush. The animal tool died after about 4 months, no longer able to spin regardless of how much we tried to clean it. A 4th tool snapped the first time I used it to clean our (wooden) stairs, and a 5th tool broke in two the first time my husband used it to clean the car.
We contacted Dyson about all of these faults, but never received a response!

The hoover no longer workes if pushed, it only workes when using the hose, and even then the suction's not brilliant. It just about picks up bits off the floor, but doesn't work on the 5% of rug/carpet we have! It's faster for me to sweep the floor and hoover up the pile...

It's not a joy to use; it's heavy, noisy, bulky and cumbersome. It doesn't float easily behind you as you clean and falls over regularly.

The hose split in three places and has had to be tapped. When Dyson did finally respond to our complaints, they said as the hoover was over 12 months old, we'd have to pay for reconditioning. I swore I'd buy a different make before Dyson got any more of my money!

Several parts of the the main body have broken off or cracked. I noticed a few months ago that the edge at the top of the dust container has broken off, and now the handle is 1/3 cracked. As this it part of the carrying mechanism, this is most concerning, and I am sure it will only be a matter of time before this too snaps; Sod's law says it'll happen when the damn thing is being carried downstairs!

So, I'm going to buy a new vacuum before the Dyson does someone an injury.

As an interesting footnote: I went to Tunisia in 2001 and met a woman who worked on the managerial side of Dyson, and she advised me absolutely NOT to buy a Dyson! EVER!

    I wish I'd listened...

    written by on 02/11/2009

Hose is too short, cleaner is more flimsy than earlier Dyson cleaners (would not have thought THAT was possible!), the dust container is smaller than on any of the other Dyson cleaners that I have owned over the past 10 years (this is my 4th...), the brush bar defaults to ON when cleaner is turned off, it seems that the switch for the brushbar is attached, in some way, to the on/off switch, and this is very confusing when cleaning. The attached 'tools' are a joke, They are really not fit for purpose in my opinion.

It is quite light which is good for carrying the cleaner up the stairs, and it has very powerful suction.

I absolute love my Dyson Animal. Have had since they first went on sale. It gets beat up in a household with three cats, various pile of carpet, and wood floors. I have wooden stairs, so it gets carried up and down quite a bit with the hose stretched to the limit. I love that it is so easy to take the vacuum apart to clean and replace parts. I've had to replace both hoses now, but given the amount of use, I think that's perfectly acceptable. The canister gets held on with a bungie cord, as it doesn't stay "clicked" in any more, but the Dyson has lasted FAR longer than any other vacuum in our household. As long as you can keep replacing little bits and pieces here and there, I hope to have MANY more years with the Animal!

unbelievable poor - i found kitchen science had the rudeness / dreadfull customer service staff from any other internet store in the market-place. couldn't get a straight forward answer to a simple question about delivery timescale for a product that i ordered from them - a dyson animal hoover. when i asked the young lady to clarify the delivery date, she became rude and i later found out, she had cancelled my order, as well ! request a call back from one of the cs managers, never receive a call.

I am an owner of the model DC07 Animal and bought it as a replacement for an earlier model thinking that it would last me a long time and cause very little trouble. The body is robust however it is supposed to continue to pick up dirt not move it around. It should be easier to strip down and keep clean than it is.

I think the Dyson DC07 Animal is too heavy and awkward to be carried up and down stairs unless you are young and fit. Exceptionally noisy. I have had to replace upper (flexi hose) and lower hose and now need a new motor for it. I am cutting my losses and dumping it in order to buy a vacuum as advised by 'Which' costing a lot less (albeit requiring a bag).

    ★★★★★

    written by freddietheone on 27/08/2008

We had a family hand-down of a Dyson DC01, that was worn out in a few places. We spent about £25 getting all the worn bits replaced and it worked really well. Much better than the 'Henry' before it. It was messy to empty and the filters needed cleaning/replacing every month. For all that though it generally was very reliable and worked well until the fan on the motor spindle actually sheared off, jamming the motor solid. It was essentially worn-out. It had been going for about 11-12 years and had cost in total nearly £40; it owed us nothing.

The replacement DC07 was only £149.99 and clipped together in less than 1 minute. Pushing it around without it running was very easy, but with the motor on it sucks so hard to the carpets it makes it much harder to move. The dirt and fluff removed, even after the DC01 had done its stuff, was fantastic. We filled the holder twice just doing the whole house for the first time.

I find it difficult to understand why there are so many users who have scored badly on the Dyson, with Zero and 1 out of 10. The "lack of suction" would imply a blockage so why continue without checking the machine? They look complicated but are really only a cyclone vacuum with a drum for the dirt to drop into. Clearing the pipes is quite easy, should something get stuck. Blaming the machine for lack of performance when the pipes and / or filter(s) might be bunged up is unfair.

Rather than slag-off the machine, do a bit of diagnosis perhaps? Don't throw the machines out - give them to me!

I was a sceptic; I needed proof to be convinced. I became convinced with evidence see with my own eyes. The DC01 was a good start. The DC07 is much better but like all machines it needs to be tended to work at its best.

    written by DavenJo on 25/05/2008

We didn't get our Dyson DC07 Animal with all the attachments, so I tried the furniture sweeper tool from our Hoover. (It never worked well with the Hover since there was not enough suction to make it work properly). I works absolutely GREAT with the Dyson and REALLY cleans furniture and the cars wonderfully.
We are very glad we got the Dyson, it's embarassing how much dirt it pulls up from the carpet, but that's great!
I'd recommend it to anyone that feels that their vacuum is lacking in suction power, the Dyson Cyclone concept works like a charm and the easy empty makes life a lot easier. (We have three dogs that shed).

Long hair will get wrapped around the carpet brush and this does need to be removed as a routine maintenance but this is true for any vacuum with a carpet sweeper. I just unplug it and there is ample room (access) to remove the dog and human hair that gets wrapped around the brush. I'd have probably made a few things a little heavier duty but then again, it's a well thought out design and works well so I really have no major complaints at all. We Like It!

I have a dog that sheds all year round and always struggled to keep on top of the vacuuming - hoped this would help as would not normally pay so much.

It is better than my old vacuum cleaner but not enough to justify the extra cost I don't think.

The thing sounded as if it was full of marbles when I first assembled it and turned it on. Customer service was minimally helpful. Still sounds that way whenever it doesn't like the thickness of the surface it's not sucking anything off of. I hate this cleaner and feel like a dummy for having paid $500 for it. My advice, buy a Eureka for a fraction of the price and spend those hours reading instead of cleaning all the parts of your vacuum cleaner in the vain hope that it will function as advertised. What a joke. I was not surprised to read that independent tests on the Dyson showed it to be no more powerful than any other cleaner. Frankly, the one I have is far less powerful than most cheaper vacuums.
