“Very Delicious”

★★★★★

written by FranklinBenjamin on 08/06/2021

It was just what I had planned for. I think I was anticipating a more spongy feeling, despite the fact that it looks like pie crust. However, I'm guessing they're better fresh, yet they're still plum wonderful. This isn't too sweet, but it is quite delicious. It tastes like cherry and has plum and raspberry jam in it. They're incredibly filling, and one is more than plenty for breakfast or a tasty snack.

“Latest purchase horrible”

written by on 05/06/2021

Was always a favourite, but latest purchase (4th June) icing too much and too thick, means less proper quality filling and more cheap sugar.... horrible cheapenibg of product... sad. Will try M&S ones next, hope they're better.

“These tarts are not suitable for vegetarians as the...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/03/2011

These tarts are not suitable for vegetarians as the company insist on using Cochineal to dye the cherry red. This dye is made from crushed up beetles! There is really no need to do this in this day and age as other companies use alternatives such as beetroot dye. When I pointed this out to Mr Kipling, their reply was that Cochineal gives the best colour and that beetroot dye turns an orange colour "which is certainly not what you or retailers would want". What a silly thing to say. Asda do their own brand cherry bakewells which look EXACTLY the same and they are suitable for vegetarians as they do not use crushed up beetles!

Mr Kipling pride themselves on using free range eggs yet they are happy to use the outdated practice of using cochineal as a dye just because they think it gives the best colour. Some of their cake contains pork fat too. How 'natural', to have dead beetles and dead pigs in cakes!

Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells can fall apart easily when you pick it up to eat it it can leave little crumbs and can make you feel a bit sick if you eat too many. But apart from that there nice

Great cakes. nice taste.

I find them too sweet, too much icing, too much pastry. Very disappointing. Why do they call them Bakewells? I don't think they even begin to resemble a Bakewell tart.

written by R Wenner on 26/12/2007

Mr. Kipling Cherry Bakewells improved recipe with more ground almonds is excellent. General mouth texture is a delight. Eye appeal charming. An ageless classic! My 86-year old husband (born in Cheshire) and I live in the USA (Texas); He loves Mr Kipling's Cherry Bakewells dearly, and has enjoyed them since he was a boy. We seldom find the Bakewells in the US, (specialty and import stores only), but when we do I buy several packages and I ration them out to him for desserts, hiding the boxes so he can't find them in the kitchen and eat too many at one time! He's not one for sweets much, Cherry Bakewells are his only "weakness" . After a hard or dismal day, a Cherry Bakewell at tea-time or as a desert is a sure way to raise the spirits and improve one's outlook on life.

They make me realise that irrespective of anything else that's going on in the world that actually the world is still a nice place to live in providing that you have a cherry bakewell to share it with. Thank you Mr Kipling

I've been eating far too many of these things, my boss introduced me to them a little while ago, and now I'm eating sooo many. It's quite revolting, until I start putting on weight though, I will not relent! Absolutely gorgeous cakes!
