Wow! TOCA Race Driver 2 is genuinely an amazing driving game with 15 types of simulated driving. The sheer range of driving variation & vehicles available make this well worth the money. TOCA Race Driver 2 can be really frustrating at times but the game offers a learning curve for each class of car making it both addictive and challanging.
Graphically, it`s fantastic. The attention to detail throughout is great although it suffers from some drop in frame rate at certain speeds. I recommend the system link feature using two TV's, great fun to be had with friends.
Alternatively, the single player modes great, feeling very realistic & rewarding.

This is quite possibly the best driving game I`ve played to date and even outranks the rallisport championship games. Just don't expect an easy game, it`s really tough in places.

“When I first heard of TOCA Race Driver 2 I was really...”

★★★☆☆

written by RPMmini on 11/05/2004

When I first heard of TOCA Race Driver 2 I was really excited because I am totally mad on the first game and really love it. When I got Race Driver 2 I was amazed at the quality of graphics and the amount of cars on track. But after a few days playing it my excitement soon died and turned into dissapointment. Now a lot of people will disagree with me on this but I have played the first game for ages and am a really big fan.

First problem with RD2 is that the damage is very stupid your out once you crash which is OK, it makes it more realistic but should be a option that can be turned on and off. Secondly when you hit a computer car they do not get damaged even if you drive around the wrong way and hit them at full speed! Also when you hit there back end it seems to give them a turbo boost forward which don't make sense at all. The Career mode on RD2 is very easy and the story line is totally rubbish. They have removed the free race with any car option which was in the first RD.

Which means you can only race in the championships available in the same cars. The inside view of the car is a complete let down compared to the old game.

On the old game you had a fully detailed cockpit when viewing inside the car. But in RD2 you only have the outline of inside a car and everything else is just in a strange black shadow?

When you pit on this game the screen just goes black and then you're out again. The multi player is quite good but once again the annoying crash system ruins it. I may sound like I really hate this game but it just seems so rushed and is nothing on the first one. If you havent bought either game go for the first one it's 10 times better.

TOCA's back. Ultimate driving simulator is quite a label to give a game and I was sceptical over the inclusion of so many different kinds of racing. I thought that it might be a case of quantity over quality. How wrong I was! This game is a joy to play. Each car handles differently and, at first like all TOCA games you'll end up off the track a good few times. But learn the car and the track and soon you'll be flying past the opposition.
The damage that the cars receive is awesome. Get it too wrong and it's race over. But to be honest, the crashes are so well done, I don't mind that too much.
This game won't be for everyone. It can be quite hard in places but I never found it so hard that I gave up. Learn the breaking points and racing lines for each track and everything's possible. But this game does exactly what it says on the cover. SIMULATOR. If you want realism TOCA is the king of driving games.

Rpmmini's Response to sandman1975's Review

Sorry mate but I have to totally disagree, this game is quite realistic but it's not challenging at all. Read my review to find out more about what I think of RD2.
