Wildhearts, Anthem - Here We Have Part Two Of The
Wildhearts, Anthem - Here we have part two of the CD releases for the August 1997 single of Anthem. Brought out through Mushroom Records, the single managed to find its way to number 21 in the UK charts. The title track was taken from the album 'Endless Nameless' that was to be later released in October of the same year.
The tracklisting is as follows:
1. Anthem
2. White Lies
3. The Song Formally Known As?
Anthem is the first track to really sport the rough 'n' ready vocals of bassist Danny McCormack. His new 'lead singer' part is thrown in with a bass-heavy mix of distorted noise and crowd exploding vocals that you know will be a crowd pleaser. The song is not what you would expect from the Wildyboys, but their new style certainly delivers a heart pumping mix of powerful riffs and head spinning beats. Definitely well worth getting your hands on!
The first B-Side to appear on the single is a cover of the 'Jason & The Scorchers' killer track 'White Lies'. The track starts off setting a fast, punky pace with Ginger's vocals bringing a rough sound to this slightly distorted version of the track. This is one of my favourites of the B-Sides from this period of the band's music.
'The Song Formally Known As?' was predominately written by Rich Battersby. This amusing rock 'n' roll ride delivers great sing-along vocals and an awesome bedroom dancing beat. The chorus of vocals offers an anthem-style track with pure rocking riffage. Another great track from the British rockers.
