ive got a corsa 1.4 sport and the 0-60: is not 8.2sec its 10.5 sec standerd so u must have either nos or sum serious engine mods.taking over 2half secs off standerd 0-60 is very big. u can beat alot of cars in the 1.4 sport and may seem like the 0-60 time is very quick but that means its faster than the 1.6 sport gsi and not ras off the 147bhp redtop astra gsi. obviously your car cant be standerd???
metro gti may be the quickest 1.4 natrualy aspirated engine. also a few 1.3s that would have the corsa sport 1.4!! mine has around 120bhp

not really sure what you are going on about mate, i've got a gsi corsa with a few engine mods chip etc and i can only get 0-60 in just under 8.5 secs. like the other guy said lets guess it must be your first car or you have been driving a 1.0 12 valve so your car is either not standard or you talking rubbish. I know corsas or pretty much any vauxhall engine inside and out i've had 17 cars don't waste the genuine peoples time. The majority of us know what we are talking about but you obviously don't.

Your having a laugh, let me guess it's either your first car or you've just gone from a 1.1 to a 1.4 16v which either way will obviously seem faster than it is. I'd use a stopwatch next time because you won't be seeing 8.2 on it mate. I've got a 1.6 16v sport with BMC ind kit, S/S exhaust system with decat, Dbilas Flowtec inlet manifold and Superchip and the best 0-60 i've timed is 7.5 secs. What are you gunna tell us next that the 306's were all GTI-6's lol.

Recently bought a 1998 Corsa 1.6 16v Sport and I absolutely love the thing. They are quick cars; my mate gave up trying to get past me in his
Saxo VTS and that's saying something. I've fitted a Pipercross induction kit and it now sounds awesome! Am thinking of lowering it either 30mm or 40mm but am unsure if arches will start rubbing on new 17"s?

If you enjoy the handling and acceleration, don't fit 17s, unless you want all show and no go.

you can lower the corsa as much as 40mm before the arches will start rubbing the tyres, my mate had a corsa 1.2 on 16's and that was lowered 60 mm.

I had loads of problems with the Tigra. 2 grand engine problems sorted through warenty. I then got the car chipped, got kent cams, got full stainless exhaust and manifold powerboast valve uprated plugs leads, flywheel etc. Car was a lot faster, had just under 130bhp. There were two tigra 1.6 16vs in the Vauxhall sport club running 150bhp and they were a lot quicker than mine. The Tigras/Corsas 1.4 1.6 are underpowerd compared to the likes of Honda Civic 1.6 vti with 160bhp or sir 170bhp, but Vauxhalls are still good rifined quick cars. Everyone just drops the 2.0 16v redtop in which it is cheaper to do than tune a 1.4 or 1.6 ecotec but it can be done and 150+bhp can be acheived in a 1.6 ecotec 16v and have seen a 140bhp 1,4 16v. I now own a Corsa Sport 1.416v sport which I wasn't keen on as my Sri 8v seemed a lot faster when I had it. My Corsa Sport has 119bhp and is very quick.

Are you not concerned about the build quality of the ax? Safety wise it is very light but doesn't seem very strong?? Have you got rear brake disks and have you had any engine probs?
I heard Lotus had smething to do with the tigra. Can't of been the suspension as that is rubbish.

Na, no problems yet (touch wood), did you have probs with your tigra then? I needed new cam belt a while ago and had EGR valve cleaned out. I'm going to get a Flowtec inlet manifold from Regal, combined with the chip/remap it should give me up to 20 bhp more. Will do cams after that. According to people on mig-web.com these engines were tweeked by Lotus to a little less than 150bhp but these figures were the same and more than vauxhall's 1.8 and 2.0 units so they stuck a restrictive inlet manifold in the 1.6 engines to bring bhp down, hence the Dbilas Flowtec one going in in a few months...hopefully. That's what i heard anyway.....

Yeah Saxo's are a lot lighter. You have done well to acheive this performance from a 1.6 sport. I had a Tigra a few years ago and was the same ecotec engine. Had ecu remap, viper induction uprated cams full stainless exhaust from manifold and was running over 130bhp threw the wheels and that was fast. I could leave other Corsa's, XR2i's, Nova's and a few more but not the Saxo VTS. The tigra is 200kg heavier than the Corsa Sport 1.6. Top end was higher on the Tigra. I think the Corsa Sports topend on paper is 122mph, Tigra 1.6 127mph, Saxo VTS 127mph but most cars do go slightly over there listed times. Also have you had any problems with the valves sticking????

PiperX induction kit, Scorpion Cat back exhaust, Superchip and getting De cat this week. I put standard wheels back on as 17"s were slowing it down too much. We had a standing start race the other day and we stayed right next to each other, I couldn't believe it as his VTS is so much lighter than my Sport! Top end I think he would see me off. Top end of a VTS is 135mph I think.

how much bhp are you running?? a standerd corsa 1.6 sport 0-60 is 8.9sec corsa gsi 8.7sec and saxo vts 7.7 sec so you must have some good engine mods. i know top end the corsa will do about the same even with 105bhp and vts with 120bhp.

“Having owned the Vauxhall Corsa Sport for 2 years now...”

★★★★★

written by BigDunc on 08/04/2005

Having owned the Vauxhall Corsa Sport for 2 years now i'd have to say it is a very reliable car, never needing anything apart from the usual (tyres, brake pads, etc). It is comfy for its size and the overall quality of build is very good.
Small things like the standard suspension niggle at you a bit, but if you were happy to spend a few quid sorting this out I reckon it'd be well worth it.
Plenty of performace parts available out there for reasonable money and I think it would be a very tuneable wee car but have my doubts about the longevity of the ecotec engine.

I run a corsa 1.6 16v sport. It was ok when i got it but it was sloppy round the corners allthough it is really hard to unstick the back end. The car was pritty qick although it couldnt keep up with my mates Nova GSI. I lowered the car 60mm and fitted 17in wheals with improved the handeling no end although the back arches to rub. I also fitted a full stainless steel exust and re-mapped the ecu which i couldnt belive the difference. Overall no a bad motor but imporve the handeling to keep up with simial powered hot hatch's.

Hi mate. You say you lowered it 60mm? Did you need arch work for this? Do you think i could get away with dropping my 1.6 sport 30mm - 40mm without needing work done? Bearing in mind i've got 17s. Cheers.

The Vauxhall Corsa Sport is a cool funky sports car for young drivers!
Insurance and running costs are quite reasonable.

Too right mate, My mum owns a Corsa Sport 1.4 16v, since it was the Sri engine in it from previous models to reduce the insurance group, it just makes this little car hound down the by-pass. I own a R5 GTTurbo, can't really say, corsa's can beat these babies, but they are a good competitor in their own class, very reliable and fun to drive. Buy a R5 GT Turbo to compete with the bigger boyz toyz
