The Third Album By Dublin's Second Biggest Export,

The third album by Dublin's second biggest export, "War" is the start of their emotional compositions that define U2. Following on from the not so successful album "October," this album is a flawless and amazing sample of an amazing group.

"War" includes the single "Sunday Bloody Sunday," an example of Bono's unashamed sadness and anger toward the Troubles of Northern Ireland. It became a truly emotional statement during November 1987, when Bono used it to denounce supporters of the Troubles (his emotional outburst, recorded on the docu-film "Rattle And Hum" shows Bono at his most emotional).

Another emotional offering is "New Years Day" (the version on this album is the complete version). A melodic, beautiful track, and showing U2 at their best. We also have some other tracks, such as "Like A Song" and "Two Hearts Beat As One" which, despite being lesser-known to many, are again perfection.

This is probably my favourite in my collection. By 1983, the group knew where they wanted to go in the 1980's (and they surely achieved it), and the sound that defined a large part of U2's shining history is perhaps most evident in this album.
