Unquestionably one of Eltons finest and controversally accaimed albums and one that is yet again a masterpeice that highlights the strength and projection in bernies lyrics. Such was a time when bernie highlighted his imaginative and metaphorical skills in songs such as Tower of Babel, Tell me when the whistle blows and the albums only hit, someone saved my life tonight. Some however, my find this album a heavy concept to handle, as it were in the mid 70's when the album became the first to top the billboard charts strait in at No.1, Rock of the Westies followed suit...however not a simular story in the UK where it failed to knock 'The best of Stylitics' of the top spot. Did this album signal a downward trend in his writing patnership?
Certainly ranks as a genial concept masterpeice however it lacks the spirit and energy that thrills Tumbleweed Connection and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Captain Fantastic & The Brown Dirt Cowboy is Elton John's best album. You can feel the emotions from start to finish. Elton and Bernie at the top of their games. It's a shame they split not long after this albums release

Everything about this album is great. Too often you listen to an album that has a t least one turkey in its listing...this does not. Opening track: wonderful! "Someone saved my life tonight" not only has a fantastic tale to it, but boasts - possibly - the greatest keyboard riff ever. It's a shame it doesn't get the same respect as some of his more familiar albums. If you want another album that stands on that mantle of "no turkeys allowed", check out Boz Scaggs "Silk Degrees."
