I Do Not Normally Read This Type Of Book So I Was

I do not normally read this type of book so I was very surprised at how much it grabbed my attention. It is educational, funny, sad, exciting, I really enjoyed every word on every page. As I say I couldn't put it down so I read the whole book in one day.

The Guv'nor Is Another Crime Book For Walther Mitt

The Guv'nor is Another crime book for Walther Mitty types (Chopper et al)? No! Peter Gerrard manages to convey feelings and emotions surrounding a situation much more than most writers could.

He never tries to hide the fact that Lenny is a criminal and an illegal fighter, but the over-riding factor throughout is that Lenny is human.

The book concentrates mainly on the glory (obviously) but does not shy away from mistakes and wrongdoings committed by Lenny, rather it reveals the humanity behind his actions of the man feared by many (most) and the struggles he goes through to put food on the table for his family.

Although there are a few questionable beliefs expressed (bank robbery being a job and the like) you find yourself almost thinking what it would be like to be in the position he was in.

Another bad point about the book was, it was too good, too engrossing, at times i felt like i was getting into the psyche of Lenny so much I wanted to go and get into bare knuckle boxing. Well, to be honest I didnt really ever contemplate that. But do you remember the first time you ever saw Rocky? How much you wanted to box? Thats kind of how it makes you feel.
