“Good Strong Diesel”

Written on: 16/12/2014 by BestReviewerinTown (1 review written)

Owned for about 6 Months, Good strong diesel engine will pull anything, even the ugly ones! Only issue and you will find this in every single Ford Diesel the DMF, dual mass flywheel, if this starts to go will effect the clutch and the gearbox. My gearbox is sometimes hard to change gear but majority of time ok, not bad for a £300 motor. interior is strong wearing, its been puked in many times and although smells a bit rotten there no rips or tears. Keys do wear down after time, so a new… Read Full Review

“Good Car spoilt by silly faults”

Written on: 24/12/2013

I have owned this car for 8 years now and its covered 170,000 miles, of which I'm responsible for about 110K. Generally has been a very reliable car, especially as its towed our caravan all over the place with no complaints. Economical for a big car. Interior is hard wearing, with no wear on the seats at all. Heated front screen is BRILLIANT - Well done Ford! Now the downside - Has broken every coil spring at some time or other. Drop links have been changed at least 3 times, new fuel pump last… Read Full Review

Written on: 01/02/2010

These mondeo's are a very good car cheap to run and great for a family having loads of space and a very large boot. Not a lot goes wrong with them the main problems with them are as follows, Handbrake cables seize, Rear brake calipers seize, Rear subframe bush's ware, and most commom is clutch failures, the reason for this is that the duel mass flywheel is not strong enough and wares also causing the starters to fail, but this is easily rectified by having a solid flywheel fitted, on average… Read Full Review

Written on: 20/05/2008 by paullear (1 review written)

I've driven 175000 miles in my '01 tdci Ford Mondeo; it € s a great car to drive, pulls like a train out of roundabouts and handles ridiculously easily. It € s comfy for five adults and loads of luggage, it € s quite economical, but not staggeringly so. It has been cheap-ish to run; I did about the same mileage on a Mk2 1.8TD Mondeo which was REALLY cheap to run! I've had a few probs, but nothing major yet. The repairs so far are as follows: Handbrake cable - handbrake would stick on due… Read Full Review

Great car love it, sharp handling the ride is a bit hard but still somehow is very comfy even after a long dive.
Drive it correctly it will do 55 60 mpg on a run while still retaining 40 mpg around town. But being a 16v engine drive it hard and the mpg will drop to 30 ish around town.
If you want a good family car the Mondeo is a good drivers choice!… Read Full Review

Written on: 01/01/2008 by johnwty (1 review written)

I love driving this car, and with over 50mpg on a run its very cheap motoring. Yes it does go wrong, but being a Ford parts are quite cheap compare to a BMW say. Although the engine is quite nosiey compare to the tdci its still good, and it holds the speed on the motorways easy. The only thing i don't like is the clutch, its very odd and takes ages to get use to. Overall thumbs up!!!

Written on: 05/12/2007 by Burnsy (1 review written)

I bought a 2002 (52 plate) Mondeo TDDI LX 115bhp in august 2005. It had 40000 miles on the clock at this time. Since then I've done over 35,000 miles. These have been mainly commuting in and around Glasgow but have also included numerous trips into the Scottish Highlands on demanding A and B roads and a couple of holidays to the French Alps. (around 3000 miles in 2 weeks).

During this time the only major repair was the rear wheel bearing which needed replaced (200 to repair and at 60,000… Read Full Review

Written on: 03/03/2007 by darren115 (1 review written)

I have owned this car for around 3 years now and bought it with 85K on the clock and the only thing that has needed to be changed is the rear subframe bushes after a year, recently a front coil spring and top suspension bearing. It never fails to start, and never complains or struggles when the boot is full to busting, with the rear seats down it offers a massive load carrying space.

It has surprised more expensive powerful cars on several occasions.

If I was to swop it, it would be for the… Read Full Review

Maesderw's Response to 186308_simmo 3's Review

Written on: 23/08/2007

I bought my 05 registered 2.0 TDCI 115 bhp 17 months ago with 16K on the clock. It was bought as a caravan puller since it had got good reviews from various caravan magazines. The car now has 26K on the clock and a clutch which is just about to disintegrate and has had the clutch master cylinder replaced. The clutch is not covered by the warranty and is going to cost me £600 to replace. The main dealers were completely unsympathetic and reckoned that towing with this vehicle would guarantee a clutch failure. They also hinted that my driving style - 'you might be riding the clutch sir' might have contributed to the problem. Another recurring fault was that whenever I used the cigarette lighter socket to charge my phone, the fuse blew. The main dealer's solution, leave the charger in permanently since taking it out caused the socket to earth and blow the fuse! Needless to say, I will never buy another Ford and would not recommend this car to anyone.

Maesderw's Response to 186308_simmo 3's Review

Written on: 23/08/2007

I agree with this review because my experience regarding clutch problems is even worse, mine went at 26K, no sympathy at all from main dealers, clutch not covered by warranty so will cost me £600 to replace. Told by dealers that since I'd used the car to tow a caravan (about 1200 miles over 17 months), the warranty would have been invalidated anyway!

Written on: 10/11/2004 by milemuncher (1 review written)

Overall the Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDDi 115 LX 5dr is a good Family Car which hasn't actually gone wrong/broke down in 12 months hard use, it is quite comfortable but could do with even more power. Ford could improve minor items, an ignition off power socket would be usefull, also changing the main beam/flasher arangement, the cruise control with its non illuminated controls is useless at night and I dont think we need a heated front screen - auto wipers/dipping rear mirror would be better… Read Full Review

The 'Ford' batch used to be reason enough for me to simply avoid all their cars, as they always appeared to be below average and cheap. However, I have changed my mind when I bought a Focus Zetech in 2001 as this car managed to change my entire attitude about this manufacturer.

Driver:
This car most certainly impresses with its performance and outstanding road handling. It 'grows' on you very quickly and leaves you feeling very save, indeed. The ride is sporty and yet comfortable. It leaves… Read Full Review

Written on: 18/11/2003 by ndixon (1 review written)

Bought this privately from the in-laws, who now have the same model with a TDCI engine.

At 2 years old with 25,000 miles it's had no faults apart from the air-recirculation switch apparently not working. Mechanically everything is sound.

The engine is harsh and noisy, but no more so than modern VW engines. It's also surprisingly quick, considering the weight of the car.

It is prone to stalling when moving off, requiring the sort of throttle-poking clutch-slipping driving style normally… Read Full Review
