Holes Has Some Very Believable, Palpable Drama. Yo

Holes has some very believable, palpable drama. You could feel along with the characters, no matter how undeveloped they were.

I Found Holes A Good Read. It Has A Bit Of Everyth

I found Holes a good read. It has a bit of everything. It's about friendship, achievement, promises, pack social behavior, racism, coincidence, fate, love and justice. Some people learn and grow, others don't. Some have good, just endings, others have unfortunate, just endings. It's satisfying, yet has an element of sadness to it.

The language is simple, yet descriptive; almost in a Rowling kind of way. But unlike Rowling, I found myself wanting richer language, fuller descriptions. Louis Sachar pushes on with the story, to the next scene, to the end, when I want each scene to last a bit longer, when I want to lose myself a little more.

Holes offers real characters in our heroes; people who are flawed and ridiculed by others, and real life situations, including crime, punishment, racism and violence. However, the book unfortunately stoops to typical children's book fashion of making the grown ups stereotyped and more stupid than the children.

Still, it was a decent read for a grown up like me (in my twenties), and will probably be quite good for the tweens.

Louis Sachars, Holes Is A Great Childrens Book, An

Louis Sachars, Holes is a great childrens book, and my favorite childrens book to add to that as well. Holes is about...

(Synopsis): A boy named Stanley Yelnats, who is falsely accused of robbing a pair of famous baseball shoes, and has a choice between spending time in Jail, or to attend Camp Green Lake, the facility for Naughty boys, (or something like that, it's been a while since I read it).

The name Camp "Green Lake" would make it seem that the facility is located near a lake, but no, it is all desert, and the boys are forced to dig holes 5 feet deep and wide in every direction, everyday as their punishment. Later in the book, Stanley finds out that it's more then just digging holes, the warden is actually looking for a abandoned treasure chest somewhere in the desert, using her boys to dig it up, and look for it. And, then....bladdy bladdy blah.... To me the rest of the story is a little blurry and hazy, since I haven't read it in a few years, but its great anyway, which I remember most about it. Hard to put down, and mesmerizing.

Louis Sachar, Holes: In The Book Stanley Was Accus

Louis Sachar, Holes: In the book Stanley was accused of robbing shoes and as a result he was put into camp green lake, which was nearly worse than a Juvenile detention centre. Also his so called friends bullied him. If you haven't read this you haven't lived life yet. Buy this book NOW! Don't worry it has quite a happy ending but the way they were treated I think is disgraceful!

Louis Sachar, Holes Is A Bestselling Novel. W

Louis Sachar, Holes is a bestselling novel.

Why?

Don't ask me.

I found this book very dull and uninteresting. It is very well written and I can see why it grips onto some but for me....I didn't find this book at all a gripping read. The characters are a little too strange with their erratical names. But, hey, you gotta hand it to the author, writing two hundred pages or something about digging holes - that's something not many could achieve.

The book is about Stanley Yelnats. He is sent to Camp Green Lake. Don't be fooled by the name. It's a camp for bad kids. Though he was innocent the court heard his as guilty. He supposably stole Cylde Livengstone's shoes. He is not very welcome at the camp.

The book was so popular it was made into a film. The film is even worse. It did quite averagely at the box office but this is about the book.

I guess Holes is a book where you enjoy it or you don't. Though I don't despise it, it wouldn't be a book that you would find on my book shelf.

Conclusion:

Holes is a dull, boring, slow-paced, simple story that was not at all gripping. Don't get any ideas from this review though because, as I said before, Holes is one of those books. You like it or you don't. The "great" mystery is unveiled at the end. I was expecting a thrilling end to such a dull, boring book. I thought that the author would trick the reader and suddenly turn the book into a fast-paced book that makes you go "Ohh yeah!" or "Why didn't I think of that before?" Nope. Holes leaves you with a dull and dimple story.

An extra star for weaving from past to present and another extra star for having the heading of Part 3: Filling in the holes. You find out why this is witty when you read the book.

Average novel.

4/10.

Nathan.

Louis Sachar, Holes - If You Haven't Read Holes In

Louis Sachar, Holes - If you haven't read Holes in the last couple of years WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??? This bestselling novel tells the story of Stanley Yelnats, forced into Camp Green Lake after someone threw the famous Clyde Livingston's shoes in his direction. It also follows the story of one 'Zero' and his mysterious past involving Stanley, members of his family and one Madame Zeroni. The whole thing is about surviving in the vast landscape of Texas, USA, and digging character-building holes for Mr. Sir and The Warden. An amazing book that should be read by everyone.
