Having looked around for a better quote than my existing supplier I was delighted to get almost the same cover (the excess was slightly higher) for half my renewal price. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

“Best insurance company ”

★★★★★

Great value for money even as an existing customer. Been with them for many years. Always beats other quotes from other companies at renewal, never ever tried to take advantage of the fact I'm an existing customer. I had one claim 8 years ago and the claim was sorted very quickly and efficiently. Could not praise this company highly enough.

“Happy Home Care and Care Free Insurance with Policy...”

★★★★☆

written by CovermeQuick on 17/03/2024

Home care with peace of mind from Policy Expert. I return for another year of Home Contents and Buildings Insurance. Thank you especially for compassionate customer service making this arduous task less fractious. Important decisions made easier with the help of actual people to talk to and receive their expert advice. I am unhappy the insurance premium has again risen. I hope this doesn't become a luxury I cannot afford. It currently hangs in the balance. If the price continues in this upward climb I may have to go elsewhere another time. This would be a shame as I would miss the friendly helpful team at Policy Expert. I value the postal (hard copies) and the reminder emails. I like the hard copies of the Policy that are supplied with no extra hassle. However, it would be great to know before I bought the Policy true comparisons with other Companies in order to achieve value for money. It is annoying trawling through different companies making comparisons. Often impossible to compare as no two Companies use the same quote systems. Therefore it is not a like for like comparison making it difficult to choose. However, the team at Policy Expert go the extra mile ensuring the specific needs of the individual customer are covered in the policy and do their best to guide me through the minefield of Insurance.

I was sent an email with the renewal quote. As usual, didn't rush to check as we all know renewals are so very expensive... But, imagine the quote being cheaper than my searches!!? Yep. No need to search any more. Thanks Policy Expert. About time renewals were realistic and in this case, CHEAPER!! WELL DONE!!

Used a comparison website and could see from the information Policy Expert had what I was looking for at a better price than other insurance companies. Went to their website which was very easy to use. Loaded my information, instant confirmation and now my home and contents are covered. Liked - the price and insurance cover. Also easy to use website. No hidden extras. Got all the documents sent immediately.

No they have no specific cover for TV breakdown , you would need to have taken out extended warranty on your TV purchase

I claimed when I lost my very expensive, complex lens glasses and was very happy with the ease of claiming.
Report this content kmpe Written on: 27/09/2022
Easy to put in the first part of the claim but the problem thereafter is that you have to use an online portal. You never speak to a human being after that - all via an online portal which needs a code each time you message them. We had a tree hit the house - rang up and given a case number. The surveyor came out fairly quickly . We were not told that we needed to get quotes prior to the surveyor which would have helped. You have to upload the quotes online. the most annoying thing is that each time you upload a message you get an automatic reply stating that look at the FAQ on the insurers website. there are no FAQ! I raised a complaint about the auto message - then able to speak to someone! Takes about 10 days to get paid. If you can't use an online portal you are snookered!

Claimed due to a break in. Initial phone enquiry was quickly and efficiently addressed, then further activity was via the online portal, which worked fine; easy to upload required documentation, communicate via messages (promptly responded to) and check status of our claim. No problems with the claim, quickly and satisfactorily resolved. The online process is well designed and straightforward to use. Have since renewed my policy - and was gratified to find that my premium has not been inflated as a result of my claim.

Once I got used to Trinity Portal, it was relatively simple. Loss adjuster came out promptly, followed up by phone call giving pricing. A further visit ensued to check the damage and throughout everything about process was explained in language I understood. In the end I did not go through with my claim as I felt that it should be the third party's liability, but this in no way reflected the service I got.

If you haven't switched autorenewal on, (this you can find out from your account ) just let it run to the end date. Your new ins will take over by then anyway.

From my previous experience, you will receive a policy renewal email about a month before your renewal date, on there will be information how to contact them online, you can also access your policy documents via their website and I assume you can change the automatic renewal settings on your account. Hope this helps.

You could cancel your direct debit. You'll get reminders that there is an issue and your policy will be cancelled. But it would be better to call them, even if it is an absolute pain. Also check their website, as there may be an option to cancel auto-renew.

First of all, I am very sorry you feel you had a bad experience chatting on the phone. This is contrary to all my experiences with Policy Expert. I have been with them for some 5years+ now. I would urge you to give them one more chance as I feel you got an experience which was not normal. The renewal quote is always more than last year but if you speak to them they are always able to lower it to a similar price as the previous year in most occasions. I do my due diligence and do a comparison on the comparison sites and know what the market rate is for the insurance. With this information, you can negotiate the price down. If you do not do this you are effectively getting a bad deal and throwing money away. I belive the new rules mean the must give the same discounts they give to new customers. That said if you truly wish to leave you can call them up and say so, or visit your online account page, or just e-mail them. You can simply just cancel the direct debit and they will write to you saying your insurance will not be renewed unless you fix the DD issue. Again, I would urge you to call them, maybe log a complaint about your last call and give them a chance to rectify any issues you have. All the best Ashok

I would agree with the comments below - cancel online if possible or e-mail in quoting ref/policy number and inform them you do not wish to renew. I would also cancel the direct debit/auto renewal with your bank to ensure they are unable to access the funds.
Report this content wallyb789 Written on: 23/09/2022
I honestly don't know. You certainly need to inform them, preferably in writing (email or letter) but you also need a statement from them, confirming you have settled up to date and giving details of your no-claims bonus earned etc. Wally Barnett

Report this content Guzzibear Written on: 23/09/2022
Send them an email stating that you do not wish to renew your policy. If you have a Direct Debit set up cancel it with your bank and they won't be able to take the payment.
Report this content Pwarr1 Written on: 24/09/2022
As before there are various methods of contact available to you and I would be confident Policy Expert will deal with this professionally. As an extra insurance you can cancel the method of payment therefore making your policy null and void at renewal.
Report this content paul sanderson Written on: 24/09/2022
All companies do this autorenewal which is sooooo annoying. I understand that it safeguards the customer by ensuring continued cover but its a pain to cancel. Some let you do it online if you can access your policy online. Some by chat but most force you to ring them often using numbers that cost you to ring. Search the net for alternative free to call numbers.
Report this content LovelyLibrarian Written on: 27/09/2022
Best thing is to ensure you've specified that you don't want your policy to auto renew, before it gets to the renewal date. Having said that, they still rangvto remind me that my policy was due for renewal. I complained about this as it was a hassle I didn't want.

Yes, I made a claim about 3 years ago that I thought would be difficult to resolve, but the staff were really helpful and processed my claim without query. I'd lost a pair of glasses (I have a complex prescription, so they cost £650) and of course couldn't prove that they were actually missing. I've stayed with them ever since, and still find their insurance to be very competitive. Of course, my premium went up a bit the following year, but that always happens.

Yes, I have. A garden wall collapsed. Weather conditions (windspeed that night) did not meet criteria for storm damage so initially the claim was rejected. I did not accept this and argued my case. The Policy Expert team listened, responded positively, and after a couple of weeks discussion by email and phone they agreed to cover the cost of a rebuild.

Yes I have, on my home insurance policy after a break in. I'm pleased to say the claims process was extremely efficient, after the initial phone call to register the claim (which was courteously handled) I was quickly provided with a link to the claims portal where I could recieve and send messages relating to my claim and upload all documentary evidence relating to damage caused and items taken. I found this process worked really well; messages and questions I submitted were acknowledged and answered promptly. I could track the status of my claim throughout and was provided with regular updates on what was happening. Involvement of third party valuers was co-ordinated really well and the whole process was smooth and far quicker than I expected, with a satisfactory offer being received and the claim settled within a couple of weeks. Being able to submit documentation and photos via the portal undoubtedly helped with this. Given the very reasonable cost of the policy when purchased, I have to say my experience with this claim was far more positive than I initially expected.

Yes I have. The policy we purchased was very competitively priced so when we had a major fire I was a little concerned how it would work out but I need not have worried. Customer service was excellent once you got past their portal based system and when we had a major claim advisor apponted it all went smoothly. I don’t know what the total cost was but it could have been circa £100000. Much of the smaller jobs I arranged myself but the major works were handledL by the company.. I have just read back what I said about not needing to worry………it took six of the most stressful months of my life to get our house back to a good condition but I have to praise the company overall

Horrendous experience with their home emergency people a couple of years ago. No Plumbing in the toilet for the best part of a week, eventually had to call a local Plumber in who came in the following morning and fixed it in ten minutes. The following year they declined on a Gas emergency due to something in their small print. I wouldn't count on them .

Yes, I had to claim for treatment in South Africa for an infected insect bite. They made it very difficult to claim, sending claim forms by email, that I had to print, complete, scan, and email back, with all my receipts and treatment paperwork. I returned the email with 10 attachments! They even said they wanted a 3 page report from my GP to assure themselves that the treatment wasn’t for a pre-existing condition. I had to ring & say that I was only claiming £160, £110 after removal of the £50 excess. And that a GP report would probably cost more than I was claiming, and that I thought they were trying to dissuade me from claiming. After I spoke to a supervisor, they agreed to take my claim without a GP report. The claim was then paid within 7 days. But the aggro and the phone calls and all the emailing of paperwork were time consuming & annoying.

No insurance company is going to pay out without rigorous checks and necessary evidence. People over the years have made fraudulent claims and attempted to cheat the system. Hence the considerable paperwork! They are obliged to work to certain standards...... just check the small print to check your cover!

Yes. We had a small leak from the shower into the kitchen ceiling. Didn't realise it was bad until it eventually started dripping through the ceiling. We got a plumber in to sort the shower and a builder to replace the kitchen ceiling. Estimate was £250. Not worth claiming for. Shower was sorted for £100 but once ceiling was removed in kitchen: disasyer. Joist rotten and broke. Needed fungal treatment and new joists. Yikes! Cost over £1000 Claimed on the insurance. They said we didn't qualify for multiple reasons. I'm insured with John Lewis this year. Avoid Policy Expert they are cheap but not cheerful.

Yes I woke up in the middle of the night to find water coming through my bedroom ceiling - we had had heavy winds and very hard rain. Roofer came and said tiles were loose/dislodged. When I rang them to claim, they said they checked the weather and wind chart for my area for that day and the winds were not high enough so they refused to pay. I promptly cancelled my policy. They were rude and very unhelpful.

I have never made a claim but googled the number and got this: 0330 numbers - UK-wide geographic numbers Many organisations use 03 numbers as an alternative to more expensive 08 numbers. How much do calls cost? Calls cost no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02) and must be included in inclusive minutes and discount schemes in the same way. Calls from landlines are typically charged between 2p and 10p per minute; calls from mobiles typically cost between 10p and 40p per minute. Calls from landlines and mobiles are included in free call packages

Claims are handled by Trinity Claims (insurance adjuster) in Tonbridge. Contact details and claims procedure are detailed in the Policy Wording, which you can download after you've set up your policy. But I've not had to claim in practice, so can't comment on the efficiency or attitude of this claims handling company.

Not sure what you mean by PCA? Property Care Association? This is for contractors, not insurers isn't it? However, a quick look at their website shows that they are, as they are required to be in the UK, "Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)".

Hi, I have dealt with them on several occasions and found them very good to deal with. However, policy expert are only agents, they are not the insurance company, in my case I have my policy placed with the Co-Operative ins, previously I was with AXA Ins, so they actually find you the insurance company at competitive prices, hope this helps

Insurance companies in the UK can't go bust and leave consumers without protection, if they did go bust you're covered under the FSCS, the same scheme that covers your savings should your bank become insolvent. So, even if they did, you'd still be protected.

Well their claims department have a record of building up a company then flogging it off, they then resurface as trinity and start to catch claimants the best way they can. Don't worry about the inbetween man. (PE) find out who they have insured you with make sure they have accepted your cover and pray you do not need to claim. I' m sure by now you have the sense to realise that all the good sarred reviews on this site are from people who have yet to make a claim and have been prompted to the site by the sales person.

Safe as houses, BUT YOU ONLY SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH THEM.... Your insured with other companies and MY GOD I hope you do not have to make a claim, no chance. RUN A MILE, EVEN GO DIRECT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY BUT DO NOT. I REPEAT, DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY.

I noticed in their terms and condition that the property is not covered if the house is unoccupied. But it does not mention for how long. Does anyone know how long it can be unoccupied for?

Hi there, I do believe it's 30 days or more for your house to be unoccupied, it doesn't apply to me so didn't take a lot of notice but I'm sure that's what it is, I hope this helps.

I only have the old terms and conditions and it was 28 days, so 4 weeks, however, you may get it cheaper if you can guarantee that the house is never going to be unoccupied for more than 2 weeks in a row.

I had to make a claim this year due to storm damage and they were first class. We had only been with them a year so we felt bad having to make the claim but they could not have been more helpful and were fast in getting someone out to access the damage and indeed in settling the claim.

Policy Expert is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. After a theft from my property they would not settle the claim due to the items not being in view at the time. Needless to say I did not renew with them and would not recommend them. I now insure with the NFU.

I made a claim earlier in the year due to storm damage, they are the most unhelpful company I have ever encountered. They would not cover half of the claim, but covered me for Damage to my shed roof (£80 ) of which I had to pay an excess, and have had my premium increased because of the claim, so in fact I am worse off now by claiming against my policy. This has been only my second claim in about 15 years, once with a previous company, which I had clean forgotten about some years earlier, Policy expert were keen to point out this oversight on my part of not informing them and told me that it was being referred as to whether they would pay me out or not because of this. Be wary of this company

We have had two claims. One for lost/stolen bag containing Tablet and cash, the other for damaged glasses. Both claims were dealt with efficiently over the telephone. As soon as we sent receipts the first claim was settled immediately, the second took another telephone call, they apologized and settled within a week. Needless to say our renewal premium went up considerably, but still better than their competitors.

I made a claim and they settled quite quickly apart from my excess, which I had to chase them for repeatedly. The excess was due as my wall was damaged by a vehicle and the driver's insurance met the claim. My insurance was a 2 year deal, with no increase in premium for the second year providing no claims were made. Guess what happened at renewal? They tried to increase my premium significantly and said it was because I had made a claim! They seemed to conveniently forget that the driver's insurers had met the claim! After much arguing I got them to see sense, but only after giving them a bad review on this site - thank you Review Centre! They then promised me some M&S vouchers as compensation for the hassle, but they didn't arrive and they blamed M&S. It took many weeks and a number of phone calls before I eventually got the vouchers. I won't be using them again unless they offer me a very good renewal quote!

When you make a claim you will be dealt with by a specialist company called Trinity M this firm will treat you like a criminal, tell you lies about your contract, try to get you to use their pet trades person and ask for monies up front to obtain an estimate. If you do not use their trades people they deduct monies from your account to pay for the estimate they obtained. RUBBISH.RUBBISH.RUBBISH.

Eventually the service was so bad and in my opinion fraudulent that I had to forget the claim and get the work done at my expense. I am now fighting the company and have reported them to the Ombudsman, guess what, your correct, they apologies and say this is not our normal service BUT HAVE STILL NOT PAID ME OUT

Well if that's al you have to worry about I wouldn't bother. This happens quite often with all sort so deals ie:- If you refer someone to a company, they promise vouchers or cash for the both of you. I would prefer a better deal to start with rather than unfulfilled promises. I got £50 vouchers for M & S when I joined SKY, butthe deal was terrible, and I bought a mass of thick winter tights, never wore them either, as nothing else in the shop was needed or wanted.
