Summary

If you’re an iPad fan, you’ll already know that Apple has unveiled its second generation iPad.

Rumours circulating were suggesting that the iPad 2 is expected to be slimmer, lighter, have a better resolution than the first model, and have front and rear facing cameras.

The rumours were true! You can now expect two cameras for FaceTime and HD video recording. A faster Apple dual-core A5 chip. The same 10-hour battery life, and all in a thinner, lighter design.

Due to hit the shops around the 25th March, will you be queuing up to get your hands on one of these tablets? If yes, come back to Review Centre and be the first to leave a review and tell us what you think of the new iPad 2nd Generation.

“Best invention ”

★★★★★

written by juliuscampagnar on 10/12/2014

I had my IPAD for 3 years, I have been using it everyday either for internet or watching shows. it was honestly the best thing I ever bought because it is the easiest thing to use, I can open it up and do not have to wait long to go on the computer.

“i love it.”

★★★★★

written by LoonyLin on 17/04/2013

i love ipad, does every thing a pc would do, but less hassle then a pc as you can obviously carry it about, hours of battery life...cheaper software (apps) by 100's...switches on and off without rubbish sortware being force down loaded on you and preventing you from using it...office on the move and at home...mobile disco with a wireless boombox...i could go on and on and on... Apple v Microsoft...Apple wins in my world. (saved loads of money since ipad came out, not having to buy sorftware all the time and being ripped off by it)

“Good but Not Amazing”

★★★☆☆

written by TerryRs on 24/03/2013

I bought an iPad recently for £400. I think it is overpriced. Don't get me wrong, I love it and can't complain about the build.. but it doesn't even come with a cover. I had to scout eBay for one. Keyboard is hard to use aswell. But it is cool and I'm glad I got it.

“My tablet is insured!”

★★★★★

written by on 01/03/2013

I was offered insurance when I bought the tablet but I thought I'd be fine without it! Then my daughter very nearly drowned it with a glass of lemonade before it was even a week old! I really panicked as I thought I'd missed the opportunity to insure it, that was until I saw the advert for protect my bubble and I was saved! The whole process took less than 10 minutes and the price is fabulous! The insurance I was offered and the time of purchase was £15 per month and protect my bubble have insured it for £6.99 per month! (This includes an additional premium in the event of losing the tablet). Obviously I'm hoping I won't need to use the insurance but the piece of mind it gives is invaluable! Overall I'm very happy with the product and would happily recommend to my friends :) Policy no: DGI843896

“What a Great tablet ”

★★★★★

written by olivia_jones on 13/02/2013

A couple of weeks ago I bought an iPad - 2nd generation, black, with Wi-Fi and 3G - and I must admit that I am still excited about it! So far everything seems to be working just fine. I’ve managed to connect everything with my MacBook and my iPhone so that I can actually manage everything simultaneously from one I tunes account, which is extremely convenient. As I was playing around with it last night, I found this game I used to play on Atari –Montezuma’s Revenge- , and I could not believe my eyes!!! Unfortunately I wasn’t able to play the game… but found out plenty more to do. I love the vast variety of apps that exist. Apart from being able to remain updated on news (in general and in areas of specific interest) there are so many different categories. I have several apps that I nowadays use as tools for my job. I even use some applications to teach my daughter Spanish through interactive games – she just loves it! In all I believe that the iPad is just great and everybody should have one.

“Late to the party, but pleased I came...”

★★★★★

written by mattybuoy on 23/01/2013

So I was late to the ipad party and yes I do still think that they are overpriced, but with a few quid made from Christmas returns I went of smartfonestore and got a practically new ipad2. Fantastic! It's great. I pretty much haven't put it down (other than when my daughter wrestles it from my hands to play her MyLittlePony game). I've used it in bed to watch loads of catchup tv - my wife doesn't mind the ipad whereas the TV flicking makes it hard for her to sleep. On the train to read books through the Kindle App (all free so far!). On the sofa to check things out online. Yes, it's not 100% perfect. My work webmail doesn't like the finger controls (or maybe Safari??) and the parental controls are dire (especially when you have a broadband supplier like Sky that offers next to nothing to Apple users), but other than that I am very happy. Just discovered I can get a subscription to a very expensive trade magazine through the ipad for peanuts versus the delivered cost...the gift that keeps on giving! :-)

“iPad2 is a huge success”

★★★★★

written by Jabooby3000 on 21/01/2013

Excellent value for money, and endless amounts of fun. As well as being extremely helpful with uni work it also allows me the option to sit back and relax with the vast library of apps it has in store. I loved every single thing the iPad 2 has to offer 10/10 in my opinion.

“Can't be beaten”

★★★★★

written by Ema1 on 04/01/2013

After buying the ipad 2 as a chiristmas gift i wouldn't pause to recommend this product to both friends and family. The battery life is excellent and the apps are excellent. It was priced well at £329, only problem my kids won't share and I've got to buy another one!

“Very useful.”

★★★★★

written by NoromyxO on 03/01/2013

At first when the first iPad came out, I thought it would just be a waste of time and I wouldn't find much use with it compared to a desktop computer or laptop. Well however, I now wish I never said that. Because its turned out to be a very useful item, I mainly use it for photo editing on the go, watch movies when I'm traveling, read books, listen to music and I even use it for Uni work. It's as if I can now carry my life of luxuries in a bag without the extra weight. It's easy to play games with, very lightweight to carry around. The touch screen is perfect and very fluid. Operating system is great and nothing seems to go wrong. I also like how you can just delete items with an easy click, and if something isn't going right you can easily reset it. The face time is great and the photo stream thing is great too. I think the camera quality is a little poor though. But then again if I wanted to use a camera, I would get a camera. I didn't get the iPad to take pictures.

“Accidental damage to my Ipad.”

★★★★☆

written by weeanne on 07/12/2012

A heavy paper weight dropped onto my ipad and cracked the screen and damaged the casing. I phoned insurance company and was assigned a very helpful customer service officer. I emailed my receipt of purchase and replacement ( the ipad was replaced due to a technical fault months before the accidental damage. The assigned officer was very efficient in her follow up of my case and as soon as she received proof of replacement she authorised a replacement Ipad. I had the option of sending it to the company or taking into an Apple store myself. I opted to take it to the Apple store myself. Still to go as this was only authorised 10 mins ago. Very smooth process.Good job well done...

“is it better than the ipad 1”

★★★★★

written by snhtrade on 27/11/2012

Over all its a bit faster, but that's about it, i upgraded to the ipad 2 for the better camera and the retina display, with my eyes the retina gives me a head ache and the camera is really not that much better, the view point is much closer so you have to move way back to get everything, even the apple shop was confused with this zoom as standard. BUT you still cant beat an ipad, fast starts in an instant and the kids love it.

“Love my Ipad”

★★★★★

written by tnissa on 09/11/2012

I love my ipad. What else can I say? I bought the 1st generation ipad followed by the 2nd. I use it extensively for GPS purposes, while I'm driving, and for checking email. I don't like using my smart phone; too small to use while the ipad is a perfect size. I do wish the price was cheaper and the ipad was faster. I will probably move to a 3rd gen iPad this Christmas so that should help with speed. Hope the 4th gen (regular sized ipad, not mini) will come out soon!

“I Love My iPad 2”

★★★★★

written by JimMatthews63 on 08/11/2012

I skipped buying the first generation iPad because it was new technology. I already had an iPhone 4 and thought I used that enough, there would be absolutely no need to pay $600+ for another device that was between my iPhone and MacBook Pro and that there would be no way I could possibly use one enough to justify spending a lot of money for it... boy was I wrong. The iPad 2 is probably my 3rd best investment; first my MacBook Pro for work and second my iPhone. I barely use my 48" LED TV and its perfect for watching movies on Netflix, Facebook, surfing the web and emails. As far as pre-buying questions goes, I didn't really have any. It was more about the practicality of the device rather than what features does it have or not have. All I knew was I was venturing into a new world and pretty much a year later I'm still satisfied and happy I bought one. Today, the iPad is only $400. If I'd buy another one if I had 2 heads attached to my body haha.

“Great personal TV/ cinema”

★★★★☆

written by DavidGreening on 10/09/2012

I've recently bought an iPad and as usual with Apple products, I love the user-friendly interfaces, design, etc. What I hadn't appreciated was how useful it could be as a personal TV/ cinema. With two teenage kids in the house, there are the usual fights for what we watch on TV when we are all at home some evenings. I find the iPad, combined with BBC iPlayer, means I can watch what I'd like to, in any room in the house. I've also found this aspect really useful on longer train journeys and flights.

“Happy Customer!”

★★★★☆

written by RebeccaSmith on 31/08/2012

I was considering buying an I pad but was not sure whether to get the the original I pad or the I pad 2. I popped into the Apple shop in Regent Street and the guy who assisted me was more than helpful. He explained the differences between the two. I was very impressed with his patience and the time he took to explain and made sure I understood considering how big and busy the shop was. I finally settled for the I Pad 2. It was pricey but worth every penny. It does not take long to connect to the internet, a welcome change from my laptop that takes a while to connect. I even managed to get a personalised cover for it. I love my I pad 2. It is really fast, light and such fun to use. My friends are all considering getting one. I would recommend every one to have an I pad. They are brilliant!

“Gives a swing to my sixty!”

★★★★☆

written by Kumar_Chauhan on 14/08/2012

My mum who is in her sixties has always been afraid to use a computer, but we bought her an iPad for her birthday and she loves it. The Icons are big, she finds the touch screen easy to use, and the navigation intuitive. She always wanted a portable device. Some laptops she tried were too heavy or awkward to carry around, whereas she finds the iPad very easy to carry around and to set up.

“Apple - rubbish!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by neverbuyapple on 08/08/2012

I had my ipad 2 delivered yesterday after having never used apple before. The first thing I found out was that there are absolutely no instructions at all. I am using a sim-card but still can't find out how to connect. I am using my home wifi but that defeats the object of a 'mobile' device. I have logged into my emails but can't find out how to log out so no-one else in the house can use it. A company like apple should at least send a starter guide. I was told to switch it off and on to initiate the sim. I don't know how to switch it off - only how to put it to 'sleep'. I only want to use it to check emails and run my ebay business but apple want me to set up an itunes account and want my debit card details before I can do that. Why?? I don't want to buy anything. What a rip off. I wish I had never heard of apple. Please please don't ever buy apple - they are con merchants

Drkillmore's Response to neverbuyapple's Review

Quite agree I bought one for my son's 12th birthday and they wanted a credit card assigned to the iTunes account other wise it will not work. So I had to do it but had I known this up front I would have not bought it!

“Love it”

written by whybewhy on 20/07/2012

I would never have bought one of these myself because of the cost - They are pricey - but my work decided that it was a better opinion than a laptop for when I'm out and about and I must say I agree. The Ipad is so simple that a pet could probably use it. It has all the functionality of a laptop (other than a keyboard) and it springs to life in seconds (maybe saving me 10-15 minute per day not having to login to windows). All in all It couldn't be happier - and if they ever make then a bit cheaper I might even get my own one!
