“I purchased Samsung's recent launch YP-Q3 to listen to...”

★★★★★

written by evelyn2585 on 10/12/2010

I purchased Samsung's recent launch YP-Q3 to listen to music when I go out for a walk in the park.

Q3 has three strengths of 'design', 'sound quality' and 'broad file support'.

When I first saw Q3, I really liked the design. People will have different things to say about the design depending on their personal taste, but I personally like the simple design of Q3 and the striking pink color. The white plastic body and the pink aluminum frame make for a fascinating design. The product is compact, light and easily portable - a perfect match for exercise!

Not only the design, but the sound quality is also very good. The embedded Sound Alive, the new sound field technology, definitely offers a much more sophisticated and commendable sound quality. It's just my personal thought, but Samsung's recent products are receiving good evaluation on their sound field technology. I guess they are highlighting sound quality as their core strength. It might be that I am especially fond of Q3 because I like to control EQ for a more exaggerated and rich sound.

Q3 delivers a sound that has depth, yet clear and sharp. Hmmm.. it's like my ears are full with dynamic sound. In particular, rock music has very lively beat and resonating vocal. The product is also very effective in delivering high pitch. Also, the ear phone that comes with the player is a premium in-ear type headphone, not a cheap giveaway type. The product definitely delivers on Samsung's intention of optimizing for music listening.

'Drag & drop' enables the users to store music files in the player with high ease. You can also store and play videos without having to go through a separate encoding process, which is really convenient. Q3 not only supports MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAC files but also MP3HD.

Q3 also has good battery efficiency. Assuming that you listen to music 4 hours a day, the battery lasts for about 7~8 days.

Q3 is a low-end product and is good for music listening, but it also supports various other functions. Common functions such as photo, voice recording, FM Radio and texts are also possible. IT also supports multi-tasking like the smartphones these days. However, the screen is too small that it's not quite good to watch videos or read long texts.

Planning to get a mp3p mostly to listen to music? Then, I recommend Q3. After all, there are not that many products that support high quality mp3 such as FALC, MP3HD files!

“It was becoming increasingly burdensome to carry a CD...”

★★★★★

written by whitexmas on 06/12/2010

It was becoming increasingly burdensome to carry a CD player around, so I recently bought YP-Q3. There were two reasons why I insisted on CD player even though it was bulky and heavy. First, it was cumbersome to covert the music to mp3 file and the sound did not match that of CD player. How could I not be suspicious of mp3 which took up 10 times less capacity than average CD? Most of the people say that the difference is minimal, but I continued using my CP player even when my friends were moving to iPod. And I still purchase most of my music in CD format.

But my CD player broke down last month. It was quite old and fixing it would cost a lot of money so I was planning to get a new CD player when I suddenly made up my mind to give mp3 player a try. I looked for a product that offered good sound quality at good value rather than having various functions. I'm not much of an expert when it comes to electronic devices, so I visited blog sites, read reviews and even wrote on forums asking for recommendations. What surprised me was that Sony's walkman was no longer the king of music players. Until now, I had assumed that Sony topped all portable music players except for iPod. But, many reviews said that Sony was too expensive and complicated to use. So Sony was naturally excluded from my list. I repeated the process until the list was narrowed down to Samsung's YP-Q3. (I didn't even know that Samsung made mp3s before I started searching.) I liked Q3 because it can play high-quality audio files such as MP3HD, FLAC and OGG and many reviews said that the sound quality was good.

For me, I was more likely to use lossless codec files such as WAV or FLAC rather than mp3. While most of the products supported WAV or OGG, Samsung was practically the only manufacturer that supported FLAC and MP3HD files. (WAV file is too big that you cannot listen to all music in WAV file.) And Q3 was the only product I found that could play MP3HD file.

And as people has complimented at the Samsung forum, SoundAlive was really awesome! Being my first trial with a decent sound field, I really liked the depth and richness of the sound, especially the big bass. I had never used EQ function much, but the SoundAlive function of Q3 taught me a new aspect of listening to music. When I showed this to my friends, they were really surprised saying that it was if the sound was coming from outside the head.

One shortcoming is the LCD. But, nevertheless, I still think that Q3 is fabulous to enjoy music.

“I was thinking what nice pmps are now in the market...”

I was thinking what nice pmps are now in the market and accidentally came across this small beauty YP-Q3. Well, to tell you the truth I was a little bit amazed how it is sophisticated and simple in use. The most destinguished feature of this mp3 is its design, which is absolutely cool: slim body with a aluminum frame, easy navigation button and high-quality screen. I really like it!! But overall, this is a very attractive mass MP3 which is easy to manipulate, easy to use and with no burden on battery limit - it can hold the whole day! You can listen to all the music you want! many features and simplicity along with its moderate pricing will make it a bestseller, I hope! just my personal opinion! ))

“YP-Q3, recently launched by Samsung, is an MP3 player...”

★★★★★

written by shannonh on 24/11/2010

YP-Q3, recently launched by Samsung, is an MP3 player that promises much more than the previously well-received Q1 and Q2.

Q3 is very strong in music play, the most basic function of MP3 player. At the IFA 2010, where the new product was showcased, Samsung introduced an upgraded version of DNSe called Sound Alive. And Q3 also comes with Sound Alive function. While the former DNSe used genre for categorization, Sound Alive has Auto, Normal, Vocal, Music Instrument, Tweeter, Big Bass, Cafe, Concert Hall, User 1, 2 to enable the users to listen to the sound of their choice such as vocal, bass and musical instruments. The device plays the sound closest to what the user is looking for.

Q3 promises noise-free and clear sound even at maximum volume and the ear phone that comes with Q3 reproduces top-notch beat, presence and resonance. Also, its sound has depth and is not shallow. It's totally a personal choice, but for those like me who like sound with depth, you will love the sound of Q3.

Another strength of YP-Q3 is the EarCare function - which optimizes the volume to protect the user's ears. When listening to music or watching video for a long time using the ear phone, the device automatically controls the music in 3 levels based on the noise level allowed per day, minimizing ear fatigue. Ever had hurting ears because the next song plays in much higher volume? This is because media files can come in different volumes. For me, Q3 not only protects my ears, but my heart as well! : )

YP-Q3 supports various audio codec such as Xvid, MPEG4, WMV and H.264, enabling the user to watch videos without separate encoding process. It also offers basic functions to watch videos such as screen size control, skip and bookmark. However, you cannot control the subtitle sync and screen size control is not applicable to all videos. And 2.2 inch LCD isn't the perfect size to watch videos.

Other functions include photos, text, voice recording and FM radio.

Q3 is a real 'return to the basics' product fulfilling its role as a 'sound player'. I would say this is the biggest strength of Q3. In fact, what could be better for a MP3 player?
