"the Upright That Thinks Its A Cylinder Vacuum"

"The upright that thinks its a cylinder vacuum"

Fancied an upright vacuum because they are better for carpet. Bid on a few on ebay and managed to get this model for £3 plus postage. Why so cheap well it seems like Hoover vacuums aren't exactly the best vacuums in today's market. They don't seem to fetch much money on ebay. I remember in the past a Hoover was something special. They had innovative designs, good reputation for quality but now they just seem to be rebranded chinese imports of varying quality.

This model is one of Hoovers first attempts it seems at copying Dyson's technology. It has a 1900W motor and pretty good suction overall. Despite what the motor power would indicate though not in the same suction league as a Dyson. Like a Dyson though the power soon drops if the filters aren't cleaned regularly or stuff gets blocked in the tubes.

There are a few issues with this model. The dust capacity is low. So frequent trips to the bin plus filter cleaning too. Sometimes it seems like your spending more time emptying and brushing filters than actualling vacuuming. A poor design I think.

The worst issue for me is its got some sort of identity crisis. Although designed as an upright the bloody think will fall over really easily when you start using the hose. Sometimes I just carry on using it with it on its side. You've only got to tug the hose a little bit and down it tumbles. You can imagine this would be a nightmare on stairs where it would keep falling down the stairs. Its just not very stable at all.

The general construction of the vacuum and the accessories are ok but not amazing.

I overhead a salesman saying in a shop something like 'If your buying a hoover make sure you don't buy a Hoover'. Sounded funny on first hearing as it sounds completely illogical but a second later you realise what it means.

Don't get me wrong for the price I paid it was a bargain, its fit for purpose but you just know that there are a much better vacuums out there.

Also worth mentioning these hoover models have reports of failed motors. I've had no problem with mine but many have died. Not uncommon with the cheap chinese motors they use nowadays.

I would only recommend a Hoover as a cheap ebay bargain. If your paying full price look elsewhere.
