Although this is meant to be a review for the Holden Torana L34 SLR 5000 I noticed that you have no information on the VS SLR 5000. This model SLR was built in 1997 and resembles the VS Commodore. There were only 90 made in this line of car. All of the 90 cars sport a sliver bodykit and are black in colour with a green pearl. It contains all electrics and a 307 Chevy motor.

The 308 engine was first raced in the Holden Torana. Many things were learned from this experience that made the A9X and the Commodore a much better race car. The diff and box were weak under race conditions but treated well will provide adequate service. A stronger box is easy to find nowadays and can be bolted in with some mods. The diff from an A9X can be fitted however the floorpan from an A9X or UC will be required, or you could use a F%#* 9". The 308 is lighter than the 307 Chev and delivers most of its torque at lower revs, making it more suitable for street duty. If you want to rev it, Chev it! The body is susceptible to rust in all the usual places, doors, windscreens and boot. As genuine SL/R 5000 change hands rarely, creating a replica would provide the same thrill at a fraction of the price.

The Holden Torana L34 SLR 5000 is an awesome car. the 308 has a lot more potential that i realised. It's a shame to see people taking them out and replacing them with 307 and 350 chevs etc. I don't know why they do this? People say they don't handle very well but with a few suspension changes mine handles beautifully. I recommend the Pedders sports ryder suspension as a worthwhile investment.
