“Do not recommend swimming lessons Birmingham Broadway...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/05/2023

Do not use Broadway plaza swimming lessons. No customer service and instructor cancelled the swimming lesson and rearranged the lesson and then did not turn up. Poor customer service and no cummunication. Swimming instructor is incompetent and unprofessional. I signed up my child and local leisure centre and happy with the lesson. I am still owed money for last swimming lesson and no response from instructor. I have made formal complaint to head office.

“Just not worth the money at all”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DamianMacKinnon on 08/04/2022

Dirty, in need of a refurb, no guest passes, too small, unfriendly staff, no enough variety of equipment and much too expensive. There are much better gyms out there for a fraction of the price. Even Pure/The Gym is so much better for about a third of the cost!!

“Spin classes”

★★☆☆☆

written by RogerFitch on 25/01/2019

I predominantly use the gym for spin classes. Getting onto a class is a whole new experience. You have to be ready and waiting at 7am to book for the following week. At 7.05 you're on the wait list. To be fair, spaces do become available from the waiting list but in my experience far too late for me then to actually attend. My other gripe is the state of the bikes. They are shocking. I appreciate they get a lot of use but they actually have to be maintained. And not just annually!! I have complained but to be honest, the staff aren't remotely interested in complaints. And I would really appreciate the person who picked up my Calvin Klein hooded top, handing it in to the desk. If I catch you wearing it you're toast.

“not impressed”

★★☆☆☆

written by nessie15 on 23/07/2017

went for a free trial today with the intention of maybe joining this gym as it is local to where I live. Was not impressed. For the price they are charging £59 or £69 a month I would expect clean well maintained equipment and instructors in the gym for health and safety reasons. I have been to my local council gyms and they are far better run, with the equipment regularly maintained, instructors on hand regular maintenance of gym equipment and a wide variety of classes from well trained instructors. It was a free trial, but after a minimum health questionnaire filled in at reception, with the receptionist,(no instructor), I was then waved on my merry way into the gym with no explanation of how the equipment worked, etc. Luckily, I am a former gym instructor/personal trainer so was fine, but I witnessed so many people with bad technique lifting weights and no instructor to help. My advice, stick to your local council gyms

“Don't attempt to use "free trial" system”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Colemankd367 on 16/07/2017

As a member, I had a very embarrassing situation where a colleague was refused entry on the "free trial" programme. The staff were officious and unhelpful. Do not expect this from my expensive membership.

“Dont Join!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 193White on 07/07/2017

Nuffield Health Surbiton. The changing room floors in both the male and female sections are always dirty. Both kids picked up verruca's!! Yuck. The toilets don't get cleaned regularly it seems as the cubicules in the mens were disgusting and bowls blocked and hadn't been cleaned in the time that I took the kids for a swim, then went to the gym and have a shower! Not good enough for an expensive monthly membership fee. The gym is old fashioned and classes get booked up so no spaces. All in all id avoid joining this place. We had a family membership which we have cancelled. We wont be going back.

“Class booking system errors/problems”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jesse472 on 23/05/2017

It's possible to book 2 classes for same time period. It's possible to book the same class twice. Off peak members can book peak time only classes using the system. Classes are frequently full on the dot of 7am, just as the places become available on the system. How is this possible? Have yet to attend a class when everyone booked in/on the list actually attends. Emails received 3 and 7 minutes before a class starts (as examples) informing of a place in a class. Has this system even been tested? Programmers, sort it out! Members are becoming exasperated. Management ineffectual, disinterested. * member at Croydon for 15+ years, since it opened as 'Greens'. These are just some of the errors on/problems with the system. Management ineffectual, disinterested in the views of members.

“Going downhill - Aylesbury ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Vaughnsw372 on 17/05/2017

Dear All, I would not recommend this gym for the following reasons: 1. Price - this is the most expensive gym in Aylesbury at £55 per month. There are several cheaper and better gyms in Aylesbury now. I will not be renewing my membership in November. I will be going to Pegasus gym instead. You do not get what you pay for. The gym is not exclusive or high class, it is just expensive. 2. Availability - the biggest problem with this gym is that it is hell bent on recruiting new members whether or not there is space or the facilities for them. The gym floor is crowded and getting a space in a class is extremely difficult. In addition to the surge in new members this gym offers free passes with no limit. This means actual paying members are constantly subsidising non paying people to use the facilities. There is a very simple solution to this problem but the management do not seem interested with the actual long standing members concerns and frustrations. 3. The pool- the pool is 3 lanes and 9 times out of 10 there will be 4 plus adults squashed into one lane. This is because the pool has too many private swimming lessons, mum and baby groups, swim fit challenges and each adult is allowed to bring 2 children each for free! All of those activities mean lanes are closed off. Add the scheduled aqua classes which require 2 lanes and it is not exactly a relaxing experience using the pool. Surely this is going against health and safety. 4. Staff- this is strange subject because one or two of the staff are lovely and the rest are just not. They make it very clear that they would rather be some where else doing anything else. They come in to hang out and ignore members. The whole of the management are not interested in what the members have to say and if you get any response to a complaint or even an enquiry it will be evasive, vague and like they are deliberately avoiding addressing what you have said. The cleaners are forever rushing members that's if they are not on their phones ignoring the fact they are actually at work. 5. The canteen- this facility seems to be where all the membership money goes. The gym have a 'chef' 'preparing' baguettes and wraps that are frankly too expensive, not that nice and not to mention they are very basic recipes that don't require a 'chef' to 'prepare' them. Previously a member of the reception team would make you a coffee or get you a protein bar if you asked (there was never that much demand for food and drink) but now Nuffield Aylesbury are determined to force this cafe/ bar on to everyone whether they like it or not. It is a waste of membership fees and should go back to how it was. 5. Lack of doors on the men's showers - this is something an earlier review picked up on. Yes it is true that there are no doors on the men's showers. You will be showering in front of coalleagues, old school friends and sometimes the Vicar because all the men are forced to shower in full view of each other. No privacy or dignity for your £55 a month. It is a horribly degrading experience. I have burn scars on my arms and chest and it is hard enough for me I can't imagine what it is like for any man who is even more self conscious or sensitive. I have mentioned to the management that it a form of discrimination providing doors on the ladies showers and the disabled showers but not the men's showers. I was as told by the manager that she can't comment because she is a female!! I noted the response from the person I dealt with at Nuffield head office to the earlier review and I too have the same question as the previous reviewer. What factilities are Nuffield making space for by not putting doors up on the men's showers? I agree with the previous reviewer that only a door is required in that space. As mentioned above I will not be renewing my membership and neither will my wife and another couple we know as we will be going to Pegasus gym in November. I think Nuffield Aylesbury will start to see it's members go elsewhere because it really doesn't care about addressing its members concerns as it simply cares about meeting it's monetary targets. Thank you.

“Too many members for the classes on offer”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Parisx349 on 05/05/2017

I have been a member at Nuffield for a number of years and up until the new booking system would have recommended them. In fact, it's not the booking system which is the real problem, it is that there are too many members and not enough classes. Now that there is a booking system it seems to encourage members to book as many classes as they can, and attend them or cancel at the last minute. The Management of the (Harrogate Gym) acknowledge that there is a problem in January and February because existing members start attending more regularly. So, it is even worse then. It is really annoying to see new members still being taken on, whilst the situation is so bad. In the afternoons there are no classes. The membership includes free classes - but you can't get onto the classes so it DOES NOT include free classes. Do not join up! You are being deluded if you think you can regularly get into a class.

“Situation worse since new booking system”

★★☆☆☆

written by ddChase163 on 29/01/2017

People are block booking classes and then failing to turn up. Surely it has to be on a first come first served basis as this new system will just wind regulars up and if they are unable to access classes there is no point in them being members so will vote with their feet!

“Nuffield Health Stockley park”

★★★☆☆

written by Crabtree1971 on 29/01/2017

Stockley Park Virgin active gym , was never the best maintained of places. The Spa was rarely cleaned properly & although most of the staff were friendly , I got the feeling Virgin didnt treat either their customers or staff with much respect. However due to recent changes , Nuffield Health has taken over the running of the Gym.Its a new sign , new colour on the walls , but little if anything has changed . And on top of this nobody really seems to care much at the upper level of management ,especially when it comes to the customers views .Here are some issues which i felt needed addressing , but despite being told they will be dealt with , nothing has changed .A great many new users of the club are using the spa dressed in shorts and pants .The very same pants they have just trained in , in the gym Nice eh ! Ive even seen guys dressed only in white boxer shorts , strolling round the spa area as well as the pool .The boxer shorts ended up see through . Not one word was said to the customers regarding , health , safety and hygiene of wearing scuzzy underwear . Just recently ive noticed several members using phones around the spa area , and yesterday a lady was actually using a ohone in the sauna itself . Surely , seeing as its a private club , members deserve some privacy from a phone in an area of the club they are relaxing in . .This ia place where a phone , which is very capable of taking an unwanted image , should not be taken . And im pretty sure a phone being used in a sauna has the potential to overheat and cause injury . The club has a great deal going for it , but this lax attitude to listening to as well as acting upon customers concerns and complaints really lets this club down .As of right now , unless major shifts in attitude come into play , I will not recommend this club or Nuffield Health to anyone i know .

“No help.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sawyergo243 on 12/01/2017

On my first visit an assistant showed me how to use three items of equipment but that was it! No further help or support was given. No further training was given so I soon got bored and stopped going. Very disappointed as it is not cheap, not recommended.

“Worst gym ever!! Not recommended!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LaneMarsh on 09/01/2017

I would like to let everyone know about the poor service I received in Nuffield Health in Brondesbury, NW2 5JY. I have cancelled my membership under 10 days, that was six months ago. In their policy they state that if you cancel under 10 days, no more future payments will be taken. Unfortunately they charged me for another month - £59. I have called them at least 3 times a week for the last six months, but usually the manager is never available. They promise to call back, which they did only once in all this time, and they also asked me to show my bank statement, because they said they paid the money back. When they finally saw with their own eyes that the money still hasn't been returned, they said they’ll sort it out within 10 working days. Unfortunately it has been 4 weeks since then, and I called up again, and the manager is not available AGAIN!! Unbelievable!!! Worst customer service ever!

“Continued to take money out after membership”

Really awful customer service, and always rude on the phone. you don't get a response til a minimum of 3 working days and that's if you're lucky. Have continued to take money out of my account since my membership has finished. Not value for money whatsoever.

“Nuffield Health Islington”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 09/12/2016

My local Virgin Active gym at Essex Road has been sold to Nuffield Health on the 1st of August 2016. From that point things only got worse. Nuffield Health decreased the amount of classes and the duration of each class, somehow the quality of the classes dropped too. There is no supervision at the pool anymore, so if you are in trouble you are supposed to press the trouble button, which is hardly reachable if the person is having a problem at the pool itself. We used to have a very nice lounge room with Virgin Active with convenient computers and very good full bean coffee done with a professional coffee machine. The computers have been replaced with tiny tablets and the coffee machine installed is the cheapest and the worst option you can possibly imagine - it is a frozen instant coffee with milk powder. On the plus side for Nuffield, coffee consumption should fall further reducing Nuffield's costs. In spite of obvious reduction of costs of the management on this gym, the membership cost with Nuffield Health somehow is higher than with Virgin Active. I certainly do not recommend Nuffield Health to anyone and handed my membership cancellation request a week ago.

“The towel restriction and what's wrong with Nuffield...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Concidius on 11/10/2016

Was in the Farnborough Virgin active which has been taken over by Nuffield; the change makes little difference to me; I go there; lift weights, run 5k on a treadmill, stretch and then swim a 10 lengths; don't do classes, don't need a personal trainer. So with a joint membership it's overpriced considering what I get from it; but close to home and I don't enjoy running outside in winter. It took weeks to get the new Nuffield team to sign up for the towels service; but as they tried to figure it out I was given two on each visit; so no problem (as I have done the same at many gyms in the past). Then this week I'm told I'm only allowed one for my £10 payment; no communication on this.. To be honest with the wet dirty changing room floors (I train late in evening) you need the pool towel to protect your feet. My partner has not been happy with the crowds there and the cleanliness so when I told her how this had made me fed up we agreed to leave this month (I only use the month renewal, never sign a 12 month contract with a gym); so put in my notice the same day with a complaint card; had no response from the gym on either of these; back there today; early for a change and found the pool totally used for swimming classes and kids time, despite being told when I joined there are always swimming lanes. Well as said I am going so they lose a joint membership and towel payment; hope saving washing a few towels will make up for that lose; just get the impression the place which once was quite a smart Holmes Place will be the same as going to the local council gym.. Meantime there are always options..

Nuffield_Health's Response to Concidius's Review

Written on: 26/10/2016

Dear Member,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry that you have not been satisfied with your membership and have felt the need to cancel. Unfortunately the Farnborough club opted not to offer a complimentary towel as part of the membership package and charge £1 per towel or as you have mentioned a surcharge to the membership price for use of 1 towel per visit every month.

Upon taking over the Virgin Active clubs we collated member feedback to prioritise where improvements needed to be made in each gym. These will be implemented in the coming weeks and will hopefully bring the club back up to the standards our members expect from our gyms.

Again, thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback and I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,
Sam

“Appalling customer care”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Porterfield366 on 12/09/2016

I cancelled my gym membership with Nuffield Health six months ago and recently checked my bank statements - I was amazed to see the money has still been drawn from my account. When I contacted Nuffield to address this, they denied ever having received notice from me and it was my fault for not writing to them by recorded delivery. No chance of any recompense. Even having told Nuffield all this they still want a further month's membership money from me. They are quick enough to contact you when they want money but don't contact you to ensure you're still healthy or even alive when an account isn't used for over 6 months. There is no personal interaction when dealing with this company its all call centre with no level of consideration of circumstances. My advice is not to join this gym, but if you do, don't expect any level of customer service. I would expect that Nuffield would have a policy which would check the health and well being of their customers if they didn't attend for a period of three months - of course this should be by recorded delivery! Nuffield's customer care ethic is appalling.

“Worse Gym ever and worse management as well ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KenyonJackson1973 on 25/07/2016

1- I had a 3 months contract which suppose to end if I don't renew it ( As everywhere else in the world) yet it was spontaneous renewal. 2- I would expect your employee to explain this condition for me when I registered because it is considered as the most important info for any participant especially if I am not an English native speaker. 3- Even when I read the conditions which written in the contact in a very small font ,, I didn't know that what is meant - So hard to understand them by my own 4- I asked the employer I am the first one with this problem and she said NO Not the first one ... So many already faced this problem and in future many will face it as well ,, Don't you think proper explanation is needed for this condition? 5- I would expect at least an email from Nuffield notifying me that my contact has been renewed (So I will not pay without even using the facility) - this is the least thing you could do. 6- I came 2 days ago to cancel the membership yet the employer said I cant do this - I need to give a notice of one calender month - I think this is very unfair when I registered you did not ask me to wait until the next calender month but accepted me but when I leave I have to wait for a one calendar month. what justification for this !! 7- The response I got from them was even worse 8- Over priced gym
