“I am a keen runner. I have always run for health and...”

I am a keen runner. I have always run for health and fitness, sometimes seriously, other times just as a little bit of cardio while doing weight lifting. For the last year or so, I have been clocking up quite a few miles, running average of 8k 3 times a week before work. This I feel entitled me to spend more than usual on some running shoes. I always buy reasonable runners, but due to the distance have been doing and the fact I am doing competitive and sponsored runs, I felt a top of the range pair were appropriate.

I researched running shops around my area, and found 'Up and Running' based in Aylesbury. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, and were happy to spend a great deal of time assisting me find the right pair.

I went through about 12 different shoes, trying them on, running on the treadmill, running with one of each to compare, and then finally deciding on the best pair.

The Brooks performed superbly against the likes of Nike, Asics and Mizuno. They are firm in the right places to support the contours of the foot without causing any aches or rubbing. I have Over pronation when running, and being a stability shoe, these assist by having a built up supportive inner heel.

They have a breathable body which is really noticeable when running outdoors, they also have a segmented crash pad in the heel that cushions and helps stability.

They also have laces made from recycled materials so you get green points for buying them :)

All in all, I made the right choice, and although the price is high (£80-£90) they are a great shoe that has increased my enjoyment of running no end, I ran the London 10k in them in July 2010 and for the first time I didn't have any issues with foot aches/pains or blisters... very happy :)
